Started @ Hyundai straight out of college making $34500yr salary. Left there to work for an independent shop for $48000yr. Left that place to pursue another independent shop that offered $35hr flat rate and swore that I would get 50-70hrs a per week, HUGE mistake. The first week only 3 cars came into the parking lot. After a few months there I noticed the senior tech there averaged about 25hrs a week. Took the opportunity to use the slow work situation to get my degree in CNC designing, programming and machining. Started my own business as a mechanic/machinist. Set for life.

Former Toyota tech here currently a Ferrari tech made 91k last year 2021. Biggest advice I can give is don’t get caught up in the brand like I did. Yes saying your a Ferrari tech is cool but when the guys at Toyota are making almost the same and some are making more than you while working on easier cars you realize you made a mistake lol

I can relate to a Degree. Done 10 years with Nissan and 16 with Mercedes Benz. I actually think I work harder on Mercedes for sure Mentally. Over all I make significantly more with Mercedes however I've been with mercedes 16 years. I've seen a lot of guys from other brands try us out an say F this S#iT in a year or so.

@@arizonalifestylechannel2186 Don’t get me wrong I definitely make more money at Ferrari than I did at Toyota but from what I see these days Toyota techs are making a lot more than back when I was there. Started at ford at 24 years old at $12hr, ended at 31 years at $47 as a senior master technician.Made around 100k putting in 400 into my 401k every week(before taxes). Did that to lower my tax bracket and I would only lose like 200 from take home pay. But that's the problem, how does one get to "diagnose more" when the older/senior techs don't want to teach the newer/younger techs? It's a never ending cycle of failure within the automotive field and the field is loosing more techs year after year because of the lack of growth and learning opportunities, along with pay.

Wages for mechanics in the Philippines, regardless of your certification, is 600pesos per day... Thats roughly $12usd per day... To reduce the echo, you can do the following low-cost solutions: 1: unroll a large rug on the floor just when you record (does not have to be under you, and the fuzzier the better). 2: put some kind of fabric material on the ceiling and/or walls (the fuzzier the better). 3: Put use a directional, cardioid mic. 4: Move the mic closer to you or use a lapel mic. (Fabric materials that resist air being blown through it are NOT as good as the opposite. The fabric should be quite porous.)

So I just found this channel and have been on a watching binge. Regarding taxes, I would strongly encourage anyone who can go independent to do so. Form an LLC and now all of your expenses are business tax educatable. Your tools, your travel to a job, your business insurances, advertising your business, etc. Instead of paying taxes on that 84k you would know pay on the 60k saving you about $7,000 a year (Fed and Ca tax if single) Being a high earning W2 worker is the worst place to be as far as taxes. Great channel.

Thanks man. I’m actually lucky I do RU-vid so it is considered a business. I use that to my advantage when doing my taxes and get to write off a whole lot of things vs just having a W2

Thats really good money for the dealer man, I really wish I ventured into the used car tech side when I was there seems alot easier to make money as the dealer already bought the used cars so the repairs are basically pre approved unless its something major.

Just started off last week as a Lube Tech at Toyota in South Carolina. I make $20/hour first month, then I'll switch to $20 flat rate after the first month. I think our dealership starts off people at $18/hr / flat rate for lube techs, but I asked for slightly higher pay due to 8 months experience as a technician with Amazon; 3 years total with Amazon. Our minimum wage is $7.25, but the cost of living in some parts of South Carolina are growing exponentially while there isn't many Toyota dealerships in my area; so I believe this adds to the higher than usual pay.

Flat rate for toyota just starting out here in nc. Express line. NOT express + 17.50/hr. First month by myself i only made 8hrs in a 12 hour shift working as hard as i could. Now i generally hit the 12 hour mark every day. MY MAIN TIP for someone just starting out is PLAN OUT SERVICES. As a lube tech your going to do the same thing over and over and over again. Write down at home what needs to be done, then figure out how you can be most efficient at every service you do. I dont have to work as hard to make 12hrs rn compared to making 8hrs back then.

What’s really messed up is that this is an Inflated pay scale since Cali cost of living is insane Here in az when I was at Toyota the masters were making only 30 and these were guys who have been there 20+ years I was a lube tech 12$ an hour with all 8 ase under my belt. Year passed by I said fts and went to heavy duty diesel and started at 23$ hourly now (1 year later) raised to 27.50$ an hour and can get 2$ more for Heavy duty ases Yeah I won’t make 100k but if I work later I get my time and a half vs working late with flat rate you’re just working more I don’t need to worry if I snap the head off a bolt and have to burn an hour extracting I get paid the same and they want the job done right plus benefits were wayyyyyy better and I have a 401 and a Roth things that dealerships skimp on that matter to the single guys later in life Another big benefit is no furloughing No worrying about slow times for pay It’s constant and the check never bounces if you’re with a city or major corporation like soda (where Im at)

@@vegaf2011 well my journey was extremely strange One I enrolled in a local automotive community college program Got all 8 ases while going to shcool and working at Toyota like Nick as a lube tech Realized that flat rate is shit and immediately started learning about diesels on my own time via RU-vid and the internet Learn about how air brakes work and how diesels work they are just different from gasoline engines Learn about lift gates, pallet jacks and forklifts Shoot for entry level jobs at places like Penske where they will teach you about pms (preventive maintenance) If you can go and get the truck ases (t series) especially the pm ase it will get you the entry level job easier Just shoot your shot if you show them you have work ethic and integrity and know basics about diesels at least one company will take a chance on you

Been in the industry for almost 10 years, 6-7 of which at Toyota in Canada. Make somewhere around 70-80k CAD which is most definitely less than your 80k USD, not to mention insanely high Canadian taxes for nothing. Don't argue health care with me, its not that great. The 80-100 hours you mention that is low is considered our standard these days. When its busy we can hit maybe 120-150 hours even then you have to work VERY hard and long hours to achieve that. The work is not the same as it used to be. Not sure in the States but here in Canada ECP services are a complete joke. 0.5 hrs for a Service 1 and god forbid you have to rotate oversized LT tires on a tundra. 3-4 years ago It's possible to hit 100k in CAD, similar to 80 in USD. Also where im located you can live very comfortably with 80K USD.
