You don't ever wipe any hole with any type of filler. That's how it goes. If you want a paint job that's going to last you never wipe any hole with any filler you cut that metal out and you put it back with metal the way it came and do metal work that's real body work not plastic work. No hate just constructive criticism. I started out doing restorations almost 10 years ago and I've been heavy heavy into it day in and day out for the past 4 years taking it from a hobby to a profession. I agree with a lot of the things you say and that a new car paint job is far easier and far less complicated as far as things not wanting to break and it not being a big deal to doing all over paint job. On an older car you nailed it they are far more complicated and they've seen a rougher life typically than a newer car.please keep in mind the things you're talking about filling on the nose and around those grill pieces those shouldn't be filled they should be sanded and the material that that nose is made out of has to be filled with a material that is like the material that it's made out of. You can't wipe Bondo on that endura rubber bumper it will never stick but for a short period of time and it will come back through eventually. What you're gonna learn is that you can't price custom or restoration jobs. I'm actually getting ready to upload a video along these same lines. Great video man 💪🏾

Even with your prices it's still sounds reasonable. For consumers when the shop immediately goes 10k no bodywork people run lol some shops won't even knock the price down if you bring the car all the way down to the metal with all trim removed that i would say is ridiculous haha

Any recommendations for finding painters like yourself in other states? I would rather give one guy my money vs the big corporations. Every time I google search paint technician I just get corporate shops

Man I wish you was closer. I’m in Iowa and had 2 different shops range from 60-120k!!! I just don’t get it. I even have all the panels and bumpers for my 1980 Z28 Camaro. I found shops for that price that would completely rebuild the entire car including chassis to engine all new. 🤦‍♂️

I have a 1938 Plymouth. It's built and I drive it. Think before I acquired it the previous owner did a macco. No big deal but it sat for years before I received it. Now it looks good far away but getting close you can see the door is a different color. Rust painted over on the fenders. Bad mud job on the trunk. I love to get it painted problem is no shop will sand her down and shoot it. I'm not asking for a show job just asking for a basic job that looks good. All the shops say they don't do full jobs. I like 2000 or something but the one shop the guy told me 35 Grand. Who the hell has that kind of money in these times?

Wait, wait....theres a bunch of non contextual information being given out here..lmao. And be clear, Ford DID NOT cost out $5k on the paint job for that Transport Van. Let me add some contaxt. Pricing is subjective. And customers should shop around. If a painter can shoot....can do good bodywork.....if they choose to charge only $3500 for a paint job it will look far superior to a $10,000 job by a mediocre skilled body man/painter. PERIOD.......Now the true laws of economics would deem that a premium skill demands a premium price, mid grade skill demand mid grade price, and low grade skill at a discount price. Then the level of service and the grade of product used comes into the equation. But to just sit up here and say that you pay cheap and you get cheap is utter nonsense. If the shooter is highly skilled and has a discounted price you will get a high level job at that discounted price. But carry on......

I start at 15k and up for old school vehicles,rust repairs or fabrication get charged by the hour on a separate ticket
