i'm looking to crowdfund an american football game much better than madden it's not even funny. take ideas from existing sports franchises, streamline them, and boom a better idea than what the current madden offers
hey Brett would you ever do a video about your favorite defenses of all time and why you love them?' i would certainly love to see that and contribute a decent amount of donation for your troubles
Wait a minute how has obj more total yards per game? They both Ayer 14 games so far and Thomas has 1600ish receiving yards and obj 900ish??? Thomas had 110.9 yards per game. Obj has 65 and Julio only has 88.5 aswell?
This is amazing. As a Saints fan I don't feel like Brees or Thomas get the credit they deserve. After watching this I don't feel like Brees or Thomas remotely get the credit they deserve.
The Piper Report Yah I don’t see Drew showing any signs of aging....like a good wine, he’s just getting better with time. Give him and CGM, Cook and TQS a whole off season to build more rapport and next year is gonna be even better. Ya’ll watch, Brees going for 5,000+ next year, CGM going for MegaTron record and Cook will be a 1200 yard receiver and TQS 800+
Oh definitely. I can see him playing for 3-4 years yet. The way their offense is set up they don't need to go 40+ yard passes. The only fast receivers they have are Ginn and Taysom, and Taysom isn't really a receiver. Well he kind of is, just like he's kind of a QB, tight end, professor, butcher, day care social worker, etc. So it's not like they need someone to throw the ball that far. Plus, he was on an MVP season last year before he slowed down near the end and Mahomes took over. Hopefully he has three years left in him then Taysom can take over. Saints would be great with a dual-threat QB and Teddy isn't it. Teddy is a pocket passer. Taysom can throw and run like he has the cops after him
@@thepiperreport8198 I don't think you guys should run Taysom Hill as a dedicated QB. His throwing reminds me of Blake Bortles... You guys could totally snag a qb in the later rounds in the draft and Payton will make him great. He did it with Romo and saved Drew's Career. He can do it again.
@@commissaryarrick9670 Basically. He just looks at the corner playing off, glances at Mike and telepathically says "go get that fucker", and then Mike just does it...
@@commissaryarrick9670 brees does this often and it is not in one of the two plays called in the huddle. Brees has free reign to do this. You can also tell cause the whole offensive line blocks as a run play. And cause he throws it as soon as it is snapped, the is no illegal man down field.
Eh, I dunno about that. The only thing that compares to that is a mother and a child. Nobody else is that close and in sync. ^_^ . That might get way too personal
True Scoundrel - lol, yeah. Psychology is a hell of a science. Although I confess I don't know how knowing psychology is directly correlated with not being married. Cheers.
True Scoundrel - lol. I usually do that to trolls. You'd be surprised how some of them react. It's usually amusing. One troll actually got mad and said that he had a Master's degree and I had know idea what I was talking about. lol . He tried to reverse it around but you could tell he was just making it up. I kid you not.
Very similar in terms of size, hands, and lack of burner speed to former Saints receiver Marques Colston, who was the ultimate clutch 3rd down receiver and didn't mind getting crunched running routes across the middle. He amazingly never made a Pro Bowl despite six 1000 receiving yd. seasons (and two 900 yd. seasons) with Brees as his QB. In fact, Thomas is the only wideout in New Orleans who has made a Pro Bowl while playing in the same season as Brees. (For example, Joe Horn made three Pro Bowls with the Saints, but they were all before Brees arrived.) Yes, there's national media bias against the Saints & other small-market teams, exemplified by Brees' stunning omission from the NFL's All Time Top 100 team this week. Art Monk, Cris Carter & Jordy Nelson are other good comparisons for Thomas, in addition to Irvin.
Brees: Just down right filthy Thomas: Utterly disgusting Brees and Thomas: An unfathomable, unprecedented, absolutely absurdly unfair combination generating statistical majesty, and unbearable dread in the hearts of opponents everywhere.
@@shizzaff8424 Brett Kollman made a deal with the football gods so everytime he wants to win in fantasy, he just praises the opponents on RU-vid and to all of his subscribers, and all of his subscribers probably use these players in fantasy because of how well they're doing. Lol
Sounds like the same chemistry Manning and Harrison used to have. Changing the play at the line of scrimmage. Pre-snap Communication with subtle signals instead of words. Legendary.
Auston - Umm... lol.. He's averaging 2.3 TD's per game. Lamar Jackson is averaging 2.2. He's averaging 272 yards per game. Which is 9th highest in nfl for QBs. He's rated #1 in passer rating in the NFL with 115.3. He's leading the league in completion percentage with 75.8%, which is better than the record he set last year. Though to be fair, he's only played 9 games so having a completion percentage that high with 9 games is really good, but not outstanding. Pretty sure he's going to win comeback player of the year. If Titans make the playoffs then Tannahill will probably get it. If not then Brees definitely will. He scored 9 TDs in the last two games, 5 against the Niners who were #1 overall defense and #1 overall passing defense at the time. They are #2 overall defense now. As for being underrated, nobody mentions him in the top 5 QB's yet in my humble opinion he's top 3 all time. People always want to judge running backs and receivers on individual stats, but with QB's it's about wins and superbowls. Which I never understood. QB's don't win superbowls. Teams win superbowls. In terms of individual stats Brees blows everyone out of the water. Here is just a short list. Believe me when I say short Highest career regular season passing yards per game of (281.6) Most games all time with 300 + passing yards (120) Most games all time with 400 + passing yards (19) Fastest to reach 40, 50, and 60 thousand passing yards Most seasons leading the league in passing yards (7) Most consecutive seasons with 4,000 passing yards (12) Most consecutive seasons with 5,000 passing yards (3) No other player has more than 1 Most season with 5,000 passing yards (5) (no other player has more than 1) Has passing yards record Most games throwing 4 or more touchdowns (36) Tied for most touchdowns thrown in a game (7) Highest completion percentage in a game (96.7%, 29/30 4 TDs 307 yards) Most consecutive games with 1 touchdown (54) beating the 52 year old record by 7 games Most consecutive home games with 1 touchdown (60) Most consecutive seasons with 20 + touchdowns (16) Most consecutive seasons with 30+ touchdowns (9) Only QB in history to pass for 40 + touchdowns in consecutive seasons. The only one These are consecutive seasons. It’s not like he had one great year with one great team. This is with a horrible defense and an average offense. Most accurate QB of all time: Record for all time completion percentage of 67.6% Record for highest completion percentage in a season at 74.4%. One of two QBs to win a superbowl with a team whose defense was in the 20’s. The majority of SB winning teams have defenses in top 10. (I believe this is 3 now. I believe Patriots defense last year was outside top 10) I guess I'm curious what you mean when you say he didn't have a good season this year. What exactly are you referring to, to reach that conclusion??
@@thepiperreport8198 and he might not even throw for 3k yards. Believe me, I know Brees is good. There is not a single soul on this planet that believes he is "underrated".
Anuj Singh - I confess I don't hear anyone say MT is underrated, but I hear Brees is underrated a lot. That, or that he's a system QB and crap like that. Especially when it comes to top QB conversations. But even people talking about what he does in the regular season and that it's nothing special is beyond me. If he keeps this up next two games he'll be comeback player for sure. Which I think is a big part of why he made pro bowl. That, and his stats for this year are better than most. Not all, but most
One of my favorite things about football is when a wide receiver and QB are on the same page and can make plays when everything goes wrong. Great breakdown Brett.
Saints NEVER get the credit from the trash media. They are so disgusting. They will turn a conversation about thomas into how great the cowboys will be next season
that moment when you pass on MT for. Devante Adoms in the fantasy league BTW that Dalton Risner #66 for the broncos in the photo. brett can you do a vid on him and thanks for all the likes
My opinion is Chris Carson. He has 1200 yards this year and has been vital to the Seahawks but never gets recognition. I get wilson sets him up for success but he never get any recognition
This honestly looks identical to the Ben Roethlisberger/Antonio Brown analysis. And being a Ravens fan, I'll tell you how scary that can be when both players are at there best.
11:23 It's sad, really. My mind was still stuck on Jared Cook's rookie years when he bails QB's out by flipping in the air and catching one-handed. But Jeff Fisher wasted his talents, twice.
This man Michael Thomas is such an amazing player to watch. He plays with so much heart, fire, and intensity; it's truly an honor to see him polish into one the best to ever do it. This man was destined for greatness and it's easy to see why. Amazing video Mr. Kollmann as always, keep up the great work!
This is the best take I’ve ever seen for Michael Thomas. It’s about time somebody gives him the respect he needs. I’m a Saints fan so I watch him every week and 100% agree he makes their team go from a negative record team to a 2-4 loss season team just because he is special but his connection with his quarterbacks. Even when Bridgewater was playing his connection with Teddy made the offense still effective because he works well with QBs and his stats are unbelievable and don’t lie and it’s about time people give him the respect he deserves
I know Lamar Jackson gets all of the attention as the clear MVP frontrunner (which he absolutely should be at this point in time), but Michael Thomas should definitely be in consideration for it. If the NFL decides this year that there should be two co-MVPs instead of just one MVP, it should be Thomas alongside Jackson.
@@33s60 I wouldn't say that. The offense would be good with or without Mike Thomas, but record breaking? Not happening. The chemistry between qb and wideout is not something that can be measured.
@@namison06 yeah, but remember it's called most valuable. Drop lamar or wilson from their respective team the ravens go to 9 wins and the seahawks go to 5. Without mike the saints are still at eleven wins. Yes, mike elevates the saints, but he doesnt make it.
@@33s60 True, but the quarterback is only as good as the talent around him (most of the time). I remember watching Kansas City in the early 2000s with Trent Green and Priest Holmes thinking to myself, it'd be nice if he had a #1 WR to throw to, Tony the tiger Gonzalez can't carry those guys on his back like this.
Similar to Jerry Rice. He wasnt fast or some freak speciman like Randy Moss or Calvin Johnson. It was his route running and understanding of the game that made Jerry Rice the greatest WR to ever play do it.
Yo the breakdown you do in this video is absolute god tier status. Instantly subscribed, got 3 friends to subscribe also within seconds of seeing this video. Out-fucking-standing man, please make more of these forever!
Hey Brett, another awesome video! I watch your Film Room every week and you definitely helped me understanding the game of Football better! I have a little idea: I know it will be a lot of work but could you explain all the defensive coverage ( it´s principles, when to use them and how to beat them effectively ) in the Offseason? Merry Christmas and best regards from Germany!
The thing that makes Brees so incredible is the fact that most of his throws are made blinded. The man can't see over his O-lineman. He built his entire career off of timing and muscle memory. That one throw just exemplifies what he pretty much does every play.
Just because Thomas isn't a flashy wr don't mean he's not better. Thomas is great because of his IQ and he is always OPEN maybe hopkins could have as much yards as him if he could be open all the time.
@@KxngTsuGamingOGkxng Absolutely, Peopke need to wake up and understand we are watching one of the most dominant seasons of any WR in NFL history. He doesnt have a weakness, there's nothing anyone can do to stop him
Dustin Lowery These casuals act like little fucking kids. You don’t need to run a streak every play and one hand it to be considered a great we. It’s about getting the job done consistently which he’s done all the time. NFL defenses knows every game the ball is going to him all game yet they can’t stop it. He beats man, he beats zone, he adjusts his routes mid play, and he has 80% catch radius. What more do you want from him? Ohhh they want him to run a go route one hand off his back shoulder to prove something.
Even as a titans fan, I wish this video would’ve been made after the titans game. There was such a discrepancy in the first part of the game and the second. Somehow the titans confused the saints for a bit and there were some uncharacteristic bad chemistry plays between the amazing Brees/Thomas connection. But they figured it out and I wish you could’ve talked about it on this video
I'm really hoping that Michael Thomas is greater than the dreaded Kollman curse because I need him to absolutely go off and help me win a championship.
@@indiig. you clearly don't know what I'm saying...I said off stats he doesn't drop a throw unless its legit impossible to catch...if he touched it trying it counts as a drop. And wtf do you mean "that's a fake stat'" it's not a stat. It's something you have to watch, clearly you don't actually watch Texans games despite what you said...that or you're lying to try to prove a point.
@@indiig. look I agree that Michael Thomas is one of the best in football, I was mainly saying if I had a choice I'd throw the ball to Deandre not michael.
The only thing o disagreed with in this video was saying that without MT, the unit would be very below average. While I get your point, Drew would still be shredding defenses like he always has with below average receivers.
I love my Vikings and think highly of our defense, but when we played the Saints in the playoffs 2 years ago Michael Thomas could not be controlled. He is phenomenal. Elite speed, great ability to adjust and catch. A real treat to watch for Saints fans, I'm jealous.
No.1 and ONLY reason Michael Thomas doesn't get proper credit is the same as why most of the talking heads continue to diminish Brees' place in history: They play for the Saints. If those guys played for the Cowboys, 49ers, Packers, Bears, Giants, Patriots, you name it, they'd have been hailed as legends long before they even deserved it. You play for the Saints, you will never get your propers. That's just how it is.
11:25 - Brees/Saints would make it work. You have to remember, before Michael Thomas Brees/Saints have never had a pro-bowl wide receiver. Ever. So Brees' multiple 5k yard seasons (3 consecutive 5 total, no other QB has more than 1 5k yard season. Not just one consecutive, but one total) was done with tight ends and no name receivers. Thomas is amazing, best WR in the league. But if he got injured Brees would still find targets. They just wouldn't be as dominate as they are now
Brexxx Luger nahh I think brees made graham better cause soon as he went to the packers it wasn’t the same but colston no doubt he was pro bowl talent the quiet storm
Been needing a YT football coach for a minute. I need the name of the song used for the last part of the VPN ad. I went through all the songs in the list, but I couldn't find "Pacific - The Way" and none of the rest of them matched.
As a Saints fan for many years the thing that impresses me the most about the Brees Thomas connection since he was drafted is the entire defense knows it's going to Thomas and yet, they still cant seem to slow him down. Some teams have contained him but containing Thomas still means like 7 catches for 80 yards lol boy I wish Brees was younger so this could go on alot longer.
We know what'll happen to the Saints in playoffs Vernon Davis TD? Minneapolis miracle? Non call PI? I can't wait to see what's next. But watch Marcus Williams be a part of it.
I feel like I'm replying to every post on this video, but I love my Saints and love my Thomas/Brees duo and love having these conversations. Jared Cook is becoming quite the beast as well. If he keeps going that would be a great trio threat for teams. Anyway, back to the point of my comment. If Saints get #1 seed they will make it to the SB. Of that, I am certain. Not sure if they will win, but they will definitely make it. Last year they were dominate on offense 80% of the season then started slacking and choking at the end of the season. So when they made it to the playoffs they weren't really at their peak. This year was the complete opposite. Their offense was very inconsistent for 3/4 of the season. They just weren't clicking. Instead, they were going through intermittent bursts of dominating, then slacking, then dominating, then slacking.. If they play the playoffs like they have the last two games, and if they have top seed no team will beat them. I actually predicted Niners to beat Saints by 10 or more points because I didn't think Saints could remain consistent all game and win. And even though Niners won, I didn't really see it as a Saints lost. They far exceeded my expectations. Whoever had the ball last was going to win that game. You could just tell. Saints Defense is actually better this year than last year as well, except maybe their secondary, and they have Jared Cook and last year they didn't have any tight ends. I can definitely see them making it all the way this year, and if they get top seed I'm sure they will. If they get 2nd seed I think they have a better chance than not. It seems last 3 years have been building up to this. Minneapolis miracle was rough, but even if they won I don't think they would have beaten Eagles. That was the Eagles year. Last year they made it a game further than the previous year and should have been in SB but refs screwed them. This year it's the superbowl. Damn, long post. My arm hurts
@@thepiperreport8198 Long post indeed, lol. Saints should've gone to the SuperBowl last year, but every opportunity they get it seems to be some random bullshit that happens. Now they need to root for Seattle and the Vikings, otherwise they are stuck with the #3 seed. That 3 tier with GB and Seattle is dogcrap.
When you got a shutdown corner like Champ saying Harrison was his toughest assignment and given him playing with Peyton. Shows how much chemistry they had during their time.
Bankerrz- i wish but fullbacks are very underutilized. pats started the trend for blocking fbs w develin, but consistent blocking fb’s are incredibly rare
Another great analysis. Excellent work. Thank you. Although I must point out the Cardinals Free Safety certainly helped Thomas on this one (3:37) by being more preoccupied with his helmet than the Saints offense pre snap & his tackling was atrocious. That kind of defensive play is a No No If you want to stop Thomas.
The only thing with Thomas is that the average depth of passes is typically less than 10 yards. I want to see him run different routes before calling him the best receiver. It's rare to see him run 20+ yard routes. Obviously, these short passes and slants are working so Payton will keep utilizing it.
Dude that's an excuse, it doesn't matter where the ball is hes going to catch it. He has caught vertical passes many times in his career. For example against the rams last year against marcus Peter's who he torched all game like he does every corner
@Trevor Gundrum AB, Evans, Julio, OBJ, and Hopkins can all do 20+ yard routes. We rarely seen Michael Thomas do the same. Again, I think it's more scheme related. Payton has no reason to do that since MT's slants have been unstoppable.
@@terencior1048 lol I don't remember saying "Hey Terencio R what do u think about Michael Thomas?"🤦♂️ U entitled to yo opinion but don't bring that stupid shit this way for attention. Good luck in the future lil bro.👍
Thank you brett I'm in my finals for fantasy playoffs and my opponent has Michael Thomas now I know he will have a bad week and my victory is assured praised be the kollman curse 👍🏼
@@yohey5015 I had Lamar jackson mark Andrews miles sanders and still lost because I tried to show faith in will fuller and mike William's in easy matchups over golladay and shepherd sitting on my bench imma lose by 7 lol but still won 2k in 2nd place so not tooooo salty about it lol
I'm a huge Saints fan, and for the life of me, I don't know how Michael Thomas keeps doing it. He's our only receiver. Teams come in knowing he's our only viable target. They plan to double him, or triple him, it still doesn't matter. And it's not like he's fast either. I'm used to speed being the most deadly aspect of a WR, but Thomas is not fast in the least, and they still can't cover him. It's insane. I don't know how many games I've watched when it's like 3rd and long, everyone in the world knows what we are going to do, and still Thomas gets open. How does that happen? I dunno....but he just seems to always get open. And those rare times when they are on him so tight it looks like they are glued to him, he makes the contested catch anyway. I can understand the physicality in tight coverage, he just out muscles you for the ball. But the many, many times he's just wide friggin open can only be explained by the fact that Michael Thomas reads a defense as well as any top tier QB. He reads your coverage, he sees thru any disguises you are trying to use, and he knows the weakness and holes in any kind of coverage that you are going to use on him. It's like the DB's are all physically gifted high school dropouts, and Thomas has a PhD in football. He's just way smarter than you, that's why You Can't Guard Mike.
