Just a shout out. Had stepped into a very high cost contract and was able to pause and cancel the agreement. Jeff's video on 5 Window Buying Mistakes was checking the boxes for what our experience was. His channel is all kind of educating about the process. Major appreciation. 👍👍
I just got a quote for 6 impact windows and a standard sliding glass door for 41k. "Today's price" is 30k. Totally crazy. Meanwhile, friends had 10 impact put in for a little over 10k. It's like the wild West I swear.
I'm a plasterer by trade 36 years retired now, and the company woked for tought me quite a bit of carpentry my neighbors around me some of them had new windows installed I installed mine myself and my windows look 10 times better than what they did because I replastered my house first because when they first plastered it they cheated and cut back around the windows to much so my windows have a nice wide flat trim where all my neighbors just a cheap z trim white where I went with a nice brown in color to match the stucco there's where over 10 grand mine was 2500 .
Mine come out to like $8,000 for hiring someone to change just 4 large and one small (for the restroom) If you have mechanical skills, you can do it yourself. The windows will still run a bit expensive, $400-$600 each. You just need to look at the way the material you take off from the old ones and replace that material when putting the new windows. The rest is just filling out gaps and new mouldings to cover them. I've done three of my windows so far (one at a time). They look great, you just need to take your time. I did a lot of leveling so when it rained the water will drain in the right direction and not keep any standing water. The thought to start taking the window down is scary, but once you start, it becomes clear.
I called your office because I couldn't believe someone could be so honest when doing business, and I was happy when someone answered the phone. I explained that I just wanted to confirm that the office was real
Appreciate the pricing details. However confused a bit. Why would a million dollar 4 bed room house cost $150k for windows, but a 4 bedroom house that costs $300k only need $30k or less for windows? Assuming same house, same windows, same climate zone, just different markets? Yes I know there is different glazing and coating options, key for certain temperature areas, but asking just a general question? That was very confusing and sounds a bit suspect, (like window companies looking up costs of houses and making quotes based on that). Obviously California the rip-off capital of US will charge more, and Florida with hurricanes safety glass. But again, every thing same, shouldn't costs be same, and have NOTHING to do with cost of the house, but only the quantity of windows, quality of windows, and different local coatings needed ? Maybe clarify that next video if so, unless I am missing something.
Great question. Typically the more expensive a house is the more likely they are to have more windows due to having a large sf footprint, more windows per room, bigger windows, windows with "real" grids, wood interior, interior and exterior casing, paint work, and the existing windows are typically more difficult to remove. However, if ALL things are equal, so is the price.
How good are the wincore 5400 windows single hung double thick glass double low e glass with argon. Also is it really worth putting argon in the windows I was told no and yes what's your opinion the ones that said no was because it leaks out really quickly. Thanks for all the info you put out
I like WinCore products. They offer a solid, mid-grade product at a fair price. I'd ALWAYS suggest Argon. It only adds $20 +/- to a window and helps reduce sound transfer, condensation, and cold. Sure it will leak at about 1% per year. Argon has nothing to do with seal failures. That's a misconception.
Thank you so much for your referral list, Jeff. You referred us to Five Seasons Windows and Doors here in Denver. John (owner) was very easy to work with. They just installed the Anlin vinyl sliding glass door in our home and we love it. It was priced above the big box stores, but it is a higher quality product. My wife is so happy at how easy it glides on the rollers. The installation went smoothly. We had to wait around 3 months for the door to arrive from the Anlin factory in California. We appreciate the referral and will spread the word about Jeff's ljst.
That's great news! John is a great guy and we love sending people to him. I also have a lot of great things to say about the Anlin products. They make some really nice stuff.
Yes, that is correct. Part of what you pay for is the Pella brand name. There are products that are better for a slightly lower cost but they don't have the same brand name recognition.
I saw the OKNA windows when at the International Builder's Show this year. They look great to me at first glance but I have no idea how they perform over time. I wish I could be of more help. You might want to check out JeffsList.com if you're looking for a great window company near you.
I'm sorry you feel that way. If you take a look around you'll find over a hundred videos of us installing windows. Here's the one to get you started. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-m5wYhQCRN54.htmlsi=3jw66twLCnq_gilO
Hi Jeff. Are you familiar with Sierra Pacifica windows? Specifically Winchester windows. If you are familiar what is your take on them? Look forward to your feedback
SP windows have a lot of options. Especially exterior finishes. 74 colors I believe. Their wood/clad products have two levels of finish warranty. 2604 (10 yr)and 2605 kynar finish (30 yr). Depending on your situation I think they are best installed as a full frame window vs an insert replacement especially double hungs (sill angles). SP is a great company. I prefer the Marvin ultimate hardware especially on double hungs. Better looking and more historic aesthetic.
Enticing title to this video but there's little helpful information in it. For instance, are the prices he suggest installed cost, or just for the window itself? A few installed examples of windows on houses would have been nice.
I am originally from Michigan so I understand your question better than some. Obviously it's important to keep the heat in and the cold out in Michigan. Also a window that has a great condensation rating would be nice. I think we have several dealers in the Michigan area that we can recommend for a good window. If you're looking for a great window company near you please check out JeffsList.com
How much more do fiberglass windows cost? Is it worth it? Heard they are much more durable and don't warp when comparing to vinyl. Matt Risinger is a big believer in them and would love to know your thoughts about them as well.
I like fiberglass windows a lot. Unlike Matt, I do not get paid for my opinion. Matt happens to be a spokesperson for Marvin windows. I do think they make a great product but I do not think it's necessarily the best option in every case. If you are interested in buying fiberglass windows you should also consider the Pella Impervia product line.
@@HoustonWindowExperts thank you will look into that. Also appreciate the quick response. How do you vouch for the companies that makes it to Jeff's list?
So glad I found your channel! A company just left my house after a 4.5 hour (10am-2:20PM) estimation...I came so close to biting the bullet, so glad I held off...(Houston, TX)
Amsco windows are in the Ultra Premium category. Every dealer gets to set the pricing for their windows based on many factors including the marketplace, installation costs, company overhead, etc.
Hi, thank you for watching. We don't service any projects in Galveston county. We don't offer any windstorm approved products. Sorry that I'm not of much help.
Awesome! By the way, I started a website to help people locate a great window company near them. We may have someone in your area. Please visit TheWindowExperts.com
I'd avoid them at all cost. It's an average product at an overinflated price. I'd seek a local home improvement company or ask your friends and neighbors on Facebook for suggestions.
When you ask "how much?" 4 times, and each time the salesman goes into explanations... about grades and features you know the price is going to be crazy.. I have 22 windows in my home... 😐😭
I just got a quote from Renewal by Anderson for a sliding patio door and 26 windows of various sizes with their proprietary wood/vinyl mix frames including screens and installation for $171,000 and with discounts got it down to $103,000! Part of that "discount" was an efficiency discount that was only good for today. My jaw hit the floor. I thanked them for their time and showed them the door. Thanks for the generalized pricing info, it's appreciated.
The window itself can only do so much. If the wall is not insulated, if the window is not installed correctly, if you have vented soffits on your home, these and other things can contribute to sound transfer. I hope that answers your question
Unfortunately, I do not have any experience with champion except for the old products that are now being replaced due to poor construction. The new products may be terrific, I just don't know enough about it to give an opinion.
Hi, thank you for watching and for your question. I would love to review the Anlin window but they will not provide me with one. I'll keep trying. If you're looking for a great window company near you, check out JeffsList.com
@@HoustonWindowExperts oh no way! I wonder why? Based on my research, they have great reviews. I'm in CA and wonder if they only deal with CA at this time. Not sure though. Thanks for the website and I'll check it out.
I have a lot of people who ask me about their window. I have reached out to them on several occasions and they do not reply to my calls or my emails. I'm really surprised by that.
I love your videos. You stated that a good quality window could cost about 1000$. Would that price point include installation? Our house is 16 years old. Most of the windows have failed. I don’t know what happened to them. It’s not condensation. It’s like the window glass has been etched or something to that effect. The window frames are still in good condition. Would it be possible to just replace the glass?
You could replace the glass if that's the case. However, if you have to replace the glass twice you might as well buy a whole new window. Cheap windows use cheap glass and will continue to fail.
@@HoustonWindowExperts I also asked, if you quote a window price at say 1000$ or 2000$ is that price just for the window itself or does that include installation? If that price is just for the window what would a fair price for installation be? 10%, 20% etc of the window price?
Installation is always an additional cost and can vary widely by what needs to be done. A third floor window will require a lot more work than a ground floor window. Stucco is more difficult than brick.... There are many variables. I would imagine you should expect to pay at least $300 for a quality installation.
I just went with a local installation company in NJ and got 9 SH, 7 fixed, (5 of them with tempered glass) 1 slider, a 3-lite slider and a sliding patio door for 23k. Windows and door are Vanguard by Sunrise. I felt it was a fair deal for a quality product and far better than the 54k estimate I got by Renewal...lol.
@@gregmccann9643 I'm originally from Milltown NJ. Use to go Skating on Lake Hopatcong when I was 'Much Younger' 😏 ! Anyway, I hope you were as pleased with your company as we were with KEPO. They did a Fantastic job. We had the Entire House done. Windows, Front Door, Downstairs FR Door, Sliding Doors in the Kitchen, Casement Windows in The Kitchen, and a New Bay Window, (formerly a Bow), in The Living Room. ALL Marvin. We are very happy with the results. The Installers were wonderful 👍🏻. Hope the Same, for you, JaneLee - Now in Suburban Philadelphia 3/4/22 PS, A Huge thanks to Jeff 😊.
How much does the size of the window impact the cost, is there a rule of thumb for like cost per sq ft of glass? For example what would a 4' x 7' fixed Andersen composite or Pella impervia window go for in a new construction home?
Jeff, I have a 12 window house that I would like to replace with the ultra Windsor vinyl windows…ma ball park price at the pitching level in the Fort Worth area….? On a brick house one level…
You didn’t really make This clear so I wanted to ask. Do those costs your gave include install and removal of old windows or is they just the price per window?
We were days from submitting our window order to Windsor (Next Dimension Classic) when they got hit by an EF4 tornado. We are told to move on but aren’t sure who comes in 2nd to Windsor. Any suggestions? We are in NW Arkansas. Building supply company suggested Anderson 100 and Silverline (not impressed).
I am well aware of the tornado issue. It's likely to add about 2-3 months to your order. I'd hold out for Windsor if you can afford to. Otherwise check out Pella impervia or their vinyl series.
I’m assuming our builder, Marietta Construction in Siloam Springs, is installing them since I’ve not heard otherwise. We have decided to wait for Windsor although we’ll have to house wrap until the windows get here. I’m going to be a nervous wreck until they’re installed. Did you decide on Windsor?
I think they are really awesome windows. The majority of the ones that I have seen recently are coming out of Poland. The problem with finding them in the United States is the amount of Windows that you must purchase in order to make it cost effective. You can't place an order for just a few windows at a time, you must order a container full.
I'm not familiar with them. However, if all they have to offer is one brand of windows, and they give you any pricing gimmicks at all, you should probably avoid them. That's a sign that you're going to pay way too much for an inferior product. If you would like a recommendation for a great window company in atlanta, please check out JeffsList.com
Jeff, I've commented on a video or two of yours. The Windsor vinal window seems like the cats meow for me. Consider now I live in Minnesota. The quote I got was $24,500.00 for 9 slider windows and a slider patio door from a contractor that my siding and roofing contractor use. These would be new install type windows. When the siding gets replaced. What say you on this price? It's a bit moore than the 'sales artist' quotes if you buy that day. I don't want to cheap out my home for a 'convenience'
Thanks for watching my videos and for your question. We operate in Houston and the Dallas/Ft Worth area. However, we have great relationships with so many wonderful window dealers all over the. Country. I started a website where you can see if we have a trusted window company in your area. Perhaps I can point you in the right direction? Check out TheWindowExperts.com for a dealer near you! All the best! Jeff
I'm sorry, I am not clear about your question. Are you asking me how to take one out or are you asking me if we do that? We don't take Windows out from inside the house. We do it from the outside
I sent my info to Jeff’s list, but no one message back. Just trying to make sure I get a company that cares about it’s customers and the quality of their work.
I followed up with my team and we do show that have sent you some correspondence. I'll have it resent today and you may want to check your spam folder in then event it ended up there. Thanks, again.
Thanks for your update, it's such a thing that people really have to consider too many facts, and all sales need customer make a decision on a short period of time. Fair game is a good one that should happen.
They do not. Labor will vary based on the installation requirements. Obviously a window on the third floor would cost more to install than a window on the ground floor. Thank you for watching and your question.
Jeff, congrats on the success and thank you for putting together so many great videos. It's wonderful that you have explained the slimy techniques that tarnish our industry. We have been in business in Southern California since 1999 and we are also a family business that prides itself on taking great care of our customers. The long road to success is the best and serves our customers well. Good job and keep up the good work.
What i've been finding is 20 windows and a door, folks are trying to get $35K-$40K. that's padding on the windows and crazy labor charges :) If my Katy house needs some windows, i'll be pinging you, but currently living in California.
