We just finished a 17,000km trip in the old 2011 Colorado Supercab 2.1m tray. We have an ARB bullbar and a 140Lt fuel tank with a ali canopy. We are both big people and when we went over the scales here in Perth we were 10% over GVM. That was after we stripped back the load. Very easy to get the GVM wrong and one thing not mentioned is Criminal Liability and Criminal Negligence, one is against property and the other is aginst persons if you are at fault in an accident.

Great video......more Vanners need to look at operating light trucks as tow vehicles in lieu of 4WD's. My gut feeling when seeing most vans/4wd combos on the road is that many look overweight, especially the ones that hang 150+ kgs on the back of the van e.g. jerry cans and bikes.

Hi guys that was interesting, wow there must be a lot of 4WD / Van combinations out there over weight . I bet you are looking forward to getting out of the city.

I have to upgrade from our 4x4 MAN as we are about 600kg over our 12t GVM (fitted with 365/85R20’s) - the tyre width is our limiting factor under NHVR rules. New truck is a 8x8 and we will have a 24.3t GVM with 395/85R20. Plenty of spare capacity

Great tow rig is old Suzie, considering your whole set up (minus boat) is basically same price as a stock 300 series GR sport. Put the caravan on the 300 series plus the five of you guys and you wouldn't be legally leaving the driveway at home. I would have gone the air ride seats in Suzie though, well worth the money in my book.

What you didn’t mention either is because you’re over 4.5tgvm, you’re actually required by law to enter certain weighbridges when indicated to do so. Failure to do so is a one way ticket to court.

Nice video guys, except you missed one issue. Im betting that you guys have an overloaded front axle when you don't have the van hooked up. With it hooked up, you're just under, unhitch and remove that weight from right at the tow ball and that extra load is then transferred to the front axle and bingo, you're over. Very, very, very common issue with these size trucks, and not just the 4x4's. The 300 Hino's are even worse because the front axle limit is even lower than the Isuzu. I spent many, many hours designing tool box positions, etc with my work trucks because we were often only partially loaded (which would overload the front axles), but when fully loaded, the weights would be perfect because the weight of any load behind the rear axle effectively unloaded the front axle Not hard to fix because you have plenty of space to move weight around, as well as enough rear axle capacity to spare.
