Multi-species fishing is so fun and such a great way to see a new place! We headed to the Mediterranean island of Malta on the hunt for all fish that swim! LRF Fishing is something I don't do too often, but safe to say we had a lot of fun LRF fishing and micro fishing for some amazing species. That didn't stop us trying to catch a few big predators mind due....
Hope you enjoy this multi species fishing episode. Something abit different to say the least!

What a cracking video buddy. Brings back happy memories. I was in Malta in 1988. I think I was about 17. Showing my age now. !!!!! we were catching some of them, bream using bread. I got a little cheap fishing rod from a little tackle shop. Well it was more of a shop that sold bit of everything really. Anyway we were sat in between these big boats on the harbour. Me and my old man. Drinking glass bottles of Coca-Cola. Anyway, the shop had some little spinner lures so we bought a couple. I remember casting one out in between these two boats. All of a sudden this large torpedo shaped fish which I can only assume was a barracuda came out of nowhere like lightning. In my panic and before my underpants could fill up with something rather unpleasant , I reeled in as fast as I could. I remember looking at my dad and saying what F …! It was the fact that I didn’t know what I was going to do with it when I actually managed to land it. It must’ve been about 2 foot long. !! Then again everything seems bigger when you’re younger. Like bars of chocolate. I’m sure they get smaller over the years. !!! there was allsorts of fish all over the place. This obviously was over 30 years ago. From what you have said, I think you could possibly be right. Obviously everyone is catching and eating fish of different sizes. They should have put the smaller ones back but some countries don’t bother and aren’t like us Brits as we care about everything. And so we should. The way things are going if we don’t look after what we have there won’t be a lot left for our future generations. If we were all a bit selfless, im sure the world would be a much better place. … it’s when you watch the nature programmes with David Attenborough on. He is so passionate about everything on and around our planet … certainly need a lot more people like him around. Like watching yours and George’s videos. You guys always bring up things like the environment and caring for fish and wildlife.. It’s not just about catching a fish. It’s about enjoying being in and around a different environment not a lot of people get to see. Angling certainly gets us closer to lots of things some people only see on the TV.. Big thumbs up to you buddy and all the best to you and the family 👍😊🎣…. Blimey !!! Where did all that waffle come from 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

John, by far the best comment I have ever had to a video!!! What a story and don’t care what age you are seeing a Barra bomb out and smash your lure is a mad rush and pretty bloody scary!! It’s a funny one, let’s be honest the locals taking the small fish isn’t the problem it’s the larger commercial fleets just swiping everything :( but on a micro level it does make a difference some of these fish spend their whole lives in that harbour! However, at the moment it is what it is and it’s horrendously sad 😔 thank you for watching John and thank you for commenting as always!!! ✌️👌

One of the main causes of the dwindling fish stocks around the Maltese islands is the lack of enforcement of rules. You go to potentially good fishing spots such as Qawra point or Blue grotto and you end up seeing hundreds of metres long gillnets just 30-40m from the shore. I met many Maltese complaining about that but nothing happened.
@japanesefishingadventures
@japanesefishingadventures Год назад
It’s shocking and love your profile pic btw! It’s a key reason if legislation is in place even if it’s disobeyed it’s a deterrent and something that can be acted on, if there is nothing then it’s a free for all! Some will break the rules but most won’t and that’s so important
@Greyjayjay
@Greyjayjay Год назад
They also keep a lot of the little fish rather than throw back in.
@fishinginthemed3110
@fishinginthemed3110 Год назад
absolutely correct, unfortunately politicians making laws regulating fishing will mean less votes, and none of them have the balls to go ahead and do that. money trumps everything on this rock :) nonetheless we have a great potential for massive pelagic fish, i hope that in the future something is done about this ravaging of gillnets and the insanely rampant ignorance among recreational fishermen. not a single fish is released
@zarbowski
@zarbowski Год назад
@@japanesefishingadventures I think that the best way to tackle the problem is to promote leisure fishing. Fishing in Malta is a tradition, and still a source of livelihood, with artisanal fishing still in practice to feed associated restaurants and contributing to families overall income. The depletion of stock of commercial fish is driving folk to target bays with gillnets. The same community need to be turned into the protectors of the sea and still earn a living from it. This can be done through fishing tourism in the winter and early shoulder months. Catch and release obviously - though there are some sustainable species that when at the right size can be kept. In particular, a variety of bream species.

Ahhhhh this video made me smile so much. I lived there for 18+ years. Had i been there and knew you were there i would have taken you some secret spots. My friends taught me to fish there off the cliffs at night (ghar hasan was a good spot) and we cast out with the 2 hooks and decent weight. Use imperial worm. Leave with bell attached and sip beers waiting for the jingle. We would usually catch nice size bream. Those fish you were catching a lot of - we would look for when scuba diving with spear guns.. they would stay still and point towards octopus so we would look for them 🙂. Unfortunately you fished in the central part of Malta which is very built up and full of marinas. The best place to go shore jigging or spinning is either in the rural south or the north where there are more reefs, cliffs and less construction. Or else next time try the grand harbor of Valletta where I catch 2kg blue runners and amberjacks from shore with a piece of Squid

@BangAverageFishing it was an amazing experience, like being in a RU-vid video. My target at the time was a barracuda, we had bonito bitten in half on retrieve by blue fish, threw the carcass in and a few minutes later a 200lb plus stingray comes and hovers it up!!! Sure I'll catch some new species in malta, yet to catch a parrot fish and rainbow wrasse judging by your video. Will take some of the gulp bait as you had great results. But will put a lot of effort with livebait for the predators.

Always been a big fan of the channel and its nice to see you catch some Mediterranean fish, im always fishing in greece and its very similiar. Parrotfish are quite tricky over there, worms are the only bait that work. the are sea bream everywhere, and painted comber (the pretty one u caught around 7:20) are the best, quite tasty, very pretty, and theyll eat anything. That jack was probably a baby bluefish actually, really rare catch, never got a bluefish during the day. At night with a popper they're great, they get really big. Also, once youve gotten used to mediterranean fishing, rainbow wrasse become terrible, eventually I started to hate them.

Just discovered your channel and Subscribed, It was lovely watching these fish being released and that's what we want in Malta. 6:11 was a Blue runner (Sawrella Imperjali) and 16:53 was a Lizard fish (Skalm) just be carful from poison Weevers (Tracna) as we have a lot. well done 👍
