Hey man, small editing meshes tip. If you open the supported STL's in blender, you can select the main mesh with L and then seperate it with P from the supports to get the unsuported mesh.

I love 3D printing, you can get so much out of 1 liter of resin. Nice showcase mate, enjoyed it a lot way better break down then I can ever do.

Exactly! Depending on what you're going for, you can really pump a hell of a lot of models out! Thanks for the kind words, love your vids too. Always a fun watch :)

Awesome, your math can improve by fine tuning your machine with your resin. Also printing bases/toppers is a very costly option in time and resin, given a pack of 20 plastic round bases cost less than 3 dollars.

That's the best part about the hobby. There's heaps of different options for a range of needs and prices. So there's always something to suit 🙂

And then you print a Warlord Titan for 200$ worth of resin rather than the 2000+$ for the original.

You didn't "waste" 400 ml of resin. A good chunk of the fluid is just to suspend the actual polymers. Like an oil. Only a fraction of the actual fluid can be made into plastic.

How in the hell did you manage to not change the FEP once I’ve damaged mine from failed print debris like 6 times now

I managed to nail down my support settings and basically got no fails or misprints. Basically a very long process of trial by error. 🙂

Clean the fep often, even if you dont get any fails but it feels "rough" (hard to explain) but run the screen exposure and peel off a layer, sure it can be a bit wasteful but a handful of screen peels is cheaper than a fep normally, and alot less time than changing the thing

Let's See my brother has a printer he has a wash station and a cure station So i'm not spending anybody on that, I found every single model I needed for my Gray nights For free The only thing I paid for is the resin And the paints used And the epoxy Putty I used with blue stuff I already had To make copies of the bases needed 32 and 40 mm bases Buck 25 paint From the dollar store 2 pack of Super glue from the same-store For the same price Got like three of those Wood glue From local hardware store To attach the sand onto the basis 5 bucks Sand for bases I got For free from the beach Just had to bake it in my oven and then put it through A thing of wire mesh to clean out any particulars Primer and clear coat 7 bucks a piece At the hardware store 1000 point army About 90USD altogether Because I also had to buy more of the alcohol To clean the miniatures But because I cat sat for my brother and his friend 4 5 days In a row I didn't have to pay a cent For anything other than the paints and glues And epoxy Putty So yet roughly 35 out of my pocket.

In the fact that all the files I want Other than a female purtorabo For when I start my iron Warriors Is free At that point I'm really just paying for the resin he's using Because even if you're printing free models Just look at what they Could cause if you were buying the official ones Because I could spend roughly a $160 On a single combat patrol Equally roughly Five hundred Points for battle Or I could spend a little less than 90 bucks Or I could spend a little less than 90 bucks And get a full thousand points Worth of them And that would be 320 minimum If I bought official Not including paint not including glue Not including materials for the basis But when I can spend a third of the cost And get all the models I need And still have money for paints and glue And some basing materials With that 1000 points my brothers Printer already paid for itself And my brother has 2000 points of spacewolves Five hundred of it is official models And he took his home printed army To adaptecon A few weeks ago and he said people couldn't tell the difference Between the official and his printed ones

I have been gifted a Ender 3 V3 SE this past Christmas as a present from my older brother and gifted a Mars 2 Pro 2 years ago, as well as Purchased my own Ender 3, and was given 2 Ender 3's after 2 people stopped trying to use them and just threw them at me. To this day, in PLA I've only printed: a Warlord Titan, a Warhound Titan, am in the process printing a Heirophant, several, several, several buildings and terrain, and some projects for school or daily usage (school one was me saving my older brother's Senior Design Project, long story short: their 3D printing labs failed them as they had to ask for a part to be printed and they never did, and when they finally did 2 months late, they didn't print it properly i.e. wrong scale). In terms of points I've printed in PLA about 5.5k points In Resin I've printed: Way too much random garbage, way too many D&D and Kriegsmen models, and some commissions I sold such as a Hermione Chibi figure I also painted up, etc. In Resin I've probably printed about 1,000 points of Kriegsmen and an equal amount in D&D models (for scale, not price) To date I've spent: $223.73 on the original Ender 3 (I got the upgraded one which came with a glass bed by default and some goodies) ~$350 on PLA (Note: This is actually around 40 kg of PLA, however I received 12 kg from taking advantage of a deal from AddNorth 4 years ago for $100, and a nearby liquidation shop sold me 2 boxes of 6kg silk PLA (24 250g spools in every color) for $15 ea, $30 all in, about a year ago, on top of which I received a few kg here and there as thanks from people when I was in University as I was typically called upon for aid and just to go out and fix their printers for them. I didn't really want money in exchange but they felt bad so they usually paid me in PLA which I was way too happy to take) ~$40 on Resin (Again, Note: I received about 4kg for free from the University's MakerSpace as I was the "Chief Maintenance and Operations Officer", our MakerSpace was purely community led and had a heirarchy which had about 7 runs in the ladder. The 1st rung is President, 2nd is VP, 3rd was comprised of 4 "Chief *title* Officer", 4th was regular officers, 5th were special members, 6th are members of the MakerSpace and 7th were regular students, I handled maintenance and day to day ops of every piece of equipment we had, from the lathe, to the 3D printers, etc. Point is, I was given 5kg of super old resin that had been stored and forgotten, the MS had been given about 30 kg of resin from a sponsor with 3 types of 10x 1kg bottles, and about 24 kg of 6x 2kg bottles) $5 for 1 box of (still 25% full) 100x blue nitrile gloves $20 1x gallon of 90% IPA (pre-pandemic pricing) $12 4x bottles of IPA $20 on paper towels (had to get nice paper towel rolls as cheap ones would get fuzz everywhere) $200 on stl files (about 98% of the files I have used or printed were free on Thingiverse, including all terrain, the Warhound and Heirophant. More recently I just dropped $80 on stl files for castles and tiles so I included them, but they were a KickStarter that just delivered 2 days ago so I haven't even had the chance to use them yet) $120 on a wash & cure station and I believe that just about wraps it up. Total price: $990.73 USD. If we include the price of the gifted printers, the total is $1329.60 (we got them on discounts because I friends regularly ask me when is a good time to purchase printers and what to purchase, I just unknowingly didn't realize I was offering advice on the printer that I would want and when to buy it for myself, so Ender 3 V3 SE for $159.99 on black friday, and the Mars 2 Pro for $189.99 on a Christmas deal with a bottle of free resin) Total Value: Well... The Warlord alone is "theoretically" $2,500 + tax, the Warhound is $700, the Heirophant is $500, the sheer terrain I've printed to date is probably valued at $500, so I'd say purchased and not 3D printed the value is closer to $1200? I've printed about $1,200 worth of Death Korps of Krieg, and about I'd say $250 worth of D&D models (nearly same model count as Kriegsmen, just Krieg are morbidly overpriced) So: a bare minimum of $6391.25 as I still haven't accounted for: Dungeon Tiles, DIY fun, proto typing things, 3D printed car parts, Diorama doo dads, and commission pieces. :) So I'm currently at a "profit" of around: $5,400.52 pretty neat I'd say :)

I love printing models. I love the different looks and custom models. I can say I consider the cost of a new FEP and SCREEN into all my printing "costs" If my screen is recommended at 400 hours and i print a round of models that takes 40 hours i take 1:10 of my screen costs and factor that into my costs along with all the things you considered as well. Even tho the screen may out last the 400 I've had others not last the 400. But after initial investment returned its still way cheaper to print. BUT ONLY if you enjoy 3d printing. if not and you just want models. find a printer to do it or buy plastics. Ive been printing for about 5 years now and I still buy GW models regularly if its one like! Such as Angron and the new berserkers.

Same here. It is definitely a hobby in itself and not for everyone. Especially betweem the toxic chemicals and mess that can come from it. I agree that it's definitely not for everyone. I still regularly buy plastic kits and love the experience of building those kits. Similar to how I enjoy building Foregworld resin kits as something different. There's so many avenues to go down with in the hobby and it's amazing having so much choice.

It’s not about the material cost, files and things that can’t be reused alone. There is energy cost too and you have to count working time as well (at least at minimum wage).
@PrintdAus
@PrintdAus 4 месяца назад
To put things into perspective, I've run 3 printers and a wash/cure station for 18 months at our place, and it's only costs $63 total. That's with them basically running 24/7. To put it into perspective, my PC has used $200+ worth of power in the same amount of time running for less hours. Regarding direct labour, it takes me roughly 3-4 mins total per print, all inclusive, in comparison to mouldline removal/clipping parts, which takes me anywhere from 1-2 hours for a standard Space Marine Squard If I were charging myself in a similar vein to printing, would I consider the cost of fuel to get to the hobby shop and charge myself an equivalent minimum wage to process the plastic models? Each comes with their own costs/additions, and I'm not more in favour of 1 or the other. I'm just trying to provide a mostly unbiased and open-ended opinion with enough information for people to make their own decision how they should hobby. I'm not trying to hide anything from peeps, or persuade them one way. I'm just sharing the hobby I know and love. 🙂

My biggest complaint about 3d miniature printing is that the actual modelers themselves, while stellar artists, ignore a lot of QoL stuff. Like, there're so many stls that would print much easier and at a higher quality if they were broken down into subassemblies of two or three.
@PrintdAus
@PrintdAus 4 месяца назад
I do notice this a lot too, it can be pretty common to see designers making models with no consideration to the printing, painting or assembly process. I've found the biggest issue for me is poorly designed models that have weird geometry that make portions of them unprintable or parts that are realistic but way too small. I.e. Poles, banners, spikes that look cool but are super thin when printed. I would definitely say that 3D print design is in a bit of a Wild West era where everyone is now jumping on the bandwagon.

Honestly have no idea why you would throw in the price of a brand new printer and wash station into the calculations i get what you're going for but that's ridiculous. That's like making a video about how much in Gas it costs to drive from Toronto to Ottawa and then saying "First you need a $57,000 Ford Mustang" like what!?
@PrintdAus
@PrintdAus 4 месяца назад
I can see where you're coming from. I came into this video from the perspective of how much it would cost to get up and running from having absolutely nothing and wanted to be 100% transparent with what's involved. If a wash and cure station is something you don't personally need then you can always subtract that from the starting costs. I wanted to create a video where all the cards were on the table, since a lot of 3D printing videos like to gloss over most of the extra costs and only focus on the "I printed an army for $1.50" aspect of hobby. Instead of being 100% open about everything involved.

I think 350 is more realistic. I recently calculated it while helping an artist with something. stop buying that siraya tech garbage, not a knock on you but 12k 8k 16k is all marketing garbage. Sunlu is 20/kg and perfectly fine. Supports can be removed from models with blender, edit -> vertex -> seperate by loose. Your modeler was very unprofessional by not providing stls and presupport fails either indicate bad settings or bad presupports, in this case, im inclined to say the latter. I did podcast this though, so i didnt see much of the fails visually.

Hey Kira, believe it or not, I've actually been using Siraya Tech resin for a few years now, well before the 8K/12K craze/marketing. You are correct, though. There is no truth to the 12k/ high-resolution resin marketing from most companies. I have also switched over to Sunlu High tougness after posting this video, and it's what I use for my personal printing as well as my business. Thanks for the support removal tip! I'll give that a shot next time I'm in a sticky situation. 🙂

@@PrintdAus common wisdom in my circles is that you cut regular or abslike resin with tough to make it go longer. Something like 25 percent. Unless this is some abslike2.0 and not 70 dollar tough resin. Marketing really is like that these days
