There are a lot of factors that go into a siding replacement. So at 2,500sqft you'd be looking at anywhere between $40k-$60k. It is hard to be more precise without knowing any of the factors that can affect the cost. If you have a lot of straight lines, current siding in great condition, and don't plan on any additions or customizations you can expect to be on the lower end of that range. I hope this helps. Fiber cement siding requires maintenance. Fiber cement siding absorbs moisture. Fiber cement is difficult to install. Fiber cement is not the most environmentally friendly siding. Fiber cement is not energy efficient.

It's hard to know all that is planned for your project. We are not familiar with Wood Siding in California as we specialize in Fiber Cement Siding in Texas so prices are going to be different. The national average for Wood Siding appears to be $9 per square foot. So just from that alone the quote can seem a little high, but you might want to ask your contractor how they came to that price? They could be replacing the OSB under the siding or replacing insulation, both which could add to the project total. There could also be price differences depending on the quality of the wood that the siding is made out of. A high quality contractor should be able to detail all that goes into their quote and provide you with everything in writing as well as any warranty information. That way you can be sure to know exactly what your $1,600 is buying.
Curious did you ever pay someone to do it? I also live in NorCal and got high rates so might go into DIY mode 😅. Mines are just one side of wall and only two windows.
Thanks for this great video - I am a small business owner, doing everything by myself so far and have been trying to figure out ways to quickly get estimates to customers. It takes up a lot of my time on the weekends and evenings. After watching your video though, and my experience with vinyl siding, the going rate for vinyl per square seems to be between 600-800. This is just in residential remodeling, in Kentucky. Im not sure where you are located at, maybe my numbers are way off, but I tend to lose all my estimates if I go higher... What you mentioned at 2000 sq ft, or 20sq, at $1000-$1200 a sq, seems high, am I wrong?

We are in San Antonio so our harsher climate could be a factor in the higher cost. Also the market, as I'm sure you know, fluctuates so quickly when it comes to remodeling costs that it is hard to nail down a quote that will not be immediately outdated. With that said, our goal is to provide a ball park price to educate and prepare anyone looking to have new siding placed on their home. This is such a great video on the cost for different siding replacement. I’ve looked a lot online but many sites have the prices way lower than what a real project should cost. It seems many out there don’t consider the actual cost of waste removal, all the trims around the house, etc. In the end the overall cost can easily double to the “installation” cost of the siding. I’m interested in knowing about composite/pvc siding like the Everlast and Celect, are they more expensive than fiber cement?

That's awesome!! You are right, it can get expensive. If you don't have the skills to do the task yourself, then you have the added cost of labor, warranties and painting. So you have to take all of that into account when trying to find a professional to install siding.
Great question! We usually suggest having the windows done first. That way everything with the window can be lined up correctly for the siding to fit perfectly. If the siding is installed to the old window, and the new windows stick out further then it could require extra work to trim the siding. Which could result in extra cost and headache for you. Be sure to talk with both renovation companies and make sure they are aware of the full scope of your project so, hopefully, they can set each other up for the best possible outcome for your home. Haha, of the FIVE important factors you missed one of the most important. If it's a big two story which means scaffolding and LOTS of it. A big two story means it eliminates easy access to half or MORE of the entire project. Sidebar - vinyl is garbage and should never be installed anywhere in hail country. Here in Kansas, if you make the mortal error of installing vinyl to save money it will probably have to be replaced with 5-8 years when the big hail storm comes through.
