In Australia, car mechanics are quite expensive as they charge a lot of money to repair. I had to renew my car registration and for that I had to get pink slip from mechanic.
Pink slip means car road worthy certificate. Mechanic check your car and if everything is working fine then you will get pink slip otherwise you have to fix the issue first and only then you will be able to get pink slip. Means, you can renew your registration and be able to drive your car.
