I'll probably miss stuff, but here's a quick list of what comes to mind - cutting down forests to grow crops for livestock (LOTS of land needed to produce a small amount of meat). We already know and we're already doing this. Australia has huge wild pasture lands of millions of acres, they round up the cattle by helicopter. Same with Brazil and most of the Western US where our beef comes from. They spend a few months on a feed lot to fatten up afterward but most of their time is spent out in the wild where they do minimal damage to the land because they're just taking the place in the ecosystem left by the absence of wild grazing bison or kangaroos.
@II-jz1zo

there simply isn’t enough land for the massive amount meat in demand, and the animals would overgraze the land. Overgrazing is already an issue. The rich people, even after becoming vegetarian, still used a lot of energy, but they began to criticize that their energy servants-- the farmworkers and the laborers that made the "made in China (or other Asian countries)" began to consume a little meat after harsh works, as they are getting a little richer. i rather cut back of the human population along with cutting back meat production to a sustainable level before the population boom 100 or so years ago. i will continue to eat real meat, but we've been more careful in selecting which type from what since big agriculture is about as greedy as big pharma: profit-driven motives. if there was an incentive to subsidize small farmers within traveling distance to a city or town (within the state as well), including an emphasis of fruits and vegetable over grains, while cutting back on meat production and implement humane methods of animal-raising, i might be all for it. but being told to go on an all-plant diet is just not feasible for a lot of people, be it for nutritional needs or just outright stubbornness (in my case, i'm just stubborn, and i'm sure my body will retaliate, being on blood thinners and thus cannot have too much vitamin K, not to mention i've had blood tests show deficiency in B12 and iron in the past due to a diet of whatever i can be bothered with). besides, where else are you gonna get the fertilizer for all of your personal soy bean needs? (iirc, they have vitamin K as well, which sucks, since i like to try tofu.) for that matter, why can't we just grow hay and grass instead of corn and soy beans? those poor animals can't eat them, they weren't built to digest that sort of stuff.
@gorkyd7912
@gorkyd7912 Год назад
There is no reason to go on an all-plant diet. We're supporting a massive 8-billion people. The tiny fraction facing real starvation has nothing to do with actual food scarcity, we have WAY more than enough that we throw out each year than would be needed to support the few actually starving. And raising animals doesn't cause climate change either, it's pseudoscience. And the population is no long skyrocketing, growth has slowed down massively with access to contraception.
