I would like to add a few more measurements to take. If you have a large bust you will also have to measure from your collar bone over the apex to your waist. Otherwise the top rides up in front. Also if you are a plus size you will need your sitting measurements for all what you just shown, to see if they will fit the finished garments measurements. I am plus size, as you could probably figure out. There is a 16 inch difference between sitting and standing measurements around my hips. Which is why I bring up sitting measurements. Cup size is tricky, if I use a foam cup then I am a C cup. If I go by the high and full bust as you recommended, there is 11 inches difference. If I go by band size and full bust there is 7 inches difference. Between band and high there is 6 inches difference. This is why I said it was tricky. Do you plan a video on making a sloper? As these can be helpful in laying on a pattern (or under it) to quickly see where there might be problems with the patterns fit.
I love it! So very informative. I wish it was in print as there's lots to remember until you do it over and over again and can commit to memory. My memory is older! Thank you for the great video!
Really helpful video, I've seen and read many (many) measuring instructions, and I've still managed to measure my hips wrong for oh about 40 years. I have saddlebags (as my grandmother charmingly referred to them), but they are, obviously, lower than my hips. Seriously, no wonder all of my home made clothing is too baggy, I was always heading to at least two sizes too big.
Thanks! It's the Akita top lengthened into a dress. That pattern is discontinued, but you could get a similar look with the Hansie: www.seamwork.com/catalog/variations/hansie-bonus
I wish it was that simple. A plus size atypical body is very different in so many ways. For instance a waist measurement parallel to the floor does nothing for someone, who has flab in the front that lowers the waist, and bulges on the back that makes it higher. Does anyone make a video using a plus sized, atypical body?
Thank you for this! I'm watching the You Can Sew Pants series as well. What is the best way to determine crotch depth? I'm so short-waisted that the waistline of pants ends up several inches below my natural waist.
Hi Martha! If you're a member you could ask this question over in the Seamwork Community! If you post pictures of your muslin many fellow Seamworkers can help with fit!
Brilliant vlog, you really simplified how to measure your body.Could the photographer, please, film you looking at the cameras when you talk. Its really off putting when your talking and looking to the side.Thanks.
