@@taendt if you want to clear a huge area from trees as soon as Dark Age: 1. Start chopping those the first row of those trees 2. Lay a building's fundations on them, the chopped trees will disappear. 3. Cancel the fundations. 4. Rinse and repeat one row deeper each time.
@@yokatta-f you mean there is a hidden civilization if you restart the game at min 3 exactly and this civilization can build a rangeunit which has a +5 attack vs anti cavalry archery units and has 2 shoots where the second deals +4 rams because of melee shots on insta attack
had a few telemarketers call and give up recently "hello, we would like for you to participate in a survey, are you willing to help us out?" *alright* "do you prefer red or white wine?" *no* "what do you mean? do you drink more red wine or white wine?" *no* "do you not drink any wine?" *no* "not even once a month, or on special occasions?" *no* "do you really just not drink wine?" *no* "alright, good bye"
One of those quirky aoe2 features that actually might decide the outcome of a major tournament one day (if it hasn't already that is). I know Mbl used it last weekend against Sora Kuma in the deciding game of a bo3 in the RB3 qualifiers to allow himself to get a castle up right next to Sora Kuma's castle despite starting it later.
@@__________________________---_ not that I'm a fulltime viewer, but I have never noticed that and never heard a caster mentioning/noticing it in the last 8 years that I follow aoe-scene
@@T-West , yeah, of course. Also I just want to say a big thank you to you for giving us this much content every week. The AoE community is so big now! Also, is there still a way to get the original Age Of Empires Rise of Rome?
Doesn't the monk keep "loading" his conversion even if you change target? Meaning after a few seconds of spam (if the vills dont run out of his range) he will convert one instantly and this will stop?
You can move the Monk, click the Castle, or use the Stop hotkey to cancel the conversion. There is a 4 Monk second minimum during which you can keep doing this, then reset the conversion timer.
villager: fast let's build this castle and spam click so that those archers can't deny us monk: wololo I condemn you to run back and forth for the rest of your life
Nice! And I suppose a good way to don't allow the monk to convert a vill and lose faith (and lose the power to push away the builders) is to move him? Like you did in 1:20, reseting the convert time
@@T-West So when the monk is converting an unit and you click to convert a building, the convert time resets while the monk is walking towards the building? Or clicking the foundation of a castle just gives an error that resets the timer?
@@piatansfair Tasking a Monk to any action except for a convert, or pressing the stop key, cancels their convert. The timer will restart next time they begin converting. Building foundations cannot be converted, so if you right click it with the Monk, it will stop its current conversion. In generation though for completed buildings when the Monk has Redemption, right-clicking the building will not interrupt the conversion timer.
Interesting. There was a beta tester for AOC nearly 20 years named The Sheriff. I remember him doing this when micro-ing was in it infancy. We were all astounded on The MSN Zone because this was truly unique and unorthodox. I remember Ensemble Studios was impressed with his game play (they hired him to identify game play bugs). Not sure if this was originally intended in the game but I am not aware of an official patch that stopped it. I wonder if Viper watched an old rec.
Amazing video. The problem is if we have 1 Monk and they are spamming right click to the entire group of vills. We can prevent 1 Vill, then after conversion, attack another villager. The best is to have monks + ranged units
Archers: kill them all! Villagers: build to death! We can't be defeated! Monk: This is a sacred land, if you build a castle here, the Lord will punish you! Villagers: oh God, we even didn't know! Stop building!
I feel i remember on the original age of Kings or the original aoe1, i can't remember, villagers cancel the construction of the building when monk start to convert.
How much slower is spam clicking? Does it matter if the unit is actually being attacked? Are there situations where you shouldn't spam click even if some of your villagers are getting shot?
It's pretty significant, and gets worse the more Vils you have. It doesn't matter whether the Vil is being attacked, they end up building more slowly. Ideally you would click on the Villagers who got shot immediately after they got shot.
On top of the fact that it won't work, the time it takes them to palisade the back is yet another delay on construction, so the goal has been achieved either way
It works even better vs Teutons because you won’t accidentally convert anything since convert time carries over if you switch targets with a monk; so if you keep switching, you may unintentionally convert something (vs a generic civ). Whereas vs teutons you can spam the monk a little longer without anything being converted
Hey T-West, I have the AoE2 alpha version (dated probably early 1999). Do you want to try it and find something silly? Like fishing ships building buildings other than fish traps?
So in your last video about monks you showed, that switching targets does not reset the conversion time. This already had me confused at that time regarding this trick: How come you can almost indefinitely keep villagers away, and wont convert one eventually?
On an unrelated note, which u might be able to shed light on. In a 1v1 against an enemy with an identical unit, how can u ensure your unit gets in the first hit. Example villager vs villager. Assuming both right click on on another.
Is it possible to convert the foundations? or would you have to wait for the castle to finish? Crazy plan unfolding on keeping the monk 'charged' on the group of villagers and then stealing the castle as it is erected.
You must be able to convert buildings under construction!! Think about it, no more forward castles or barracks! Then if you send a worker you have to pay what you would lay to build it from scratch.
By the way, can you covert a castle? If you can, could you, if you had redemption researched, convert the foundation, if there are only a few villagers building it. In general, can you covert unfinished buildings?
Foward castles are dropped so often, though. So just adding a single monk into your anti-castle army and you’ll probably be at least 50% more successful in your defense.
