I don't think Singapore is a high trust society. It was low when Francis Fukuyama wrote his book on Trust. Only Japan was a high trust Asian country. Singapore depends on nudges from birth, punishment, draconian laws and no go areas of discussion or action for the public.
I put my kids in the local school as we wanted to them integrate into the society better. My children faced extreme racism in their primary school in the local school from not only their classmates, but also teachers. They were made fun of the way they looked, spoke or religious alignment. They have grown up not to trust others, thanks to the primary school. Despite several complaints to the principal and teachers, nothing happened. They grew up with being ashamed of who they are, look down upon their own race and ethnicity and we now have to deal with their insecurities as teenagers. I now question my own decision for having put them into the local school.

I think you've misunderstood the point of this video. It is not our trust the youth have to earn. And unless you're about to depart the earth a handful of year's time, the future is very much in all of our hands and not solely the youth.
In the kampung days, people could live in cohesion & harmony with each other. So what has changed? I feel that too many people overthink, over analyse, too anxious, and too self conscious. Basically, let’s work on building MUTUAL RESPECT first, without which trust cannot happen. And I agree with many commenters here who said trust must be earned. Definitely. And how? By having the decency to act responsibly, by being kind, by putting in our best effort, by putting the community above ourselves. Good character and good track record nvr fail to win trust. I think other things such race, your background (whether u come from elite schools, rich family) may even work against you if you hv bad behaviour and character.
I think this is inevitable.. in the modern world we are exposured to society vs reality. Trusting stranger is rly hard as ppl will be looking for themselves in their best interests. Like politics, ppl need to be on the down side in order for the other party to look good or better. Also the technologies and socia media now there are so much scams, we definitely cant trust anyone easily in this modern world. Maybe it would be different during the kampung period where everyone is just simplistic without any intentions.. Which explained the more educated or exposures we get the harder it is to trust.. Everything comes with a sacrifice and i believe in the Law of Equivalent Exchange. While it may seem complicated, the simple concept is absolute: something cannot be created from nothing. In order to make something, another thing of equal value must be exchanged and is then lost.
