A collector that focuses on on books from an otherwise very little known author may pay more than the books actual value, while someone that osn't veryinterested in the author may pay much less
I have this book called ‘ the seven seas by Rudyard Kipling’ and on the page after the cover it sais “to my wonderful mother” with a date from 1914. Even touching a book this old let alone owning it is just phenomenal to me.

I have a hard cover, old design, page design, red leather and gold bound 'Hans Christian Anderson' stories and Fairy tales from the 1800's. From the side, the pages have a gorgeous old design of vines on it. It has a stamp on it that shows the cover was recovered by a school that doesnt exist anymore, with a certificate of acheivement to a student with a signature from 1902. I was told by a book store it wasn't worth more than $10 dollars. I highly disagree.
I have a copy of black beauty published by recent classics that I found in a drainage ditch on garbage day and when I looked up the publisher being recent classics I got absolutely nothing on them it seems as if they were totally like non-existent

This is a common question.This means that the first edition was copyrighted in 1884,and that you most likely have a later edition,copyrighted in 1928. Sometimes if a book is a first edition,it will say that it's a first edition close to the copyright,then again,some books that are first editions,don't have any markings identifying them as first editions.In this case,you can look up the publisher,and year the book was published.This will give you a good estimate if your book is a first edition or not.

All of those categories are true, however, you have to pay people sometimes more than the value of the book to certify it. I'd rather have any author's wirk in any format - his thoughts are still on the pages no matter how old the book. Like all collectables, book collecting is a scam.
