What attracted me to your channel is the opposite of what I got tired of watching on other channels. As a few examples, there’s a very popular channel that basically visits the same Islands, varying them by beach destinations which I’ve seen on other sites already. Or, food in the buffet every time they walk in, fill their plates to overflowing with a mishmash of food and then deserts. Or too much talk and not enough show. Or touring the cabins as if we’ve never seen one before. Especially the outlets. You, on the other hand, walk along and chat. Try new treats along the way. Stick your toes in cold ocean water and explore a new landscape. You’re regular people who don’t have to make silly faces to make us smile. A lovely couple with a cute sense of humor, like describing Mrs Canuck’s evening attire, while she straightens Mr Canuck out on the shade or color. Love it.
You are both such an open book. Your honesty shines through and your kindness to each other. It is enjoyable to watch the videos and yes, we can "go along" with you on your cruises. You both say "mmhm" alot and to each other- WE have picked this up because we watch you so much!!😂

We always reach out to the cruise line and let them know that we are coming aboard and that we will be filming. Some cruises lines has responded and has done things like a welcome aboard champagne or sent us to a specialty restaurant.
We give you so much credit for bringing your adventures to us, for which we absolutely enjoy. We're not sure how many of us appreciate the work that you put into this. We have to say that we could never put the effort into photographing, editing and producing the videos, albeit that we're in our 70s. When we cruise, that's our off time to enjoy and embrace the journey but kudos to you for bringing us YOUR adventures and sharing all that you enjoy with us. Best success to you and your channel.

I appreciate how open you both are. Money can be a tricky subject as people don’t always want to say how much they earn. But thank you I have always been curious as to how RU-vid works. It was your channel that helped my wife and I prepare for our Jan 2023 Caribbean Princess cruise to the Panama Canal. We discovered you in early 2022 and watched every video you posted. Your videos provided insight into what to expect in cruising. We had taken only one cruise previously and that was way back in 1986. So your videos brought us up to date. Wow that is much higher than I expected too. I’m not monetized yet and to be honest it was not a priority. But my expenses are well over $8000 a year and I make about $100 a year on ads and Patreon so that money would definitely make a difference. Thanks for sharing

@@CruisingCanucks You must be getting very excited for your upcoming Alaska adventure. We absolutely loved our cruise. The excursions we booked in Haines and Juneau were very fun and we ended up booking a ship's excursion once onboard for Ketchikan which was fine, but definitely not as good as the others. I still think you can enjoy this cruise without any excursions as the real star is the scenery. We were on the QE and the speakers and naturalists onboard were fantastic so if your ship offers lectures on Alaska I highly recommend you attend.
What an EXCELLENT and informative video! I am so happy that I found your channel. One quick question if I may....isn't Jerry a TA and if so doesn't he get discounted cruise rates? I especially enjoy your "suitcase diaries" series and your wedding cruise was very informative and especially that you were willing to share such a personal experience. There are several You Tube channels that we followed once upon a time but no longer due because of some of the things you discussed here. You two are a CLASS act and look forward to following you along. We also have moved on from Carnival and now HAL is our favorite line. We live fulltime in our RV and cruise in the winter months our of San Diego. Our first cruise to Hawaii is in January 2024 18 days then in February 2025 we are doing 35 days to French Polynesia and Hawaii as well...retired life is wonderful. Great vlog, the only one I know of that gives the whole-behind-the scenes look onto the You Tube venture. Many people are attempting it, but in my opinion only a few do it well, you are one of those. Your great equipment is part of it, as is your narration. But in my opinion, your greatest strength is the sense of humor, or (humour in Canadian) you impart in every episode. I just found you while searching for Norweigen EPIC vlogs for a "bucket list " Mediterranean cruise I am taking next year with my adult son and several dear friends. I too had cruised on several dozen cruises over the past 40 years with my husband and family and Norweigen was not my favorite- mainly due to their food. Which is why I decided to watch some EPIC vlogs to help decide as they have a great itinarary. You both did a wonderful job showing your Mediterranean Epic cruise experiences from the quality of the food, odd quirky bathroom cabin layout and in general comparing it to different cruise ships . I am learning so much - PLEASE keep up the great work but most important continue to enjoy life together. Sadly my husband didn't live long enough to do his bucket list (he passed away from a long illness at age 63) but he will be with us in spirit. Thank you from a recent NJ subscriber

My son and his family live in Calgary and I’ll be visiting them in a couple of weeks time so I look forward to being able to watch your livestream from there……at a sensible hour. Your videos are the highlight of our day. Its usually coffeetime here, when they come out and we enjoy your very informative vlogs very much. Especially in winter, are your videos an escape to nicer weather. The vlogs from Europe we’re fantastic, because of the new content every day. It’s a little boring to sea the Caribbean every two months again. We did 17 cruises, and the most exciting were Hawaii roundtrip on the NCL Pride of Hawaii (now Jade), the Panama Canal on the Millenium, Eastern Mediterranean on the Jade with overnight stay in Jerusalem and Cairo with a hotel beside the Pyramids. Or the Greek Islands with the Acropolis and the sites of Olympia. Or the Baltic with to days in St. Petersburg (sad, no more Russia), and wonderful tours to the Canaries from Southhampton. Not to forget the Arctic to Spitzbergen (Svalbard) with MSC Meraviglia. To name a few. Next year (unfortunately the time of our group cruise, we booked the Solstice from Hongkong to Singapur with an overnight in Angkor/Cambodia. And we have so many wishes, what we want to see. Your channel will grow quickly, because you make the most incredible work and inform and entertain the same time. If you do another group cruise (may be on the Nile with a precruise stay in Gizah, to see the new Museum and the Pyramids, haha, just an idea), we would probably join you. Thanks Ken. We don’t make more money from the thumbs up and likes. It does, however, help us, because RU-vid sees that and circulates the video towards more people when our video has a lot of comments and thumbs up.

Thanks for the transparency! Not everyone would want to share this information. I know that it can be lucrative, because I do taxes (in US), and I had a client who made over $80K in 2022 from RU-vid and over $10K on Amazon for reviews. Of course, there are a LOT of expenses, but even after taxes, that's pretty darned good income. And you're doing something you enjoy while earning some money for sharing the experience! Keep up the good work! Congrats on the over 5K subscribers!

I found your channel because I booked a cruise on the Norwegian Epic and had never cruised with Norwegian before and heard a lot of negative reviews of the ship but the itinerary was great. Your video was great…it showed all the pros and cons. Unfortunately Norwegian cancelled our Europe sailing in 2024 so I am looking at dipping my toes into the Princess world after only having cruised with Celebrity, Royal and Holland America…we are a couple in our late 40’s, early 50’s…would you recommend Princess? And an edit to this…I am now watching the ads based on your comment section!
We are in the same age group and we LOVE Princess. We are both on a couple as we speak. We will be doing a Mediterranean cruise this fall on the Enchanted Princess. We think that they are the quality of Holland America with more things to do on the ship. In our experiences the staff , food and entertainment has been wonderful.
Those income estimates are always wildy wrong. Different topic niches can have very different CPM/RPM. If the advertisers find your audience more desirable, they'll pay more for the ads at auction. Plus, as you have seen, it can vary from day-to-day and month to month.
We actually filmed some details on CPM but it seemed a little dry and made the video a little longer - but you are correct. Even the CPM in any given niche can vary wildly based on the demand from advertisers. So holiday seasons have higher CPM whereas early January is much lower. We've seen CPM rates from $6 at down times that climb to $24 for the same content - that's huge variability for sure.
Thanks for being straightforward about all the finances, so many you-tubers are so disingenuous about their revenue streams particularly when they are reviewing products without revealing sponsorships. If I divide 1500 hours into $11,000 that looks like just over $7 an hour, I am curious how much of that is production hours like editing and uploading etc, I am guessing the bulk of it. Do you enjoy that aspect of vlogging? Do you find yourselves doing editing work during your cruises rather than relaxing? I am just trying to get an idea of what you sacrifice to take this route. Thanks.
We do no editing work while on a trip. The only work we do while away is responding to comments and posting daily about our journey. The editing side is the most time consuming. Each vlog take approximately 10 hours to produce. We absolutely love vlogging and receiving such positive feedback makes the editing process worth it.
Loved that video, thanks. I am a long-time and satisfied _Cruising Canucks_ subscriber. I appreciated your comments about your early productions being primarily a record for yourselves and your family. I'm still at that stage, and I probably won't move beyond that. Getting a bit old to do many more cruises and traveling to a cruise departure port from NZ is a major and expensive operation. I've done travel videos for a few years now, but they are essentially video slide shows - my primary interest has been and continues to be still photography. As I've learned more about video editing I've been able to make stills come to life a bit with a few zooms and pans and background music. I put my productions on RU-vid only because it's a convenient and free repository and I can give the URLs to some of my family and friends. But most of all, my wife and I just love playing them from time to time on our big TV and re-living our travels. We've only done two cruises, so most of my videos have used photos taken during ground-based international travel.
