That's a very nice video on the subject of Griffintown but I don't see at what point during the video we're saving Montreal.

Downside of griffintown is the condos are generally small, with two bedrooms max. It makes it less attractive for families

Griffintown revival started in the 1980s with Parks Canada redevelopping the abandoned and disused Lachine canal into a Park (portions on east handled over to Montréal later). This started some conversions of abandoned industrial buildings into trendy lofts. This was also combined with arrival of Métro at Lionel Groulx and Place St-Henri.

I guess time will tell, but so far the urban development around the Old Port (and Griffintown more specifically) is just more bland condos that have been built in every city in North America. They seem to do little to foster/build a sense of community and exist more as a profit-making tool for the Developer (and subsequent owner). Many Montrealers I've spoken to about Griffintown think of it as a "suburban" mentality brought into an urban context, with more car dependancy and too many corporate businesses dominating the available retail space. I am interested to see how the redevelopment along McGill will turn out..

I live in Montreal and the general perception of the neighbourhood tends to be very negative. being considered the poster child of the "Torontofication" of Montreal. Personally, I'd never live there because my favourite part of living in Montreal is being car-free, and the fact that Griffintown's only accessible via bus and the Bonaventure station makes it a hard pass for me.

@@reclusivegamer3609 I have to agree. I've even heard Griffintown jokingly referred to as "Little Toronto".

Very interesting subject. Talking of Griffintown and transit, I would be curious to learn why the REM station isn't build there yet. Is it systematic neglect of the district? Or is there something more rational, although unfortunate, going on.

It is an issue of deciding on location. Initially, the plan was to put it at the peel basin with pedestrian flyovers from bother griffintown and the pointe, but now they're talking about separate stations for griffintown and the pointe so idk. Most of Griffintown is reasonably close to Bonaventure but the southernmost portions can use some help.

More good work. I had heard vaguely of Griffintown as a Montreal neighbourhood, but didn't know its history. At first I mistook it for a house in Hogwarts.

Not to be too nit-picky, but you can pronounce everything well in French, except for Jeanne-Mance? Just an observation. Great video. I love these.

In certain sentences for some reason switching from English to French seemed like a tongue twister to me … mais normalement j’aurais pas de trouble … je crois! 😂

Bro, half your facts are wrong, completely or partly. Some easy ones" Mary Griffin was a grifter. She didn't have the legal right to sell that land. She just conned people. 2nd, Cite Du Multimedia is in another neighborhood, called Faubourg des Recollets, with a different history. It was started in the 1990s and had no effect on Griffintown for decades. 3rd St Anne's Church was built in the 1850s - it had nothing to do with the 17th or 18th century Griffintown. In fact, there was almost nothing there until the defensive walls came down in the 1800s. I could go on. Can you read? Do you have access to a library? The Internet?

Less the architecture, I agree most of the new buildings are bland and lack soul… hopefully the work on the streets are good
