Let's get FINANCIALLY naked. YUP. SALARY TRANSPARENCY!
You know I'm the BIGGEST proponent of talking about how much you make and what you did to get there. I firmly believe that it's the only way that we can get to know our worth.
As a disclaimer, the aim of this video was not to make anyone feel inferior. The goal of this video isn't to brag or share. It's meant to get real, talk about difficult things to help you feel more comfortable discussing money. In my experience, the only way that I was able to learn to ask my boss for more or look for another job was by talking about things like this. I've been very fortunate to have this career path. But I also gave it my all

thank you for being so forthcoming with your income. Talking about money is taboo and I think it's hurting more than it's helping. If we all considered how much the top earners make and that they are not working that much harder to support that income maybe things would change for all of us

Great video! Had no clue about the income tracking website. Thank you for that. So cool! Been in the security industry for the last 10years. Started in armed security at local church, moved into security management for Charles Schwab and CyrusOne data centers, then moved into selling commercial security straight commission. Security management is great and on track to make 90k gross the third year, but hated punching a clock and not having a say in how much I make. First year sales was a rough start at 36k since I had never done sales. But found the groove and doubled the earnings at 75k net for my second year. For no base and straight commish, only 25k off my goal of 100k. If I keep the same traction going into 2023, 100k looks like a breeze. 🤞🏽💰💯🔥 Sales is a great way to increase overall income if u can handle the hustle!

I love the idea that we should all share our pay. However, this doesn’t work everywhere. In my first job temping in a recruitment agency, we got into an issue where a client of ours had to fire the contract staff we placed at the company two weeks after he started with them. Reason being, the guy had shared his salary with his new colleagues and his entire department then asked for a pay raise. The company had actually budgeted higher for his pay because he wasn’t getting benefits (which also costs our client) that the full time staff were given. End of the day, the guy that shared his salary was fired and the rest of the full time staff got the raise they want but no additional headcount (so everyone has to work more to ‘justify’ their higher pay). We did try to place that guy in another job later on, but he got a better offer from a different recruitment agency. For context though, I’m in Singapore where there is virtually no worker protection since we are all not allowed to go on strikes or riots. So the action of sharing his pay, was viewed as misconduct (which did lead to mutiny of sorts within the department). If you go to Singapore’s MOM website, that is valid grounds for dismissal and he wouldn’t have been able to contest that. This was also in 2008, where most people would be happy just having a job to stay on.

I love your content! Can you address at some point what those of us with not much (read: any) leverage in salary negotiation can do while still having some semblance of work/life balance (as in not taking a second job)? I'm a teacher and it feels unattainable to ever be able to become a millionaire - or even set up well for retirement.
@jacklyn-b1u

I believe the retirement crisis will get even worse. Many struggle to save due to low wages, rising prices, and exorbitant rents. With homeownership becoming unattainable for middle-class Americans, they may not have a home to rely on for retirement either.

Consider buying stocks when the economy is not doing well, like during a recession. It could be a chance to buy them at a lower price and sell later when prices go up. Just keep in mind, this isn't financial advice, but sometimes it's better than keeping a lot of cash.

In short, she studied public policy and environmental studies. She interned at JP Morgan equities desk in New york. That internship turned into a full time offer at Wallstreet as a trader. Management changed and the new boss is racist and sexist. Work environment is intolerable. She works ~14 hours a day. New York is expensive. She called it quits. She makes more money on digital media sales. Things like sponsors, merch, youtube channel, tiktok, forbes, BuzzFeed, amazon referral link commissions, and so on.

I'm the type of person who will work extremely hard if the benefits scale with my work. It's the reason why I'm increasingly losing interest in my job and making plans to get my own business up and running this year. In my 20s, I was driven but I hung out with the wrong crowd. That crowd didn’t wanna talk about money. Now I’m in my 30s and have a friend who likes it when we share money advice. So…be careful who you hang out with.

Be glad your a young female, feel like you want but decent looking women are almost always hired in leu of a man, not to mention being a minority hire. Women are helped and bailed out constantly, you might have worked hard your entire life but that's less important than who you know or who you've met and how they think of you. Don't let it diminish your happiness or personal value, but it's true women are helped and given chances men wouldnt be, especially when they look good.
