What people are realizing now is that the man gave up five runs on the mound, but was responsible for 6 in the field. Shohei ohtani allowed five earned runs, but he hit a three-run homer, and got driven in two or three more times. You could say he negated all of the damage that he allowed. So basically, that last start he allowed zero runs because he got back every single bit of what he gave up.

Ohtani is the best Baseball player of all time, right now he has a career average of .270 and a ERA of 2.90, and I like Babe but I also like what Casey Stengal said in the 1960s interview, he said the players now are so much better bigger stronger faster (meaning Mays and Mantle and other's) then when he was playing in the 1920s & 30s. And no one knows Baseball better then Casey Stengal, Babe played against farmers and coal miners, and did'nt train 362 days and play against international worldwide talents like they do today.

You think about the show Shohei put on in the WBC and with what he continues to do in the league. Then you look at his global merchandising and marketing value. The TV contracts and social media traffic alone are astronomical. He's the only player getting merchandise sections at shops in opponent stadiums. And he's in the CY Young and MVP race every year. On top of that, Harper and Cole signed their contracts a few years ago, so inflation factors into the numbers. $60m/yr might not even get a return call from his agent.

The bidding starts at 600 mil for 10 years if you ask me - he is an elite hitter and elite pitcher in the same person. So if elite hitters cost $30-35 mil and elite pitchers $30-40 mil you do the math. You have to pay him as if he is two players, (1) $30 mil for his hitting and (2) another 30 mil for his pitching its unprecedented how he is gonna be valued would love to be his agent. If Schezer and Verlander currently get about $43 mil only to pitch every 5th day and he has not only pitched better than them but he is also an MVP level hitter, I don’t see how he gets less than $60 mil. In fact if you go by the going market rat he is closer to $70 mil he is worth 35 mil as a hitter and another 35 mil for his pitching, unreal

He is definitely NOT going to the Padres, Mets and the Blue Jays. Ohtani has said before he does not want to play on a team with an established Japanese star already. Especially if that player is a starting pitcher like him. And he wants to go to a perrenial contender, so it probably has to be big market team afraid of not using money this time around, different from his thinking in prioritizing a team in 2018. So it has to be the Dodgers or the Yankees. And to a lesser extent, Red Sox (but they have Yoshida), Cubs (but they have Suzuki), Rangers, Mariners (but then he has to compete with the Angels whom he feels certain obligation of sticking with him when he was down at the beginning of his MLB career until he became this unicorn). Astros, Rays, Braves if he does not care about money but VERY VERY unlikely. Other western teams Giants, Dbacks, Rockies, Athletics no chance.

But Ohtani can, and if they don't make the playoffs, he will. Everyone can agree that he is a goner if they don't make the playoffs this year. In my opinion, he is gone even if they make the playoffs. The only way I see him staying is if they make a deep playoff run and do not just lose in the first round. So why not trade him if you know you have a 0% chance of making the playoffs? I think we can all agree that at that point, the dumbest thing the angels can do is not trade him. I think MLB should cap the salary he can get from teams to stop the ridiculousness and MLB should pay him $20 million a year for saving baseball.

The question is what is he going to do with all the money, be it $500m, $600m, $700m, etc. He is going to rebuild the freeways in Greater LA area and be voted as unofficially governor of California

You guys really still don't get it, do you? It's not how much Ohtani gets, it's who will pay his money next year? Ohtani's gonzo next year if not by the trade deadline this year. He's pulling down _at least_ as much money on other Japanese/Asian endorsement deals as his $30 mill salary. He knows he's not going to see the post season this year and will likely end up like Trout if he signs a 5-year deal; you know, 11 seasons, one post-season sweep in 2014!

I think 45 mil a year would be a bargain... Probably deserves 50 plus

"Is he a HOFer?" "Not yet" makes no sense when you're literally talking about a guy who does things unseen in the sport in a century. They'll make an Ohtani award ans give him that if he's not in the HOFer. His already historic.

"Not yet HOF" Technically probably true but has by far the shortest path of any player in history relative to longevity. 2, 3 more seasons of what he has been doing and it wont matter when the "counting" numbers look like.

If Ohtani stays with LAA I’m ok with that but fear he will never win a World Series, I would like to se him go to the Padres just so I have an excuse to buy a Padres Alt Road Jersey, they are dope.

Two way player gets two contracts and he saves a roster spot for someone else. He will be the first BILLION dollar player. He's been robbed in his previous contract. Time to make it up for him.

I don’t get their point. Yes, he’s extremely valuable and you want to keep him as long as they can. But if they’re in 3rd-4th place at the deadline and don’t think they can keep him, they have to make a trade. You can’t lose him for nothing. At least try to come up with a couple solid players and prospects. Better than hanging on to him and missing the playoffs anyway only to watch him walk.

Give him $1 billion. He's literally giving birth to baseball fans all over the world, not just the US.
