Thanks for these very informative videos. Spotify's listeners are more on the free tier than paid. I recently learned that Spotify's Ad revenue is only around 9% of gross revenue. Isn't that where the problem is? Spotify in it's inception said as the audience grows so will artist payments. The opposite has happened. Where we are discussing this [youtube/google] they have released ad revenue numbers and they are enormous. RU-vid could take less than their outrageous 45% and pays artists a reasonable rate. Spotify could focus on having a legitimate business model and paying artists, rather than the ponzi scheme/shell game they adhere to. Even Apple could do limited advertising or just use the higher payments to justify more hardware sales. Without regulation it's doubtful this will happen.

I agree. They’ve had 15 years to build a good advertising offer to attract and keep advertisers happy. If they had done a better job with their advertising department they could have improved the economics of the model.

My feeling would be to add an option for artists to do a special paid release which fans can buy. For example a 3 song special release for $2.99. Paid directly to the artist but streamed in the same way Only available to paid monthly subscribers It would encourage the free users to buy a subscription and also allow fans t support their artist

The current payout is “very roughly $0.0037 p/stream” and that is based on the current $9.99 p/month (and subscriptions are as low as $3.00 in some territories). One of my suggestions was to raise the price to $12.99. Also I think you meant $0.01 p/stream, because you reduced the current payout. My suggestion would get it close to a penny p/stream.
