In this video I go through all the costs of replacing the rear axle and associated parts on my 2005 Citroen Berlingo Multispace. Hope this helps :) Join this channel to get access to perks: / @projectfearn
Nice one, i just got my recon axle bolted in and shocks, backplate and brackets on. I tried five berlingos in our local scrsppy for the abs sensor cable brackets which bolt to end of the torsion bats but only one car had them fitted and they were knackered. Hopefully get the job finished this weekend, weather permitting cos its getting done outside complete with all the usual comments from passers by.. My costs are similar to yours but with new drums also.
That's how I did mine last year; a decent trolley jack that you can balance the axle on and wheel it about is a great help. I found changing the axle itself was a dawdle, but the rear brakes and pipes created a lot of frustration, especially the springs for the shoes.
I've been offered a multispace and ofcourse it needs new axel , wish you were close would pay you to change the one on mine. Whats your thoughts on price Inc labour ?
I think you are looking at £500 in parts then easy the same again in labour. That's probably not them cleaning underneath, rust treating and undersealing either 😎
It's a lot of money to spend on such an old car. The labour will be the same again, possibly more so you're going to be looking at over £1000 and maybe even over £1500 on a car that's not worth much more so the logical answer would be not to bother. However, £1000 is 3 monthly lease payments to many people and their monthly payments never end and they'll never own their cars. So, if the Berlingo is serving you well, I'd be tempted to get the work done and keep it. You might have no bills for the next year. Cars cost money no matter what you get. I'd rather own an old car and have the repair bill every now and then rather than paying off a huge loan or even worse renting a car from a lease company.
