Question for you guys, I just recently bought a converted van and want to drive it to cali and ship my car to peru and do a huge circle around the continent for hopefully a year(seeing if I'd want to move out of the US). im budgeting 10-15k(10k for the trip and then the rest for shipping (probably do the trip in a year cause I'm spending a bit of money rn to try and have a online store so I can have money coming in)). With the context are there any places where I could park for the night? Would I need to get insurance? How good/trustworthy are the mechanics there? Should I reach out to travel guides or just kind of wing it (like I'm planning)? Where are some nice hidden scenic places? What language is more important Spanish or Portuguese?(I think Portuguese since most of my trip would be in Brazil) Are there laundromats in South America? What places would you avoid/Where would you go to spend your days? Thanks for your input!

Thank you so much for the detailed breakdown. I appreciate you taking the time. Considering how much people from 1st world countries earn and spend on a monthly basis, the total amount seems like a no brainer. Especially because you're getting so much life and experience out of it. Still though, it helps to save money wherever possible. I now feel more confident for a trip I'm planning maybe early next year. Sending love from Vancouver, Canada.

This is such a great video! My partner and I will be doing a very similar trip late next year. I was wondering how much planning and pre booking of accommodation/ travel you guys did before going? We kind of like the idea of having a rough plan for maybe a week at a time, and then figuring the rest out as we go. So hearing how other people plan their trip is always super helpful.
@SomethingToRemember
@SomethingToRemember 11 месяцев назад
Thanks a lot for your comment, great to hear it’s helpful! ☺️ That’s exactly what we did… We generally booked our accommodation on Air B&B around a week before we would arrive. Of course we had a general idea of what we wanted to do a few weeks in advance, but in terms of actually booking somewhere it was usually around one week 😊 The one thing we heard of that apparently you need to book well in advance is if you want to do the W or O treks in Torres Del Paine as the camps sites can be booked out - we didn’t do those but that’s what we heard through the grapevine! If you have any other questions feel free to ask 😊
@jackwachter8973
@jackwachter8973 11 месяцев назад
@@SomethingToRemember Yeah that’s awesome, as we’ll be working with a fairly similar budget/ time frame that you guys based your travel on. One other question I had was based on travel between countries, did you opt for bus over flight travel in South America when moving from country to country? Thanks heaps 🥳
@SomethingToRemember
@SomethingToRemember 11 месяцев назад
@jackwachter8973 We took as many buses as we could as flights within the continent can still be pretty pricy… But you may have to take the odd flight here and there to save time. For example, we flew fro Buenos Aires to Ushuaia and then from Punto Arenas to Santiago because bussing all the way down to Patagonia & back up would take ages! 😅

Wow this is very useful, thank you for sharing this info!✨✈ I will start an itinerary in 10 days, starting from Peru and will pass from Argentina too. I have a question, because I don't know anything about Western Union. Do you need to have made an account, a card or something else before visiting Argentina in order to use the blue dollar rate that you mention?Or you just enter directly a western union office once you are there and use your bank card directly somehow through their service? Thanx in advance!

Thank you so much for giving an idea of the costs there! We will buy a van in Chile😬 as that seems to be the only country where a tourist can buy a car/van. That will be expensive but we expect to sell it for a good price too. So we could save on going out for lunch/diner. Save on flights and trips. Save out on hotels/air b&b's/hostels. Wonder what the gas (benzine/diesel) prices are? Thanks a lot for the tips about money... cash/cards...! Bringing back the 5704 to the costs a month: is 1140 is 285 a week is 40 a day... We have been traveling through southern europe for the last 3 years... unpossible to live for that money in our camper/ car+rooftent due to the prices of gas... and food! Not even taking the costs of camping/camperplaces in this story!

Glad it was useful! Make sure it’s possible, we’ve heard that it’s hard to get motorbikes across the border without residency. Double check everything 😊 Besides, we don’t think it will be cheaper as the continent is massive. You can google up to date petrol prices😊

@@SomethingToRemember - Thanks for the feedback. It's good to know these small things which can sometimes have big impacts on your experience. I have a Revolut account too, I'll look into it. Not sure if there's already a video, but how's the experience with Revolut? I used it a lot during my travels to Mexico, but I had a bad experience with double charging all the time and it was very frustrating... But that was 3 years ago, so hopefully it's all good now. Would appreciate to hear your thoughts. 😌

Hello travelers! First off thanks for the helpful videos! We'll be traveling through Argentina in a few weeks and your videos are the first I've heard mention of the Western Union/blue dollar rate. Honestly I'm a bit confused as to how it works. With the Argentine Peso so unstable, I had been told to carry US dollars because they hold their value whereas the peso can fluctuate a lot day to day. Is there a benefit to paying in cash with pesos rather than US dollars? Are dollars not as widely accepted?
@SomethingToRemember
@SomethingToRemember 9 месяцев назад
Thank you! Glad you found it useful! The only place we saw signs saying "we accept dollars" was in tourist hotspots like El Chalten in Patagonia, and even then they would give you your change back in Argentinian Pesos. Their currency is very much Argentinian Pesos, not dollar or euro... We spent about 5 weeks in Argentina, the rates were up and down a little bit but not enough to really notice. Bottom line is that you definitely need to use Argentinian Peso cash and the best way to access it is by using WU😊

Great informative video thx for putting the time in on this. I was wondering how the cost of the countries you visited might impact the sequence of countries to visit if you were to plan this trip again. For example is it better to land in a really cheap country like Bolivia or Ecuador first? Also you may not know this but does taking Gold (coin or bar) and changing it for cash work?
@SomethingToRemember
@SomethingToRemember 8 месяцев назад
Hi, thanks so much, we ara so glad to hear it☺️ If you fly to Ecuador or Bolivia, your route will probably require a flight which will be more expensive😊 we really don’t know about gold but doubt it will be easy to “exchange”😊
