Lionel Messi had one goal and FIVE assists in Inter Miami's 6-2 win over the New York Red Bulls. He's on an historic pace to start the season. Can he rewrite the MLS record books?
With performances like yesterday, I can definitely see a few routings putting him at least in second assister. But the stats don't measure the quality of these assist. Messi already won that. The balls that he is putting through are just unprecedented at this frequency. Every other assist would have been assist of the year material.
Normally Inter Miami would be the safest of bets... but it isn't. They're 2 teams in one. One when Messi's available and a very different one when he's not. And even with Messi, their defense is extremely weak. They concede goals in almost every match. Their keeper Callender has some great days, and some other days he'll make a critical mistake that will result in a goal. I've never seen a more unbalanced team. Can their scoring power alone be enough to win MLS? I guess we'll see! Good video 👍
Messi scored more than 90 goals in a calendar year in Europe. He's the only player to ever achieve that. He is also the second highest assiter in the history of football behind puskas. He can, and most likely will, break vela's records.
It’s important to take in consideration that Messi is leaving for Copa America in a couple of months and will be absent for another month so that’s a handicap for his club.
If mls is considering pre (secondary) assists as well, then there is hardly a doubt that messi will break that record, even if he plays 20 games. Only catch is that lot of his goals are pre assisted by himself, and that won't count as an assist.
Though all 5 of last games assusts messi were primary, the lasr 4 is what i would call aa proper assists (and messi is really good in that). Out of those, the second one is what i will call as Messi-class (to be fair, tony kroos had one of those in champions league semifinal).
@@sld1776 The climate in the US is not conductive for a “typical” schedule and the MLS simply cannot compete with the NFL and NBA, nor college football. We are not Europe.
Maimi cannot continue conceding at the rate they're doing. It's crazy to think about. They've conceded as many goals as the last placed team. That's so bad. If they didn't win the league, it's bcoz of that. The defense cannot be allowing goals like that. They're horrible.
Yes , he has won many things over the years , but i think this guy's only ambition and dream , was to play football ..( the trophies were just something extra ) ... The only trophy that he was passionate about , was the world cup , because the whole of Argentina had saw him as the one who would take the batton from the great Diego Armando Maradonna ... In fact , Diego himself said so ... Other than that , Messi is very much simmilar to Ronaldinhio from Brazil ... They just love to play the round ball ...They dont care for how long they can do it , as long as they still can play , they will do so ... My geuss is that Messi will play even until he is 40 years of age
So messi is 22 g+a now (mls standard) but in less games than vela when he was at 22 g+a. And he just at 8 games. If he manage to perform the same the next 8 games he would already close to reach vela's. Let's say he played 12 more games. I bet he could get that number. With just 20 games, 50 g+a is something crazy at 36 y.o even at mls. Ronaldo does that with more more games and more penalties.
Messi is out-of-this-world GOAT. And he is showing that everytime he plays either in the past or now in MLS. While I don't doubt that -- the statistics being compiled will always have an asterisk for me. In a league with strict restrictions on player acquisition and salary Messi is on a team to which those restrictions seemingly do not apply. No one, no member of the media, is insisting that MLS/InterMiami address the absolutely implausible proposition that Alba accepted a 90% pay cut. Has anyone insisted that InterMiami produce tax documents to support this? Yesterday Miami adds ANOTHER DP quality player with this guy from Brasil. No one reports on exactly how, and asks hard questions for corroboration, on how he fits into the restrictions with a team that already has at least 5 DP level players. If it is true that professional athletes will accept massive salary reductions just to play with Messi, that incredible assertion requires support before it can be accepted as real. Which person reading this would accept making FAR LESS money just to work/play with any particular person? Who can really say they would? Haters will hate on this comment. But we all know it is true.
Since you're so worried about.... -How much money another man makes -What they decide to do with their life. Apparently, you don't have Google. So I'll help you. Here's how much they've made in they're career (before endorsements and taxes): Jordi Alba has earned over $124, 000,000 in his career. Luis Suarez over $195,000,000 Sergio Busquetz $182,000,000 💰💰💰💰💰 That's how they can take that pay cut to play with one of their closets friends and the 🐐 Google is your friend
