Refreshing to have a professional runner giving advice that isn't overly focused on long slow running. As most runners know, your mind will give up before your legs, and banking those uncomfortable, faster than race pace, miles, is a massive mental aid come race day.

Thanks for your support. You have to train fast to race fast. Easy running is important too but you have to train hard to match up with the best or to earn a new personal best.

Great advice, so important and thank you for the post! 2:19 is incredibly impressive so kudos to you on that achievement! Training for my first Marathon (Cleveland May 21st, 2023). Aiming for sub 3, gave myself a 20 week training block utilizing the BAA Level 4 training plan as a guideline but adding some mileage to the easy days to reach 65 miles a week! Will be my first real training block as I ran my first half marathon last fall at 1:29 with a lackluster 12 week training program maxing at 20 miles a week (hadn’t done any research into speed work, proper mileage, hr zone training, etc).
@rundreamachieve

Thanks for your support Sean. Nice work having dropped that 1:29 off of a 20 mile a week plan, not enough volume and am sure specific work but that is a great effort by you! Sub 3 is definitely in your capability. Keep me updated

I am running the Baystate Marathon in Lowell, MA in October, I am training to break 3 hours, this was the perfect video for me, thank you man! Recovery periods are more important than the runs in my opinion. I use 2 rollers every day before and after my runs along with stretching and it helps big time! Also refueling electrolytes and sugars is important!

Enough volume thats true. And a frtnightly or 3wkly varied pace/hard longrun. Variety of intensities and i think a 24wk build up with a large basephase really helps. Building up from 3x1200 to 8 x 1200 @ critical velocity is a good addition. Cant rush a good thing hey...sub 3 is special!

I just ran a 2:57 marathon on an average of about 50km a week. I've only been running for about 12 months so I have no comparisons to older tech, but I feel as though the new 'supershoes' have significantly reduced times. Would you agree? Enjoying your videos btw, you have a lot of knowledge!

Don't discredit yourself. You dropped two highly competitive times that more than likely hundreds of thousands of people are trying their best to attain. VERY well done and you will get to sub 3. If you can run a 3:30 on the treadmill you have it in you to hold 6:52mi/4:16 kilo pace outdoors on the right course i.e. Berlin/Valencia/Rotterdam

Great video. I high jumped Div. 1 in college and started hiking/trail running about a year ago. Running a 50k in December and then will begin marathon training early January for a race end on May 2023. My mileage will be around 40-50 miles per week come January. Curious to see if you have a plan for me or what you suggest

Hey Alex. What time are you aiming for? I will check to see what the issue is on my end. Select 50K from the drop down menu on rundreamachieve.com/shop/, then "16 weeks" then choose your goal time from the options and it should go through. Let me know if you have any issues further. @@rundreamachieve Oh, I just realized I didn’t specify. I have a plan that I’ve been on for a couple months now for my 50K. I’m looking for a marathon plan from you to start in early January. I noticed that a lot of beginner marathon plans out there are 20-30 miles per week tops and I was thinking since my weekly mileage will be nearly double that, maybe an intermediate marathon plan may be more suitable.

@@alexm1841 No problem Alex. Yeah, my mileage in the plans are far higher around 60-80 miles a week. A longer build up is always better than a short one. Hey how are you coach? I just ran 3:19’10 in Chicago last year in my first marathon (after 2 years of training) and last March 2023 I just ran 1:31’20 as a PB in HM. That being said, I am running the Berlin Marathon this Sep 2023, and I am currently training well and healthy. Based on that and if I continue to be healthy do you think I can run that marathon around 3:05-3:10? I appreciate the time to read my message.

Doing well Joaq and hope the same for you. Congrats dropping that 3:19:10 and 1:31:20. VERY well done! Yes, of course, a sub 3:05-3:10 is DEFINITELY in your capability at Berlin. Run smart in that first half, no big moves until you pass 32km. Keep me updated. I know you are going to do it.

Thank you for the content! I'm M32 training for sub3 in NYC this year (first Marathon) and following your advice I started doing some faster long runs! This weekend I did a 22 mile run with ~12 miles at 6m45s pace. Do you think that's a good indicator of sub 3 fitness or not so much? I did run a 18m10s 5km ~1month ago, but not sure how much that translates Thanks!
@rundreamachieve
@rundreamachieve 2 года назад
A sub 3 is equivalent to a 18:49 5K so your 18:10 is looking good. of course, major difference between a 5K and a marathon but you being able to do 12 miles at 6:45 mile pace shows immense potential and you ARE on your way to that 2:59.59. Keep me posted and very well done so far.

The longest plans I have on rundreamachieve.com are 6 months Raj you can find at rundreamachieve.com/shop/?fwp_run_type=marathon&fwp_training_time=24-weeks but do online coaching you can find at courses.rundreamachieve.com/membership as well. So, we could work together for a full year if you wish to. Awesome job you have done thus far and I know you can get to sub 3:30 by the end of the year and to sub 3 in 24 months. It is totally possible. Keep me updated.

Depends on person for sure. Most people I know run too much and are always fatigued. I ran well off 120-150 a week, but pr'd on 75-85 a week. Could probably do it on 30-40 miles a week but it would be rugged.
