Love this style of running video. Your content is very unique and entertaining. I’ve been binge watching. Surprised you don’t have a lot more subs. Keep it up, great running and great content, love the sarcasm and name calling of hills 😂
"It's getting as hard as it's ever been in any run" - definitely my experience doing the Brighton Marathon this Sunday. But amazing day with amazing crowds and great to relive the memories through your video.
Great commentary! We basically had the same (brutal) run. My second attempt at sub 3 also. I went out at 6:45s (managed to stick to my plan for 0 miles) and paid for it dearly from about mile 6. Progressively slowed down / cramped / nearly vommed. Got in just ahead of you with a P.B at 3:10:04. Four seconds off Boston qualifying, oh well. Thanks for filming it, I was in so much pain early on that I couldn't really remember much, but this made it come flooding back :)
Love your work J Mills. A great effort in tough conditions, you stayed strong till the end. Saw you between 17-18 miles just past the pier, but didn't realise till you'd passed.
This video is a great reminder of the day. Thank you. It's crazy, like you, i tried to start easy and hold pace but got progressively slower as the hills and wind took hold. We stlll overtook a lot of places. I doubt many were able to negative split. Very fast finish at 5min mile pace.
I was in your posse of friends at 9 miles in the Hackney shirt, unfortunately around 17 miles my ankle started to give out and I had to drop some pace to make it to the finish line, ended up with a 3:16 and sunburned calves. Was a tough day out!
you should come do preston park parkrun. not only is it a good 5 with little elevation and good wide paths, but if you start a lil bit back you get to see the mexican wave and shouting as people go through bollards, it makes me chuckle everytime is see/do it makes it worth it to start further back the overtake later
Great run! Watching your videos has given me more confidence in my running to finish a park run quicker and gradually getting quicker for it (by no means a marathon or being fast)
Well done and thanks for another entertaining video. 3h 11m is a fab time. A lot can happen during a marathon! I know this has been said elsewhere, but please use metric! Imperial measurements need to die.
Really enjoyed the video. Was looking for you overtaking me but you started further up than me I think so didn't spot myself haha. I was great until 28k and everything started to go wrong, I guess being injurer missing my last long run and only getting a easy 5k and 6k in during 3 week taper took its toll... Was on for 3:20 and felt great til my calf was cramping and had to walk a lot...3h48 first marathon though with a strong 28k ill take that. Next time 3h20 is on! Manchester 2025...i think.
I also tried to run this marathon sub 3 using a negative split... unfortunately my pacing was way off, ran the first half in 1:28 and finished in 3:20 LOL. Oh well, at least there's next year. Loved the race though.
Please stick to modern measurements and use km for on screen pace. So much easier for calculations and mile pacing just makes working anything out more complicated. Apart from that loved the video
He usually does do km pace, check out all the other vids - guessing he switched to miles due to a marathon being in miles, and using mile splits. Plus almost all Americans and about half of brits use mile pace, and *they* then need to calculate back. I'm a stud and use both.
I still work in miles for pace in running. I use metric for everything other than running. 6.25 for a sub 20 5k, and sub 40 10k, 6.55 for a 90 mins half. No idea what those paces are in KM
As an American I appreciate it, lol! Yeah, the metric system makes way more sense, but I always have to do the calculation in my head or a calc for comparison to what I know.
Cracking effort J Mills - I think your approach was very sensible… and what an amazing finish! I was out spectating on the course, and that was not a day for PBs! Sorry I missed you - managed to leave my phone at home and the tracker wouldn’t work on my partner’s phone, so we were completely in the dark about how everyone was getting on 🫠 So many questions… what electrolyte tablets were you using? (Hoping mine don’t become dust). What was your nutrition plan? How did you know when your camera died/swap halfway through? Already on your cap? I think that will do 😅
I was using SIS tablets I was having one gel every 25mins (27grams of carbs) Camera makes a large beeping noise when it dies! Hope that answers everything!
Entertaining video. Strong finish! I was there. (Burgundy vest / coral/white kicks) coming past on your bright at 2:24 - spot -on overly keen start! I was shooting for sub 3 also - and my plan buggered off after getting overly excited that sub 2:55 and GFA and went out way hard... 20 minute 5k. 40 minute 10. 1:26 half. 30km onward 7 cramping fits forcing walking - got round in 03:05:10
@CrownMyRun I thought that's what you said in the commentary. I'm thinking of keeping mine in a small tin wrapped in tissue to reduce movement of the tablets as I don't think SIS gels have electrolytes in them?
