Tourism has grown exponentially over the past few decades, but what effect is it having on some of the world's most beautiful cities? We break down four major ways cities are being impacted by mass tourism. #MassTourism #Tourism
I haven't been to Bali but I have been to Labuan Bajo, another tourist spot in Flores, Indonesia. 90% of the tourists were obnoxious, self-centered drunkards who had zero respect for the locals' hometown. These people see anywhere they go as their own personal resort. Anywhere you go, YOU'RE A GUEST. Behave like one.
And then Covid changed everything. We claimed back our cities and had time to rethink mass tourism. Dolphins in Venice, the cleanup of waste in Thailand, nature recovering and local communities connecting again. Let this be the new normal 🙏🏻
Not for long. It’ll be packed like it was before and even more people. We would need Covid year round forever to stop tourism and overpopulation of humans
Ignorant tourists who damage ancient ruins and sites should be immediately fined thousands of dollars and banned from ever visiting the place again. There should also be guards constantly patrolling the area to make sure no damage has been done to the remains. The amount of tourists entering the place at a time should also be heavily restricted.
@@bobmarshall3700 You missed the point. The fines fund security. It's also not a battalion of guards, but 5 or 10 guards patrolling. That's cheap for the city or gov to pay.
First arrives is an explorer, then a traveller, then elite tourist, then travel journalist, then a business interest, then airport, then mass tourism, then destruction of environment, charm, and either destruction or the place turns into a pastich of itself.
I live in Sweden. I have never been outside of Europe. I have only been to Denmark and The Netherlands. For some reason I have never been interested in the whole tourism thing. You don't really get to know the country you are visiting very well imo. I don't own a smartphone and I don't use social media such as Facebook and Instagram because I don't want to be a sheep like the rest of the herd. I like to think for myself.
@@sillidill5227 lol I use smartphone because I need it not because I'm following a trend and just because you said you don't use a smartphone means I should believe it. Chill, this is the internet. Stop taking life so seriously.
Tourism just makes the lives of residents and taxpayers worse, as the cost of providing facilities for tourists falls on local people who get NOTHING but agrivation in return.
And I want to say that some of Chinese visitors have bad behaviors too because they may cause less/more destructive to landmarks(also known to vandalise them).
tourism is harmful to the economy for local people, because stuff gets too expensive, but it is good for a small group of greedy people. So they sacrifice the people's well being to please the few rich.
Turkey should also be careful about this, the number of tourists is increasing very quickly, it is over 40 millions for this year and it is already considered as a new record, the best thing to do is try to attract tourist in other parts of Turkey not only the south ( Bodrum/Antalya) and Istanbul.
@@theguy9166 See my comment two years ago was actually really on point, the places I mentioned are actually heavily dependent on tourism, now that there is covid and number dropped a lot they are suffering meanwhile other parts of Turkey that diversified their economic activity have no issues. This is why tourism should never be the main focus of a place.
@@Leonheart18 sorry, i shouldve put more effort. I dont like the idea of seein tourists in the rest of turkey. It doesnt fit with the rest of turkey. Tourists should just be in the beaches and all those lame 'very luxerious' things. And i agree with you on the last, economy should never be dependent.
The gain is really only short term. As you price natives out of the city and they look for jobs/homes elsewhere, the city will become a hollowed out shithole. The mass tourism isn’t helping them, it’s just a death sentence for their city and culture and traditions.
I'd like to see a detailed analysis on what exactly tourists do, for example, if they go to Barcelona for a week, how much time (on average) is spent, in say, La Sagrada Familia, and how much time is spent in restaurants.
Like everything .At the moment you are lowering the cost then more and more people have access to it then the quality drops . In the 80’s an economy ticket to cross the Atlantic (i.e a Paris-NYC) was 5000 French Francs and the minimum wage in France was 2500 FF . Minimum wage is now 1300 € so the equivalent of 2600€ (a little bit less than 3000$) . Some countries who would have had decided to go for high end resort would not have had those issues. The positive thing is that some countries are now trying to go this way.
thats weird, because I searched up and the country of the USA only gets 77 million international tourists every year and I would find it quite weird if 200 million of those 250 million would be tourists from the US itself because that would mean that more then half of the US visits California each year
Even Paris, the most visited city on earth, doesn't get 80 millions. 250 millions would be about 1 human out of 32. How could you believe your number was right ...
Don't add a comment until you have lived in a 'tourist town'. Otherwise you have no idea of what goes on, or what locals have to endure. Also, don't impose your views on tourism on others without enduring the negative effects yourself.
This video was made 5 years ago..By now Venice has no longer 60.000 inhabitants (true real citizens or 'cittadini') but has sored to less then 50.000. And guess why: people moving away because they are tired of the herds of tourists and noise. They don't feel 'at home' anymore. Also: too many houses not being available anymore for housing, because they are put out for touristrental on bnb, or otherwise. A very lucrative business for the owner(s) off course..🤔😔 Having lived in Amsterdam for a long time, I have seen the sometimes devastating effect of mass tourism on the city.
HEAVY GOODS AND SERVICES TAXES INTO THE COUNTRY !!!!!!!! IF THEY BUY MORE TRADITIONAL PRODUCTS....THESE TOURIST LEVIES CAN BE FORFEITED IN THE AIRPORTS BEFORE DEPARTURE. IF 5HEY BUY NOTHING. ...THEY HAVE TO PAY HEFTY DEPARTURE TAX
Tourists: ✅ Travel 1000+ miles by car or by plane, ✅ get stuck in traffic jams/miss flight/ connections caused by overuse... ✅ blame the locals/government for it ✅ Check into suit/room at a ressort (don't they exist in your home country too? Why travelling the miles?) ✅ Be super loud at the trains because who cares for the local workers who use the train ride as a a way to relax? ✅ Get up at 5am only to reserve 10 lies with 1 or 2 towels at a small swimming pool that you're going to use at 3 pm only. ✅ Mess up the buffet at the breakfast by putting more things on your plate than you can eat. ✅ Make tons of photos for your tiktok and instagram at overrated places.. so that everyone can see what douchebag you are. ✅ travel bag home and experience the same amount of stress as you came. Instead of relaxed regenerated you feel tired, sick and frustrated and paid money for it.. Well done!
Malaysia have same prob too. Now there are 5 milion illegal immigrants in Msia from all over the world esp Bangladesh Indon Viet India Nepal Myanmar China Thai Ctrl Asia etc
Unless it's an emergency or it's local, people shouldn't be traveling. The entitlement of human beings and lack of care about anything but their own narrow short sighted pleasures will end us and possibly most of life on Earth.
Tourists travelling by plane to get to these places may be paying for chemtrails sprayed from planes. Look up chemtrails - or better still, watch skies daily. Be aware of what is going on.
For God sake , why we humans always create problems in even beautiful things , itz frustrating to listen this term "over tourism". How inhuman this is . Do u want us to visit mars or Neptune ?? I don't know why that even knowing the sensitivity of the issue im hating it as stupid argument :( :( . No life just problems everywhere
Solutions to solve the problem of mass tourism: 1) Ban alcohol 2) Ban prostitution 3) Ban Drugs 4) Introduce dress code (preferably Islamic) 5) Ban homosexuality 6) Ban unmarried couples 7) Put a cap on number of tourists These measures will seriously reduce the number of tourists visiting these cities. It will automatically reduce housing prices, pollution of all kinds, damage to the cities etc.
Oh please. Boo hoo. Not every country should be turned Islam. Some of these are fine, but banning homosexuality, come on they don’t have a choice. Islamic dress code, not everyone is Muslim you know.
