Perhaps a little bit more about the history of this coin. This was the second coin in the Victorian era's attempt of decimalisation, the 1st being the florin or 1 tenth of a pound, the half crown stopped being minted and the double florin 1 fifth of a pound was issued to replace the crown. The first florins omitted the term F.D. (Defender of the faith) and were shunned by the public being called the 'godless florin, the second issue redressed this but the half crown was popular with the public and was minted again. The double florin (issued alongside the crown) was known as the barmaids folly and in the poor lighting of the Victorian era, was passed off as a crown, and this was the reason for the small year run. They must have remained in circulation for some time though as I have one that has some wear in it.
I never knew they were produced for only three years, I've old coinage in a display coffee table, I got all excited as mine is 1889, the highest mintage one. Dammit 😂 thanks for the info.
