How MUCH it COST to own my FERRARI F430 for 3 YEARS - In Detail

I owned my Ferrari F430 for almost 3 years. In that time I drove it well over 20,000 miles and did all the maintenance and modifications myself. The DIY servicing of the car probably saved me about half the cost if not more rather than taking it to a dealership or professional shop.
In this video I break down how much I spent per year and per mile on the car by different categories - Interest, Insurance, Parts, and Maintenance. Of note, the car NEVER left me stranded and never had maintenance that I could not fix myself.

$14,000 depreciation in 3 years for an exotic is not bad at all.

I've had my 08 car since 2012. In that time it gained about $15k up to 2018 and has now sunk back to just over what I paid. I think they'll now level off but depreciation is not going to be a major factor. I feel for guys who bought new 488s and have lost $100k in a year, and they look to sink further in the face of the Tributo. 458s and 488s now occupy the same territory, which seems a bit weird!

and the depreciation is rather arbitrary since buyers for such cars are not plentiful, and thus the selling prices can vary widely if the seller wants to quickly move the car.

Man, definitely some great stuff in this video - you didn't just buy a dream car, you DROVE it, and you drove the heck out of it. And you DIY'd the work. That makes such a big difference in what we (we in the general sense) can afford to own for a car. Hope we get to meet someday, you seem like such a down to earth car guy.

A. THANK YOU for driving your cars! I freaking love seeing mileage being put on these stallions. B. I hope you are off on the 360's going back up by about a year, I'm hoping they hit a low next year (as I'm shopping them for my "over the hill" birthday) but I agree that the 430 is more and more becoming the tantalizing deal.

Great video and the information you put forward is golden! - the depreciation isn't that bad at all. Given your mileage was slightly high (for this particular car), if it was lower then the car would be worth more thus less depreciation. But you enjoyed it and you're happy at the end. Good review on cost ownership breakdown, you left out fuel cost. I ran some numbers when I bought my 2006' Maserati Gransport coupe, has the same, but a detuned F136 V8 and F1 6 sp drivetrain. I"m a little over a year with ownership, I figure x 3 in cost increase across the board when I step up to a F430 someday. For me the biggest hit will be the upfront purchase price and the higher insurance, I'd like to finance more the half at 3 yrs to keep the loan interest low. You're correct, doing your own work saves a bundle, I'm the same way, I've yet to visit a Ferrari/Maserati dealership.

I had an 2002 E39 BMW M5 and drove it for 48k miles (starting at ~59k). It was $0.74/mile in total including depreciation. I had a 2013 Mini that I also put 48k miles on (starting at 16k) and it was about $0.59/mile. Both cars were self maintained and driven hard. I now have a 99' BMW M3 and it will probably be $0.40/mile doing the same daily+race car. A long term Toyota or Honda if bought new can be less than $0.40/mile. I also have a 99' Oldsmobile that is about $0.20/mile, with half of that being fuel at $0.10/mile.

Interesting numbers , i kept books on all my cars, when i had a E220 W124 (23 year old, 330.ooo km, needing a lot of stuff done) vs. Honda CR-V 2005 model (which are pretty much bullet proof, they barely need maintenance), but after adding all the costs i found that the Mercedes costs about the same as the Honda in ownership, one would depreciate and the other would need maintenance but very close costs when you factor them in. Your F430 seems to have been reasonable, given what it is. That exhaust managed to be a very large expense in the total cost.

Forgot to mention the cost, it´s 3000-4000$ US per year (excluding fuel), per each car. I am a manual gated guy and those are at a premium for the 360 and I am seeing $30,000 to $40,000 extra for the 430 due to the last years with the gated. I will be selling an extra condo in a few months and then I will have the extra money for either a Ferrari or a Porsche and I am leaning towards the Ferrari. I was going to get a new SUV but I rebuilt my engine and transmission on my 22 year old Toyota 4Runner and I will keep that as my daily driver and I will buy my dream car. The know 360 has the cam issues with the early cars but most should had been fixed by now and of course the belt service but at least the engine does not have to be taken out and the 430 has the exhaust issues I was reading about. I was first looking at the 308’s or the 328’s but after more research the 360’s and the 340’s caught my eye. Thanks for all the good info.

@@normalguysupercar Thinking about getting one. High mile scares me though as I know others have used the shit out of it lol but I will be driving the hell out of it, how much miles did it have when you bought yours? Im sure while you were doing your research on getting the 458, you heard about avoiding the 2010-2011 models, what made you confident in buying it? Thoughts about extended warranty and if you did buy it how much does it cost? Thanks so much

I am about to see a silver 430 that I just won the bid for on BAT but did not make the reserve. Carbon ceramic breaks convertible 18000 mile 2007. Looks like a good example, the Ferrari shop gave the thumbs up but not inspected there yet. Local boutique car shop has it. They want 106,000 min. So confused on prices. Looks like prices are still slowly creeping down... what do u all think? Wait till next spring or stick to 91,500 + 5000 BAT commission after local Ferrari check or somewhere higher = assume its a nice example.

My budget is around 160k and I’m having a hard time to choose between these three cars . Used Ferrari California T, brand new Audi R8 or, 911. Any suggestions? my dream car is to own a Ferrari. Currently I have a Porsche Cayenne and a new RAM Rebel .

Thanks for the cost breakdown! Very helpful. At double the cost if you hadn't done your own maintenance, that's nuts, $72k for 3 years, wasn't that much fun. You should do a video on the effect of Ferrari ownership on marriage, get your wife's point of view and input. I remember the early video you did with your wife. Forget the cost of ownership, what's the cost on the relationship?! That's the biggest hurdle for most considering buying a super car, how do you get your spouse's support? If you plan on selling your Ferrari, in my opinion, it's better to keep the professional maintenance for documentation and not do it yourself. That's a big red flag for me if someone is doing their own maintenance. Part of what you're selling is the documentation. If you buy a Ferrari and intend to own it forever, then by all means do all maintenance that you can yourself.

Well done for driving & using your Ferrari. Too many owners just don’t drive their Ferrari’s enough & that’s when all the problems occur resulting in a very expensive maintenance bill. It is a thoroughbred machine with a highly strung engineered engine & driveline. Precisely not the car to let sit in a garage for any length of time & drive short distances. Besides, it is pointless paying all that money if you’re not driving & enjoying such an exotic piece of machinery.

I had a 430, paid 175 and sold for 95 to dealer after 7 years. Did not really like the car. Put only about 20 K miles in total. Think it cost me about $10/mile. I would stay away from the 430. Reliability improved with the 458.

No sales tax? In many states every time cars change hands sales tax is charged. A few years ago in GA they started collecting 6% everytime a car is newly registered. (Except for immediate family)

Actually to be expected for a 100k car not even including the enjoyment of ownership. A cost of ownership of your rental fleet (Minus income of course) would be interesting as well.

There is another version, that you dont change spark, exhaust, only oil you ll prob get by 20,000miles of ownership in which you save even more.. but the risk is if things break but those items are not fatal to the car or engine. I would do the trans oil without the filter amd leave the problems to the next owner, 20,000miles cheaper get by still.possible but you ll loose tiny performace joy which is hard to pick up...
