I used to prefer uncut gemstones (purely for aesthetic reasons) until I was blessed with your videos. The craftsmanship, the science/math of the cut placement and process... it’s almost like magic how beautiful gems are turned into remarkable pieces of art by cutting them so that light passes through them intentionally. LOVE your work!

The deeper stones with high crowns are nice for (my particular style of) wire wrapping. It makes it easier to show the stone off without having to worry about a deep back potentially making the pendent wobbly.

With regards to the Amethyst Trilliants, I prefer the darker one just for it's rich color but the lighter one with the inclusions doesn't bother me one bit. I also cut colored gemstones and have left inclusions in many of my gems for a couple reasons. One is yield, albeit less value per carat but it looks more natural. People can tell it's natural and sure they can pay much more for the same stone if it were free of inclusions but then they might as well buy some purple Glass which would look identical to it, minus the inclusions considering the refractive index of both. I try to eliminate inclusions but I don't lose sleep over it. I have cut a couple stones that IMO were enhanced by their inclusions and most people agreed. I also like to consider gemstones to be similar to the people that buy them. Even good people are flawed so why not buy a stone that reflects the reality of their personality ? A beautiful gem with some flaws for a beautiful person with some flaws. What better match can you find than that ? And that's the story I'm sticking to. !!! BTW - That inclusion is more of a "Thumbprint" inclusion rather than a Veil which is more of an unhealed crack. I recently heard that Thumbprints are most commonly found in Amethyst (for some reason) and can be found in Prasiolite (heat treated Amethyst).

What about those stories about how diamonds had to be struck to cut them? You know, like the advertisement that a certain car rode so smooth that a man riding in the back could cut a valuable diamond without missing the crucial point in the crystal. One false strike and the whole diamond could be ruined. Is this a true thing or just a dramatic myth?
@stuartgems7593

diamonds used to be divided that way before cutting now it is more common to saw a diamond than cleave it as it is safer and more accrete

@stuartgems7593
@stuartgems7593 2 года назад
Yes, absolutely it can tack a bit of tie for the coper lap to start working well as the diamond needs to bed into the copper use an old credit card to charge the lap with the diamond slurry also coper is not the best polishing lap for every gem they can be difficult to use you need to get the speed amount slurry and pressure just right try varying these tings to find what works best best of look

@@stuartgems7593 so heat or a long acetone soak to remove the first dop? Last time we used heat and it shock fractured a large quartz🤯
@stuartgems7593
@stuartgems7593 3 года назад
@@whackidoodle indirect heat only heat the dop you can also use a hot knife to remove the epoxy you can also use a wet tissue paper to keep the gem cool super glue can sometimes be difficult to remove with heat I have not had any problems with this technique but there is always some risk with heat if you are worried about thermal shock don't use any super glue under the dop use the transfer gig and only put epoxy around the dop it will release much easier and almost on heat is necessary a hot knife will cut away the epoxy
@whackidoodle
@whackidoodle 3 года назад
@@stuartgems7593 we did use wet paper tissue and only heated the brass to protect in this case. However, heat transfer was just too much. I think it was something like a 16mm flat dop. Fully glued the whole surface though. Perhaps next we try will either use glue only around the outside like you mentioned or maybe even place a polystyrene plastic piece on first as a heat barrier between the rough and the brass. Got the wheels turning now!🤣 thanks for the feedback
@stuartgems7593
@stuartgems7593 3 года назад
chances are thad you did not doo any ting wrong the amethyst probably fractured due to internal stress from when it was formed, I have herd of 100 ct tanzanite shattering because a small amount of heat it is not very common in quartz and you may never have it happen again I revelry use wax for amethyst and have had no problems like that but a cold doping technique is always safer try a few ways and find what works for you personally I would not use anything between the dop and gem but i have never tried it so maybe its ok good look and happy faceting

Sir, recently I've been wondering... People keeps talking about black diamonds but I don't know if diamonds can actually be purely black and I can't tell about whether the google images I search for are photoshopped or real black diamonds. Since you know about stones, I was wondering if you could answer my question😅😅. As in there are different types of crystals and stones. Some are real and some are maybe artificially produced/made. *So can diamonds be naturally black? I mean, is there any rare chances of obtaining ACTUAL, REAL and pure naturally-black or grey diamonds? Or are all black diamonds artificially made?*
@stuartgems7593
@stuartgems7593 3 года назад
Hi, to answer your question let me first explain how gems are classified. Natural- formed by nature without human interference Artificial manufactured made my man lab created Synthetic and artificial gem with a natural counter part ie. Synthetic Diamond, Synthetic ruby Imitation and simulants Natural or Artificial gem sold as a more expensive gem this is what most people refer to as facks a Synthetic black Diamond sold as a Synthetic Black Diamond is not a fack but a Synthetic black Diamond sold as a natural black diamond is a fack now we understand each other let me answer your question yes there are natural black diamond these diamonds are usually treated by irradiating a green diamond with poor clarity this changes the colour to black this treatment is common in many natural gemstones there are also Synthetic black Diamond and Imitation and stimulants on the market I strongly recommend buying from a reputable seller and remember there is no such thing as a free lunch if the price is too good to be true then chances are that it may not be a natural diamond hope this helps
