Hi Amy I think you did really well for a cross-country move under $5,500 including moving the contents of your apartment, your car and Leo. I'm not surprise you had issues with the PODS moving schedule and the car moving service (I moved from CT to DC last year). And bummer about your sofa not fitting! So glad to see that you and Leo came out relatively unscathed by the experience and are happily settling in to your new home now.

You did great with your move. Across the country more than once. I’ve moved from FL to San Jose and then San Jose to DC. And I also helped my sister move cross country too. It’s so much money no matter how you do it. I spent 10k on the move cross country. I had to drive my animals since my dog that is no longer with us was too old to fly. I think the worst part is having to make new friends and new connections when you move so far away. Both times it was just my husband and my pets. You are doing great and hopefully it will all come together.

Love this! I don't think that was a bad cost overall. I felt the cat situation and choices. My first cross country trip did not go well with my cat (I used a big cage instead of a carrier so he had litter and I could put in water and food at rest stops), but the second time I moved back cross country he was super chill, ha. I'm going to remember to check out PODS again next time bc I'm definitely ready to go west again. Like you said, when compared to with fuel, lodging, etc. moving your own...not bad. Anyway, loved your DC content and looking forward to SF content!

our lease is a year and then we will go from there! its definitely on the higher end of our budget so i ~think~ we will want to scale back or re-negioate a bit!

i found a local tiktoker who organized it!! DC has a ton of great community orgs/volunteer ops so id google things ur interested in and use that as a launching point !
