The main problem should be "which stocks to pick?", if a person finds that, the problem of "number of stocks" is very very small. Talking about the diversification, there is no point of buying stocks of the sector which is not in trend. Adding those stocks will bring down the profits of portfolio. People just add the stocks of all the sectors because either/both of below reasons. 1. They mostly don't know which stocks to pick exactly. 2. They want to satisfy themselves by adding a label of "diversification" in their portfolio. Warren Buffett rightly said in a conference, "Diversification is protection against ignorance."
In my opinion,15-20 stocks from different sectors are more than enough…as you gain experience in market,you can bring this number below 15 also…totally depends on the risk appetite and conviction

Point-1. Sir- this is again a very useful insight from you. I would request you to make a video where you would suggest corpus wise number of stocks. Mean to say for 1L, 2L, 5L, 10L, 15L and 20L kind of breakup. I am a beginner with small corpus to start and want to increaase it gradually. It will be a great help.
Right, it depends on your knowledge, agar sahi stock find karna aata hai to 2-3 stock sahi hai, agar nahi aata hai to capital ko equal divide karke 35-40 sector leader compnies me invest karo, ek month me ek ya do se jayada stock mat buy karo, Rome ek din me nahi bana waise hi portfolio bhi ek din me nahi banana chahiye. Market me every month updown hote hain, research karke month me max 2 share
Warren Buffet says, "diversification is protection against ignorance". But we are too scared to have conviction on few stocks. Its very important to do detailed research on each stocks and promoters. Some trial and error with limited money invested.
