The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) re-arraigned Ismaila Mustapha, popularly known as Mompha before the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos. For alleged N32.9billion fraud on March 4 2020. Mompha who pleaded not guilty in all charges against him all this while recently escaped to Dubai with his family after spending 3 months in Nigeria. So the question now is, will he be going back to Nigeria any time soon?
If you don't leave under a rock, chances are you've heard about Skyman Mompha's Story. Mompha who is known for his billionaire and lavish lifestyle on Instagram was arrested on October 19, 2019, at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja while on his way back to Dubai after a little holiday in Nigeria.
He was arraigned alongside his company, Ismalob Ventures on November 25, 2019, for alleged N33 billion fraud extending to 14-count charge bordering on fraud, money laundering and running a foreign exchange business without the authorisation of the Central Bank of Nigeria. He pleaded not guilty, the father of two was granted N100 million bail on November 29, and as money wasn't his problem, he fulfilled the bail conditions on December 9, 2019, and was allowed out of custody.
In January 2020, EFCC accused him of procuring Ismalob Global Investment Ltd. and retaining in its account, a whopping sum of N32.9 billion between 2015 and 2018 from the Special Control Unit Against Money Laundering for 25 months.
EFCC also claimed Mompha who is not a financial institution or an authorised foreign exchange dealer in Nigeria or Dubai. And negotiated foreign exchange transaction which amounted to billions over the 25 months alone.
