Hi Danko, Officer candidate here, really looking forward to joining the fleet. When you are at TBS and MOS training, what other allowance do you get other than base pay?
I believe BAS but no BAH unless you’re married - I have a friend who married at TBS currently who doesn’t live off base but makes the BAH bc he’s married. Typically you won’t get the BAH unless you live off base
How would this work for a “Mustang”? I was prior enlisted Marine, I did 4 years on active duty was station out in Camp Pendleton, CA. Do they get pay extra more then those new “🥾” butter bar?
To my knowledge the pay scale is adjusted for priors, so yes, you’d earn a slightly higher pay each month in comparison to officers without prior enlisted service
I would say it’s manageable - that means if you consistently work out and prepare yourself than you should be fine. There will be days when it’s tough, but I don’t think it’s insane or anything too crazy, it’s mostly body weight movements (pull-ups, push-ups, crunches, planks), running, rucking and ammo can lifts. Occasionally weighted running with a rifle. Hope this helps!
Not a lot of Marines will see combat, we’re in peacetime. So I wouldn’t suggest going into a combat mos, I’ve seen 03 marines that never been to a combat deployment throughout their whole career. And it’s also depends on your unit on how often they deploy, I know some unit are not deployable.
to fight a prospective long-range, high-tech, over-water war. The Army can always give us some tanks support, since we’re more of a amphibious we don’t really need tanks. Though it is has been proven to be affective but, in a modern day warfare we have high tech weapon that can take a squad size or platoon size enemy convoy, troops, buildings, another important strategic target that they want to get rid of.
