In most cases they do compose song and write lyrics to the song, come up with concepts that make the songs actually cell, so it is quite fair that they take more money than artist.

@@tsunami3963 first and most importantly, this list is very inaccurate and have been circling around for many years. Someone made it up years ago and now people use it as correct information. Second, that would not be how this percentage work. Let's say one song made 100 000 $, as in pure sale. 30% of that, aka 30 000$, would go to artist just for signing song. Other 70%, aka 70 000$, would then be distributed to everyone else involved, including composers and writers. If one of them wrote/composed a song they would get that money too. Also, i would like to mention, that that 30% wouldn't be distributed equally among 13 of them. How much they would get depends how much they sing and which part they sing. (This might not be the case for every company, but some work on this principle) it also depends on where they are from, cause of the law they can't sign the same contracts. There are many factors here. And to answer your question, they are not most self-produced group, block b is (i think they broke of), but they do help a loooooot with song making.

Actually, EXO have been consistent top earners in the industry up until their hiatus, why? Because their concerts were legendary and they were being paid in big buck, comeback time was rather short (three weeks max) compared to months of multiple tours throughout Asia, GG and SJ were also some of the highest paid in their respective eras too, concerts and events and promotions and personal projects pay just as well if not better compared to physical and digital sales, that's why SM artist don't much care for album sales or albums in general, SM usually does a half assed job anyways with them, all their albums I have are coming apart, probably because they underpay some sweat shop workers to glue them together and jack the prices in the market for profit, not to mention, SM has developed the nasty habit of not making enough copies anyways, it's still unfair that their artists get scraps from album sales tho, but I say it's better than YG which claims to give 70% of physical sales to their artists but remind me, when was the last time BP got a physical album? And why is it that they always get singles.

Not sure about SM but for JYP, not only the company but (most of) their idols are also rich. Notice that a lot of ex-JYP idols (Rain, Got7, Yubin, etc), even tho some of them were somehow mistreated, still able to open their own agencies/business before/after leaving JYP? JYP also permit their artists to release their own songs so they can have royalties as their additional income. And all 2PM members are Directors of JYP now (just like some artists in SM), hence other additional income. But of course, disclaimer, this is only for 'successful' artist. Sadly there are a lot of ex-artists which were not properly promoted hence won't have that much money. Their artist management is still suck lmao, they can do better. * Oh also, fyi SM and JYP have the highest average annual salary for their staff compared to other companies (based on 1 korean job portal, i read it few months ago) so that's maybe another factor. They pay their staff better. Artists need to have a reliable and familiar staff to be happy in their jobs, so just like the artists the staff also need to be paid well.

@@ake8977 Hi, I'm not sure with this info but I read somewhere that GOT7 earned more than the company (probably because of the solo activities or their overseas event etc..) because GOT7's contract was more favorable to the artist at that time and because of this that is why JYPE neglected them (GOT7) and changed the contract of future groups like Twice, SKZ, and Itzy so that it'll be more favorable to the company.

@@Frances_Jo disclaimer, no one know the exact splits between company and artists, tbh, this video is based on rumors. Regarding Got7, yes, people said that their contract was favorable for them. But even tho it's more favorable to Got7, giving them activities still gave JYP more money than neglecting them, that's why they have a lot activities at the beginning. Then why they had less activities near their contract expiration? It's simple. Because it's pretty clear that the members want to leave JYP (different case with 2PM, we're sure they will renew and pretty shock when Taec decided not to), and JYP still have so many other artists. We ahgase were pretty sure that Got7 will all leave JYP. If we knew, of course JYP also knew. So in business wise, it's totally make sense to shift the focus to other artists, regardless of whether their contracts are more favorable to the company or not. For SKZ, they only recently became "popular" in Korea. Despite being from JYP, a lot of Korean people didn't know them, esp before God's Menu and Kingdom. For comparison, they're way less popular than The Boyz. Now that they gained more recognition, pretty sure JYP will milked them just like how they did with Twice. JYP definitely take advantage of this timing by "investing" more in SKZ. I honestly don't know, but i don't think they specifically want SKZ to beat Twice, they only want to boost SKZ popularity while they can. Afterall, SKZ still have long contract period compared to Twice. It's not a competition between groups, but JYP compete with other companies. They don't care who the artist is, they will milk anyone who currently have great prospect. Money talks here. JYP is a mess indeed. They have poor artist management especially during the last 10 years. JYP is simple: they only care for artists who will bring the most money. Remember Miss A? That popular "monster" group since debut but sadly, really managed poorly by JYP. With all those Miss A issue, JYP swift focus to Twice who's instantly gain popularity since debut. Itzy is also popular since Day-1 and heavily invested by JYP too. Thankfully Twice is still super popular with minimum issue, so we still have hope, public still "want" them. Dang, sorry, this is became too long. In conclusion, JYP is generally a good company with nice compensation (for their artists and even for staff), but they're really sucks in artist management. Yes they give their artists freedom but it's not managed properly (by far i think Division 1 does the best for SKZ, all members are given chance to explore their skills through SKZ Player/Record etc).

Twice too is somewhat given the freedom to participate in their music, some of the B-sides are written by the members. At this point I just hope that JYPE will treat their artists right especially Day 6😥😥. They seriously don't promote them but Their song are actually very nice. I also hope that despite Twice's nearing the end of their contract, JYPE will not neglect them. 😥😥 I'm glad GOT7 made that decision though, it's really heartbreaking if a group disband that's why it is such a blessing that GOT7 is more free now and still active.❣️❣️

YG is pretty fair when it comes to money. not just going off of the video, but most if not all sales that YG artists have are split in favor of the artist. the lowest a sale has been split is 50/50, which is still alright compared to other companies where the main split is 50/50 or 60/40 in favour of the company. so yea. YG and Hybe are fair especially with how much success their artists bring in and how much they work for comebacks and events.

Also bcoz they have smaller groups as compared to other labels. So if a group from SM which has 10 members earns $20M and a group from YG which has 5 members also earn $20M then individually YG members will earn 2x the amount of SM. Similarly TWICE is the richest K-Pop girl group but on an individual level they earn less than BP coz their profits are distributed among 9 members compared to 4. But it also cannot be ignored that YG gives a very good share to their artists.

Basically they are earning money from the group but also from their own jobs such as solo albums, advertising deals/fashion/magazines while groups like Twice barely have any solo jobs. SM tends to pay their artists more for overseas because they do a lot of overseas promotions, such as in Japan for many of their artists, China for EXO, and multiple events worldwide like world tours for SNSD, Red Velvet, NCT and SMTOWN Live too. The artists also get a lot of money from brand deals, which is why their artists are some of the richest in the industry with a big net worth. Their money may not come a lot from physical sales, but it comes from international events, brand deals, acting jobs, collaborations with other artists and more

But what can do we expect though, SM and their staffs literally done everything. The planning and research itself for world building etc must cost a lot of headache for the staffs. Let alone how expensive looking most of their artist mvs are, and how most SM artists albums actually fill with quality b songs that the companies need to pay for their producers, song writers, music engineers, etc rather than filler like other artists. The idols contribution for an album is only the singing part, where they already got the demo singers shown the way and the producers guide their delivery.

Companies have a lot more "bills" compared to their artists so it makes sense for them to get majority. You guys think it's unfair but if companies gave their artists 70%+ for everything, they wouldn't be in business very long. The companies have to pay for staff, building space, promoting, training, and so much more.

I think hybe is the fairest. 50/50 for events makes sense because they have to work hard and spend a lot of money for setting up the events. The other two are also fair because the artist works harder in those areas and staff doesn't do as much work as in events

I think they need to have different standards depending on how popular the group/idol/trainee is, like the ones that are not as popular need to get a larger percentage and the more popular ones get a closer to 50-50 deal. It'll keep both the idols and the companies motivated throughout the process and reduce idols being kept idle or unpromoted while also being broke which will just reduce their motivation too

Like yes idols need to get payed and popularity doesn't always equate to how hard an idol group works but paying an idol less cuz they are popular doesn't make sense. And is just none beneficial to the idols who are doing the most for the company. Plus paying idols at different rates is just discriminatory so that's not good. And wouldn't being broke push the idols to do better? Like if I had no money I'd do all I could to get more. Plus I highly doubt an idol being broke is the worst thing in the would since companies still play for dorms, food, clothes, and just their lifestyle in general they just would be able to splurge on anything they wanted
