I installed my system in 2016. I knew I would have an EV at sometime in the future but did not know which one. I just guessed and added an extra 3 panels. Got a Tesla Model 3 in 2019. Came up a little short being 100 solar. 5 extra panels for a Model 3 would have been about right.

Roughly how many miles do you average per day? Thanks for the feedback.

Great video. Finally found one worth watching! Thank you for the very clear and straightforward explanation of your workflow

You bet, we will have that same calculator integrated to the website in the next 3-4 weeks to make plugging in your own numbers easier.

I have a roughly 16kW array and a model 3, it meets our needs with a little extra. I work from home but still drive a lot.

16 kW is a nice size setup. If I add on my solar pergola that would put me right at the same size which will be needed here soon for charging the Cybertruck. Thanks for the feedback!

I’m a big supporter of solar power and electrifying all transport, it’s so much more efficient (80+%) than ICE cars (30%) and zero pollution during usage. Another factor worth considering is the time of day that your cars are parked at home and plugged in, if you leave for work in the morning and return at night then you’ll miss out on ‘peak’ charging periods.
@everydaysolar
@everydaysolar Год назад
Do you have variable rates per kWh depending on the time of day? We are flat rate here in Illinois.
@brendanclarke1979
@brendanclarke1979 Год назад
@@everydaysolar Yes, in Australia grid usage is more expensive in the evenings and nighttime, there are 3-tariffs (off-peak, shoulder and peak) which are aligned to grid demand. Feed-in tariffs here are only about 1/5th of peak usage charges so self consumption during max solar production times is important. I’d definitely prefer how things are setup in Illinois, simplifies EV ownership for sure!

I got a 10.3 kw solar system installed. All panels on South side. Estimate 12k kwh/year. Still waiting for the power company to install net meter. I have 2 EVs(Bolt and ID4). My 2021 electric bill and 1/2 of my 2022 bill, I averaged 15k kwh / year. However, I since got a new HVAC, added the 2 EVs in 2022 and will have kids moving out, so I have no idea what my avg yearly kwh will be... Too many changes happened in the last 12 months!

That is a nice little setup you have going 👍 👍 Yeah we will be switching over to EVs in the next 12-18 months. Waiting on my Cybertruck which will crank up our energy consumption dramatically.

When someone shows everyday usage of solar power in their house, it make sence. You have someone showing a system but they don't show everyday usage.

I produce two kilowatt hours of electric every day. I run my refrigerator, I use my lights, my TV, my computer, my propane heater fan. I charge my Phone. Shaver, Powertool batteries. My Solar lights I use battery operated lanterns for my light.

We run a Hitachi 6kw heat pump, all lighting, cooking and have two EV’s. Our daughter is learning to drive next year and will also be driving an EV.

Sounds like you guys have some pretty health energy consumption demands. How many kWh do you guys consume on average per month?

How much energy do you use? I am getting heat pump and want to size my solar for the new consumption but don’t want to wait a year.

I don't believe power utilities will give you anything like a 0.7 credit for your generated power.

Getting backup Batteries. Question: Can you use the EV Truck as backup/Battery power, in the event of a Grid-down situation?
@everydaysolar
@everydaysolar Год назад
Ford F150 Lighting has that feature. We don’t have final specs on the Cybertruck to know if it will have the capability. I hope so 🤞 as the battery will be about 100 kWh which would be Awesome for home backup.

The solar system for the house makes sense from a financial standpoint, but throwing the EVs into the mix does not make sense financially and are not practical for taking long trips where you have to rely on commercial charging stations.
@rebeccavalicoff1581

Our infrastructure is decades old and this country hasn't made sure utility companies invested for the future properly. So relying only on electricity is an accident waiting to happen! If we had gasoline cars, at least we can get somewhere. I believe we should insist on better infrastructure, burying electric wires and making sure we have reliable utilities!!!! Before going all electric!!
@everydaysolar

I am all for investing in infrastructure and the transition to an all electric transportation system will need a serious focus on the infrastructure to support such a dramatic change 💯

How much solar energy does it take to grow grass for a horse to walk one mile? How about if it's grain? How much solar energy does it take to grow enough grain for a human to walk one mile? How much solar energy does it take to walk one mile if the human is eating flesh? We are all solar powered.

Yeah for solar or renewable energy as a whole it can get fairly political but independent of whether you lean left or right the technology can be compelling including the incentives (Federal, State, USDA, etc.)

Subsidies can be good or bad to help an agenda. I built a simple DIY system and purchased Ecoflow Delta 2 and both power me through Van life easily with 2 100 watt panels. Solar pays for itself indeed.

Known reserves of extractable oil is 56 years. Known US reserves is 17 to 20 years. Cars last 20 years. The world Gvmts. are getting aheead of this problem, as they should.
