TGE TV This 996 series is chaos, you have bring something new to the table. I agree with everything you have said, if that’s something you want to know. Just call it “Modern Classic” to avoid those that can’t make their own conclusions. Chaaaaaaoooooos!
Buy what make you happy fella. Ignore the monkey's. Strangely you look happier and more comfortable driving this than some of the very expensive cars you own.
Nothing but support and thumbs up from my side here. Congratz on the purchase, I hope you'll have lots of fun with it, make lots of good memories. And I'm looking forward to all the content still to come about your 996.
youre the only youtuber I can listen to waffle about for 20 minutes with a go pro strapped to the dash. Lad this is top quality. Transparency is crazy, entertaining to hear your take on having your first modern classic. You are getting top notch at this youtube thing.
Spectacular chate mate. Love how people are still making so much NEW content on 996/997. Saw a GORGEOUS driver's 996 (6 spd, cab, sensible upgrades, mint, PCA owner) for $15k USD the other day. Was gone within 24 hours. If you pay attention the deals are still out there.
I fully rate this purchase, these were the 911’s of my childhood. I would say you need to do a comparison with STG’s 360 which would be really interesting with a similar era of car.
Tom that was a great choice 996 ok some people don’t like the lights so what those are going for a good price and they are bullit proof as far as being reliable and reasonable to maintain. I like the color and the fact you putting in the shop to get a little facelift is a ok. Can’t wait for the review when its done. Cheers Lad.👋🏽
The thing I love the most about you is you do whatever you want. I think it’s brilliant, you have bought an amazing car and from what I’ve seen on Instagram sales are soaring!!! I love it and i mean how much car have you got for the money. Porsche have made a epic car. Congratulations and enjoy it!
I've always been a great believer in buying what you want regardless of what anyone else says. They are entitled to their opinion but at the end of the day its your money. If that C4S in that gorgeous blue colour, makes you smile as you walk towards it and when you sit in the drivers seat you know this going to be great drive then its the car for you :)
I have had my 996 C2 Tiptronic since 1998 and it is coming up to 21 years old. It is Zenith Blue with the amber indicator lenses and looks great. I did change the exhaust with sport cats and lowered sport suspension in 2002. I love it and hopefully I will have it for another 20 years.
I'll be honest the 996 is not my favourite 911 but each to their own on that. Yours, however looks like a really good and well looked after example. I love the colour and I'm actually on pistonheads right now looking at them. Bang for buck you can't get a better car. I want one!
@@jwb4bb It's never been my favourite looks wise, but that's subjective and like I said each to their own. It's also quite a lot bigger than the 911's that came before it, you could argue that inevitable as cars always get bigger but still... They have reliability issues, some serious like the IMS/RMS bearing Tom has check if it's been replaced, some not so serious. And it's the first of the water cooled 911's, I'm not a purist that thinks all 911's should be air cooled, have mechanical steering, and not be turbocharged, but I do love the old school rasp of a water cooled flat 6.
Great buy, really enjoyed your enthusiasm for the c4s. I have the same car in silver with 175k miles and still going good, these are very strong well made vehicles. Keep up the good work.
TGE, this is likely one of your best purchases. New cars are fun and cool but this one has character. Approachable not too ostentatious, visually appealing. It makes a great statement.
Honestly, just the B roll of you driving at around 1:10 says it all. It just seems the perfect mix of exotic looks (yes, despite its age. It's still a 911 after all) and driveability. Not overpowered, not overdamped. Yet still enough of both to make it a ton of fun. This might be one of your best cars, mate
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. That's Chaos. You made me smile. Bought back memories of the dinky toy I wanted in the sixties. But seriously love the Porsche and taking it for some TLC. No crisps in the car young man. Cheers.
Nice one mate! 911's are great aren't they, i like the spec of yours, matching belts are a nice touch, i was lucky enough to get yellow belts to match the PCCB's on my 997.2. About to get my bumper filled and painted too, so much cleaner without. Come out for a countryside blast this summer, meet up at Colchester OPC in September is usually a good turn out
First thing I noticed was the lack of background noise even with roof open. Surely Acton Coachworks can recommend a company to tidy up the upholstery!? Hope A.H hasn’t ruined the Jimny while moving apartments. Chaos! 🤪🤪🤪
Great video. I'm an owner of the '02 Targa, the same colour as yours and couldn't be more happy with it. No problems whatsoever and have found my car to have appreciated in the two years since I've owned it. I put in a 2-din Pioneer stereo in it and relocated the climate control unit to lower on the dash and got some carbon pieces from macarbon (these guys are awesome btw), it really improves the interior of the car. Quick tip if you own a '02 or earlier, you don't need any conversion modules to hook up an after market stereo. It's really the only thing that the car needs to make it livable by today's standards.
Its a classic, with every incarnation of 911 that comes, the former naturally becomes a 'classic'. The 996 4S is a great 911 and I'm happy its on the channel. Safe driving Tom...
Great video lad. I'm looking forward to seeing your journey with this over the next few years! Keep up the good work. P.S. I'd rather have your watch though 😂
996 definitely is/ will be a classic, great choice lad, keep churning... where are your sunglasses from TGE-couldn’t make out the brand? They are on point
You can have the cracks and scratches in your leather filled then resprayed so they look like new. Plenty of places around London and surrounding areas I'm sure
Great buy looking forward to this content I have one also. There is no c2s the s is in the 997. Look at the center console delete and a gundo hack exhaust. Would love to see it going to hartech
I sold a 1999 996 a few years ago with 175k miles and I still see it flying about. Now I have a 996 turbo and a 997. Everyone says the 996 is ugly but I love it. Fair play to you for going for a cheap ( by your own admission) car
Great video Tom - always like you more serious informative vlogs. Love the 996 specially the 4S, don't get why people call it ugly and all the fried egg jokes - I think they look great, been thinking of buying one for a while (guess I'd better hurry up). Remember to give us an update on the F12 - I cant remember if its already been PPF'd, if it hasnt take us along for the journey same as you did for the black one. Cheers Tom - Happy Easter mate..
Oval egg headlights for the win! They just represent such a good value for money. I also made a video which shows the depreciation curves for the 996 models and they definitely bottomed. The turbo, however, shot up in value like crazy as you mentioned and I think they already saw most of their appreciation. The 4s is just the sweetspot. Enjoy the car.
Zrzze Zolo the 997 gts was the last “normal 911” without turbos (the 991.1 was also naturaly aspirated but not even close to the 997 in driving experience since it did not have a good feedback from the wheels to the driver) so there for i think the 997 gts will climb in price
Absolutely stunning motor mate, probably my favourite of yours in the garage except for the T. Please don't feel the need to justify why you buy your motors. The folk in the comments talking negatively about this are probably your under 16 year old followers. Most young folk think if its more than 2 years old it's shite. They just don't understand the appeal yet so I am glad you've finally got an older motor in the garage, hopefully changes people's attitiudes to older cars.
Over 15 years is getting into classic territory. Have you considered a Carnewal exhaust conversion, thus retaining the Porsche exhaust? Sounds great on my 997 GTS!
I got a 996.1 C2, with a wire throttle and dual row IMS. I had to wait from 10 years old to 53 years old before I got my 911. One could assume the expectations would have over grown in that time - but in fact I was pleasantly surprised. It is such a lovely, reactive car and a lot of value for money. The only other cars that produce this smiles/miles/cost -ratio are probably Miata and S2000 but this one is a Porsche. I put the Bilstein B16/PSS10, I got Eibach AR-bars but I switched the front one back to OEM because the car became a bit too darty in grooves. I also took the engine out the first winter, put on an LN hybrid IMSB just to be sure. The original was in mint condition. Did the RMS at the same time as well as a new water pump and cooler thermostat. Ive driven now about 30 000 km without any troubles of the car. I got now the RS-size OZ Alleggeritas (8.5*18 + 11*18) as well as the OEM. Two sets of tyres PS2s and Bstone SO2 (bougth from a 996.2 C4S). It is such a joy to me. Makes me feel huge gratitude towards life. After my close ones the best thing in my life ever.
Nah I understand your frustration with 720s. It's my favorite supercar honestly. I haven't really looked too much reliability but you're entitled to your opinion of course! I can't afford a 720s yet but I'm working on it :) Loving the back to back vids by the way
Love the 996 I had a chance to buy one 5 years ago and I didn’t and I’m gutted that I didn’t but yeah fantastic car I was also looking for an exhaust if I did buy one fab speed do some excellent exhausts take a look at those looking forward to the next stage of the car 👍🤩
Tiptronic is really perfect for cruising, it is very smooth, and family friendly (my 12 yo daughter loves the triptronic...the car starts on the 2nd gear) but as soon as you don't want to cruise anymore, you realise it's an old system which does need a bit of practice to really be efficient. So yes, you did the right choice with the manual gearbox. That 996 is a fantastic car, hated for bad reasons. It is much more classy than newer model (apart from the 997) which are too sporty. The Rims you've got are not my favorites, but that's still a great, one you can use everyday. And the 320hp are more than enough.
Very nice thankyouplease, I reckon many older sports cars have an innate coolness, whereas modern metal can try a tad too hard and fall short on occasion.
"don't worry I'm just just a RU-vidr everyone... Nothing to see! Just trying to make Ad Sense okay! Just trying to pay for the Porsche" 😭😂😂😂 that's the funniest thing I have heard 😂😂😂😂 great video lad as always! I think this is the best purchase on your channel! The 996 is so underrated and I'm glad you got this over any of the other 911s previous 😊 the value! I really hope you can do more videos on this car and take us through what you are going with her! 😊 keep up the chaotic work my lad! 😊 shouted out on Insta too! TGE_TV, give a follow maaatttttteeeees!
🤟 great summary...have a 996 4S convertable sice 9 years...love it mega...never would sell...acually all you say I CAN confirm..and on German Autobahn still a big player 😎
Excellent video Tom 👍🏻 I'm a massive Porsche fan and you've chose very very well lad! One question though. With owning so many cars, how does your insurance work? What I mean is that insurers will only let you use your no claims bonus for one car yes? Do you have a special policy to cover all the cars or do you just have to start with zero no claims discount on all but one of your cars? Thanks 👍🏻
I have found that no claims is a bit of a con and doesn’t really make much difference once you use a specialist insurer and build a profile with them. I use A Plan as my broker and ERS as the underwriter.
Good video.. I have a 996 C2 with 85k on the clock.. I need to do the ims as I'm paranoid it will fail. You said yours has had the 997 bearing fitted? I don't think that's correct as after speaking to Hartech (porsche engine specialist?) they told me they won't replace the ims with a different one as the problem is still there, It needs the 997 ims and the 997 bearing which is bigger than the 996. So now I'm Confused as I don't know what to do.Most specialists will charge about £2.5k and just fit a different bearing... Maybe you could go into more detail about your ims upgrade as there's a lot of us worried about our ticking time bombs. Oh and at the time of talking to Hartech they had a few engines on the floor waiting to be rebuilt with failed upgraded ims bearings!...
Spot on re finance, I bought one (from specialist, full service history, same approach as you to the "project" element) the week before you, £3k in and £340 per month.
@@TGE Will do. I only live a few miles from RPM Technik so I suspect they will be getting a bit of business. Though a Hartech 3.9 expansion also beckons. Mine's a C4S Tip, 2002
