I have also in the past raised pigs. My biggest problem was I fell in love with them. But we butchered them. I had such a hard time eating their meat. I just kept thinking about them, but that said if I had the opportunity to raise more pigs, I certainly would I just would not get attached.

That would be difficult for me as well... We have to resist, becoming attached! You "can't" name them like a pet... Unless you name the pigs... Food! 😮

Pls could you do a cost breakdown of how much you put into the pigs and the value of the meat that came out, minus processing etc. ?

Hi. Great video, thanks. I raise mangalica pigs in the UK, too. They live in the apple orchard - with first pick of apples in the autumn. You will love the mangalica meat! Top quality! Thanks for taking us along. 😊

I'm glad you said something about rendering the fat! Something else (my family's southern roots are showing here), chitterlings, "hog maw' (the stomach), heart, liver, parts needed for head cheese, etc. "From the rooter to the tooter"!

How much did you pay for the pigs originally, like as piglets? We are looking into getting the same breed but all i see is $350 each for them.

We do ground pork as taco meat. It's great. Give it a shot.

I’m wondering how much you payed for the pig and how much you payed for processing . I did a trade of goats for our Mamgalista pig . She was 166 lbs. normally yiu would pay for the hanging weight which is 166 and it’s 1.10 a pound then to have it cured is more . Iam a wrapper so I don’t have to pay more then 150 for our cut and wrap because I work there . I see hogs come in that are 250-300 lbs and that’s the hanging worth so they pay 1.10 a lb plus the cost of the pig. It gets expensive . We wrap with paper and plastic . The vac seals can tear open . We do vac seal only on special orders as customers want them but it’s a real pain . I would be curious to see the total cost of your pigs .

I think we will try a breed to grows a little faster next time and see the difference, we have been enjoying the meat we raised though

I'm amazed people have pigs roaming their woods and they don't have predator problems? I have coyotes and bobcats with an occasional stray black bear coming through my property.

They use electric fencing to keep predators from the pigs.

Isn't pork butt actually from the front shoulder? That's a ton of bacon haha. My wife and I just bought two kunekune gilts to breed in a few years! Love your videos!

Gauanchali (jaw bacon) is used in some delicious Italian recipes. I think I spelled that wrong but it is special bacon.

I dont think the price per pound matters as much as knowing what it ate, no antibiotics (assuming) and the conditions it lived in

Salt n' Peppa did ya good! They will continue to serve your family for a LONG time to come! Now, for the best bacon. Set oven to 400°. Lay bacon on a baking sheet with parchment paper (not foil). Bake 10 minutes,flip, then bake another 10 minutes. Thank me later 😄

You are really missing out on the offal by the way. Liver is great as is, but also makes great paté, or liver sausage, parts of the skin would make great cracklings, the blood makes great sausage etc. I have a feeling that if you're a bit more adventurous eater, you could have gotten another 20lbs of meat and sausages out of it.
