The guy who offered 35 dollars is not any better than a criminal. That is makes me upset. How many people has that place ripped off. I APPRECIATE SOMEONE LIKE YOU. You take the time to teach people. It is sad to see a place that's un ethical
After watching this i was mind blown that cats were or could be so valuable, the cats that are missing in my neighborhood brought in over 1.3K in a single night!! Crazy!! The best part is....there's like another billion neighborhoods!!! Thank you for showing us another avenue of income!
Om namah shivayah, we bless your existence. I was feeling bummed about replacing my cat, even with cheaper options available until this video. Now I see how I can recover my costs and perhaps make a profit. thank you
Why don't the scrap yards have these prices posted and updated daily? That would have to be easier than answering 1,000 phone calls a day. We have one near me that publishes estimate payouts of materials every few weeks, but that is it. I like this job because I don't have to talk on the phone all day.
Thanks alot man! Really good video. what catalytic converter buyers do with them? Do they just sell cats as well to the recycling company for more money?
It’s the precious metal content. A vehicle manufacturer is legally required to fit a converter which will meet emissions requirements for the expected life of the vehicle. Aftermarket parts manufacturers don’t face the same restrictions so an aftermarket cat is a universal fit part with far lower PGM content, usually just enough to pass a single emissions inspection before failing a couple thousand km later
I have quite a few vehicle's I've bought just for parts and now I'm selling vehicle's to the scrap yard. I never removed the catalytic converters. I'm removing unwanted vehicles now and I am cutting the cats off of them before selling the vehicle's now but I never sold any cats yet.
Is that bad that I do know what cat that is just by looks? Me and my pal bought trailer and towrig and last year we just bought every nearby cheap car for scrap. Delete cat and sell car forward or scrap it. Scrapped over 50 cars and made like 9-10k€ with scrap catalysts. Cars also paid as scrap like 3-4k€
$ 450.00 for the one piece of scrap ? Now you have people photographing them and listing them individually online, and people packaging and mailing them across the globe because the scrap price more than covers the cost of postage. Nuts.
Aftermarket cats are much cheaper than OEM because they contain far less precious metals. They’ll work as a quick fix to pass an inspection but they aren’t rated for 200000+km of operation
Salvage yards take the precautions to avoid buying stolen cats, but to be honest the people who steal cats just hammer out the ceramic dust and sell it through the mail, or they sell them to a guy that does, ive lived in a dozen different cities, and this is how they’ve been doing it everywhere for at least twelve years
@@thubprint your wrong, my friend buys catalytic converters at full market value, decans them, and the refinery pays more then the converter itself was worth, he does this full time as his only employment and has a company name “catcore”, he even sells hats and t shirts
It would be cool if grew up together and still good friends and hung out. You remind me so much of myself watching your videos gives me a sense of belonging.
To whom can I sell my cats to for top notch!! I want to cut off the middle man! I just got 400 cats, all legally. but I want to cut off the middle man. The junkyard pays me $100 for a small cat and $170 for a big cat, depending on the vin. I normally sell the cars with the cat on to the junkyard and they always pay me $250 or $300 per car. I know the cats are worth by far more! How can I connect to the main man? Pls help!! I want to make way more! I have 4 cats from 2 Land Rovers, I just found out that each are worth $800 a per cat and the junkyard gives me $200 per cat. They make a huge profit. Someone help!
I can't help but ask if you're in the Minnesota- north Dakota area. There's 2 ladies around here busted for theft of cats....sad thing is brother knows one of em
@@adamdaley8090 I'm living in dilworth. I missed the Sanford story. I laughed at them cutting one out and someone in the hood called in do to the noise. If you're interested brother and I have a RU-vid channel. We go as salty assassins.
Agreed, it’s an absolute mess. I still feel bad about the candy bars I stole as a kid, but taking on such a large scale from other people just trying to get by? Wild
Few things here.... Why people say Eco is bad is because they are high on some, low on others. You're either getting screwed or think everyone is out to screw you lol. Also you were trusted to get the best price for it by someone else, and what you did was support a big business (who paid less) vs a small business buyer? I'm actually disappointed that you'd rather support a big business vs a small one. 1 cat won't build a relationship with a large scrap yard, it will however take 40 bucks out of the pocket of the person who trusted you to get the best price.
Fair enough. The small buyer was out of town for at least another week so it was easy for me to bring it to the yard I go to several times a week. I still consider them a small business and the amount of times I’ve wasted their time asking way more questions than a normal client does to help me with a video, I value our relationship and it felt good to support them rather than some random fella I’ve never met. There are lots of details I choose not to include because they don’t add value to the viewer but I’m still happy with the route I went 👍
Some jerk cut off my converter, nothing worse than a theif who steals from their neighbors. Any scrap yard buying stolen goods should be charged too ! Lots of ways to earn an honest $$$, there's no need to be a theif, it only degrades the entire industry, makes the honest people look bad also, not cool ....
Nice! Yea for me it’s a really great resource and I’d be happy to use it if I wanted to go around purchasing them from people too. I’ve read plenty of comments criticizing it but in my experience it does exactly what it promises to do
Around here some teenagers aren't just swiping the converters; they're stealing the whole car. Some suburban idjuts are leaving their cars outside unlocked, with the KEYS in them. Forget etching the cat, first get the fools to lock their car doors.
What I learned recently after receiving a $92 ticket for trespassing in a dumpster at a local plumbing company is that catalytic converter theft gives honest metal recycler’s a bad name. 15 converters were stolen one night and because of that the owner does not want anyone on his property and upgraded security. Sad because I typically acquired a lot of copper and brass this company was trashing.
I've been arrested for trespassing in a bin too (K9 Security justifys its high bill by pretending they helped security when they didn't), yet I still do it because I don't feel guilty when I'm making an honest $ from Cu. The owners are being jerks by blanket banning all scrappers in the name of security, making honest scrappers sneak around like thieves in the night, which is more dangerous. The thieves steal from us too; do they think we like them? We don't control them & by treating all scrappers bad, the thieves have the incentive to never change.
If they ban you guys from going on the property for whatever reasons, fair or unfair it's the right of the owner. Feeling entailed to anything that you didn't produce is wild. Adapt or die it's a shady game. 😢
Just noticed that you hit 50K, man. Congrats! I believe you’ll quickly hit the next following milestones. And it’s all well deserved for the heart and dedication you put into each and everyone of these videos.
Thanks my guy! Planning on speeding things up for sure, and it’s a pretty cool spot to be in too. Channel feels healthy and strong, I think I can work with this 👌👌
I'm about to scrap 4 cars, didn't even cross my mind to cut the converters off of them for the extra money. Probably worth the total steel price alone if I'm guessing, cheers. Sidenote: content production is still phenomenal even way back, editing wise and camera wise I can tell a lot of behind the scenes is done to make everything cohesive and as nice as possible. Great work, all this is an invaluable resource to the public.
Thank you so much friend! I’ve always tried to make the sort of videos that I would actually watch, so I do try keep them snappy and interesting. Wish you the best on the payoff of those cars! Not sure I’d bother taking out the engine/transmission/wiring etc but the cat is absolutely worth doing separate 👌👌
Great work! It´s funny or not that alot of people cant understand that money is just laying around. Perhaps just one simple question away. I went to the wrong farm some week ago. Asked for metal anyway since I was there. That farm had alot. Sold that and went to the correct house for 2 more loads. Keeping my eyes open for Cats! "Thank you" was all I spent on those places. The best is to see how happy they got to get the extra space. And ofcause to se me work. Every load was about 500kg.
That’s super decent!! I’ve found that a lot with scrap, many people don’t have the time or resources to do it themselves so the scrap metal is just a problem that needs to be solved
Another great video as always! I actually took your suggestion a while ago and downloaded the ecocat app , like you said it provides an excellent “baseline” to know if your getting a fair quote from the local guys. Looking forward to the next vid.
I dont believe that app lol, it told me my cat is worth 244$, i putt it up on facebook, the lowest offer i got was 400 then went all the way to 950 for my bmws cat lol
This was fun, Thub. I love being me and knowing stuff about catalytic converters. Just adds to the mystery. Thanks. So, given that the middle man is offering $450, what is the total realized after all the precious metals have been recovered? By . . whomever does the recovering.
Honestly John, I would crawl under there and see if there’s any holes in the exhaust first. I replaced the cat in my first vibe but after I got the pipes out I found a big hole that probably was causing most of my issues
I have found that in general, the scrap yards that have "floating" prices on metals, especially non-ferrous metals, tend to pay fairer prices, and closer to market value, than the ones who have "set in stone" prices that seldom change...although, when prices take a drastic, sudden drop, they might be a little slower to drop their prices..SO...keep your eyes open on the market...
Hello my friends thank you for your interesting content, I have a catalytic converter that was purchased for a 2007 Lexus GS300 but the car got wrecked and totaled before the converter could be installed so it's brand new never been used, I live in Cincinnati Ohio any suggestions where I could sell it
Literally did the exact same thing in the exact same city at the exact same shops yesterday. How funny to now come across this video. Recon is also my go to scrap yard.
So you're telling me I can get arrested for selling a catalytic converter at an auto scrap yard? Does ever fkn auto part have a fkn number of sorts to trace? All I wanna do is buy scrap parts from the junk yard & turn a good profit. That's all. They claim America is a capitalist country, but I'm starting to question that logic when every form of capitalism can land you in jail.
Missouri USA here , I'm not normally a scraper however I have several vehicles I been trying to sell as fixer uppers and My 2007 e250 ford Cargo Van has or looks like it containes 3 catalytic Converters ( Not Sure yet ) so do I need to have the title presented at the salvage yard to sell them or ??
So a lot of that is regional, I know here in Canada it’s up to the provincial governments to decide how to prevent theft, but just to be on the safe side I would definitely bring proof of ownership if you can
Hey Thub im in the great old US OF A , And this is the first i have heard of/ watched a video of yours. Must say very captivating man real great stuff! I recently started acquiring cats. All legal methods I should mention I think and so thats how I stumbled upon your channel which i immediately liked and subscribed too! Btw I was joking about the great old thing in my first sentence, ya matter of fact place is turning into quite the shit show . Ya real fast too its awesome 😢 anyways good talk and cant wait to watch more !!
Cool! Glad you found me, I’ve been trying to learn everything I can about scrap and cats in general. I was fortunate to collab with a great cat buying company and made a whole in-depth series with them, I really learned a lot! It’s a great business, lots of people have done really well with it. The recent rhodium correction aside, I don’t see any way the PGMs can go but up
