I like a lot of light then LOL. We experimented with cheap lights in Studio A and found them wanting. 24x24 building with 10 foot ceilings and 4 of the cheap 8 foot lights isn't enough.

I have white painted OSB on my shop walls and ceiling and I couldn’t agree more. It is durable, easy to mount things and cheaper than finished drywall.

We had OSB in our old shop and it was cool to be able to mount anything anywhere. Studio B will be a multi use area (green screen corner etc) so we aren't going to go with the OSB. Our goal is to open up the studio for local RU-vidrs that do what we call "talking head" videos that we shoot edit and produce for them.

@@AutoRestoMod sounds like great plans and the Sheetrock would be a better back ground for green screen. Good luck with your plans.

We are moving as fast as the powers that be will let us. Garage doors are 30 days out. Ditch digger to bury cable is two weeks out. Fits and starts bud, fits and starts.

We went with a medium gray on the walls. And the floor is a nice light gray. I like the light we have. near zero shadow.

What kind of DP Merc do you have?

Yeah we had fluorescents in our old shop and I finally started trading out the bulbs and ballasts for LED retrofits. So much better.

Agreed. We are going with a medium gray wall as it works better for film. But white is a great choice for reflectivity.

I'm a former design engineer for a lighting company, and it's suprising how something as seemingly simple as light can be an extremely confusing subject for the uninitiated (so many different terms!). You touch on a lot of good points here. One of the main ones being that foot-candles (and it's metric/SI equivalent "lux") is the number one thing to consider when setting up "task lighting." It's a measure of how much light you have on the surface you're working on (where it's useful to you), as opposed to lumens, which is more of a measure of how much total light a fixture produces. The reason lumens is used in marketing instead of foot-candles: foot-candles is specific to your application (ceiling height, work surface height, etc.). You alluded to this in the list of info you gave your lighting provider, which is used in the calculations. Color temperatures are more a matter of preference, but what you said about 3000K being "warmer" and easier on the eyes vs. 5000K (or higher) being rather harsh and bad for filming is generally true. I prefer 4000K myself for general lighting. Beyond that, you can get into CRI, which is a measure of a light source's tendency to distort or misrepresent an object's perceived color compared to natural sunlight. Essentially, the higher the CRI, the closer the object's color under the artificial light will be to its color in natural sunlight. You also alluded to this when you mentioned having to adjust the camera settings so the colors "look right." Great video!

Yeah. Doctors are scares right now. We had a rough time with the left one during the holidays. We're getting back on track for getting them drained. Sadly Doc says that there is a really good chance that they will just come back.
