Hi Jeff. I recently decided to start getting into candle making with my daughter as a way to do something together and for her to learn how to make her own money. I just want you to know that I've found your videos extremely helpful and I appreciate the time and effort that you've put in to share your experience and knowledge. Thank you very much.

I went up to 1.3 ounces per pound using coco paraffin wax. The flame was huge. I used the recommend CD wicks for my jar size. I also used vanilla and coconut so they were both heavier fragrances. I’m working on that combination. This was helpful. Thank you

Thank you Jeff! I'm just beginning this journey, and your advice has been invaluable. I understand that folks are looking for a standard number, because I know I was. I realize now that testing really is necessary, because I found some fragrances can be a little overwhelming if they are very strong. In my case I made a batch of French Vanilla candles at 10%, and I find the scent cloying at that concentration. My next batch will be 8%. I hope this makes them more pleasant, and not even stronger! The chance that the candle may perform better and be less expensive to produce is an added benefit. Less is more I suppose! Before I started, I thought I could sell my first candle. Now I'm hoping to sell my 100th! Haha!

Hi Jeff..I have been using soy 10 wax and get a good ht at around 8 %. And for tart wax I have been using TW 30 and it can hold up to 18 percent but use around 15 % for my wax melts and tarts.
@StandleyHandcrafted

For melts you can actually get away with more oil than candles since it’s not being burned. Heating the oils up works great and sometimes more oil can add more scent throw to melts.

Hi Jeff! I just started making candles and am curious on how to use multiple scents. I am wanting to make an apple cinnamon candle with a hint of vanilla but not sure on how to go about that. Would I mix all the scents in the same wax at the same time? Different amounts of each oil? Your videos have been extremely helpful and definitely help my motivate to keep going!

I've been having a problem with too much melt pool! I used a CD 6 for 8 oz tureen with 12% FO and coco apricot wax.OMG after like 2 or 2.5 hours it was totally melted wax. I'm getting ready to put same wax and oil % in a 16 oz mason jar but wonder if I should use CD 6 or 10.I'm getting frustrated.

Thanks so much! I just started candle making as a hobby and your channel is so helpful!! I was just wondering, according to your formula if you're taking 16oz of wax and then adding 1.92oz of fragrance, then don't you then end up with 17.92oz to put in your candles and an actual fragrance percentage of 10.7%? Honestly, if this is your preferred way to calculate it then I'm happy to do it too but just want to make sure. Thanks!
@StandleyHandcrafted
@StandleyHandcrafted 3 года назад
There are two ways to calculate the oil percentage. The way I mentioned in the video is adding 12% on top of the wax weight of 16oz. If you wanted to end up with a gola weight of say, 16oz then the calculation would be different. You would need to factor in the oil and wax together so you end up with only 10-12% added. Adding 1.92oz oil to 16 oz of wax you would still only have a fragrance load of 12%
@benk923

Thank you for this Jeff. I saw that you tested A05 CocoSoy from LLS. What percentage do you prefer for it please? I’ve tried 6%, 8% and 10%. The hot throw is not strong at all and there was some sweating/beading at the 6% mark ?? So confused by this. Would love your help 🤷🏾‍♀️

So what I did was went to brambleberry site and looked at the fragrance calc and used the fragrance that way for 300g wax it said for my fragrance to use 25g so I converted that to oz in order to figure out the cost per candle which is what I need help with. On your pdf it says what percentage of fragrance load and I am unsure how to calculate that

Jeff, I made wax melts yesterday. The scent had a great smell. However now that the melts have set up there is no scent to them. Is it possible that once they cure and I melt them that they may have a good ht ? Thank you, Marjorie

Cold throw can disappear a little once they harden up. Are they covered melts, in clamshells or open? Certain waxes will have nicer cold throw also.

I use 464 and 6006 and I pour the FO as soon as it reaches 185°. By the time I've stirred it for 2 minutes it's cool enough to pour into the jars. Hope that helps. I've tried different temps but this has worked out the best so far.

I was originally doing the following formula 16 oz wax * .012 (12% FO)= 1.92 oz FO to add But then I just saw your video from a year ago saying that formula was incorrect and you used completely different formula to calculate the fragrance oil to addd. Was I correct before? I’m still so confused on which formula is correct to use.
