Thank you for sharing. I’ve been making candles on a small scale for about 10 years. I am learning how to make my craft my business. I loved the info you shared and am so excited to take my craft into the new phase. (I was able to follow everything you shared, you have a very nice voice to listen to and even though the bookkeeping side has been my challenge, you broke it all down and I grasped everything you shared. Thank you)
Brilliant video. Almost at the point of launching and found a few tips in there that I had maybe skipped over/forgotten about. Also laughing (in a nice way) at you using Excel to document and then adding it up on your phone :)
Such a useful video! Thank you 😊 It made me feel better for spending all this money 💰. On top of the things you mentioned I also bought a candle making kit to start with, then some 2 in 1 thank you/business cards and finally booked a few market stalls where I'm hoping to start selling. I can't wait for more videos on your journey. I feel inspired ✨😌
I love how you explain thoroughly the process. It gives me realistic ideas to start on. Please keep on posting vids that could help us small biz owners. Thank you. 😘😘💋
Hi Georgina! Hands down your videos are the best that I’ve came across. Thank you for all that you share. I’m new to your channel and your videos are great! You are such an inspiration.
i think you forgot to mention selling fees and marketing. Paypal, amazon, eBay, Shopify, Etsy, MasterCard, and Visa all have their own sales percentages and/or listing fees. also to sell candles, you're going to need to market it. you can do it for free on social media, but that is hard and can take a long time.
Thank you, just come across your RU-vid channel by accident, best one I’ve seen and British so bonus. Have subscribed as I want to make ,y own candles. Thanks for for complete transparency and honesty. Need to binge watch you now lol.
Thank you for the realistic video! I’m in round 1 and I totally relate to this, not to mention that if you experiment with various waxes and/or jars, the total cost will probably be more than 230.
compared to other businesses, this is actually a rather decent cost of starting a candle business. i am not in the UK, but that's just about what i thought i'd have to invest.. with a few additions. in my country you also have to register your business, which varies from 20-50€ as far as i know. and maybe a couple other things i'd need to pay for if i want to make and sell candles. but if i am gonna do this, i feel like i might ask for consultation from lawyers etc. bc i am scared to do smth wrong tbh and i just wanna be on the safe side as much as possible. definitely gonna try and save up around 1200-1500€ before i get started. why did i have to love the idea of making candles... why not start a clothing or jewelry company or smth instead, which feels a little safer 😂😂😂
Thank you so much Georgina for your really enjoyable and informative videos! I’ve been following your business for a while now and you’ve been a big inspiration whilst I’m starting out my candle company. And actually my costs seems very close to yours (luckily I have a co-owner/partner) who is an accountant who MAKES sure I keep my costs to a minimum 🙈 but I have learnt loads on where to go for packaging and how much to buy in the first stages of selling. So thank you! You’ve really made me feel less stressed now! Well done in your success and I will continue to follow along. All the best, a fellow Georgina x
Ahh hello name twin! 🙋🏻♀️thank you for such a lovely comment, I'm so glad all this is helping you out! Best of luck with your business, I'm sure you'll smash it 💚
this video is really helpful and it gave a clear view of costs and things one should take into consideration before starting a candle business. Thank you so much ma'am .
Thanks so much for this breakdown!. I'm currently living in Florida but we are moving back to the UK later this year so I found this information very helpful. Cheers!
very useful and eye opening video that was straight to the point and honest! thank you so much for making such quality content that is useful to those who are starting or thinking about starting a candle business
I am in the process of starting a candle business and I feel like evaluating the scents you want to include will give you more costs as you need to order samples and might not like some of the scents. And FO is one of the most expensive components when making candles. I have currently spent around 940 £ and have not finished testing yet :-)
Fantastic Thank You , extremely helpful , although I haven’t decided if I am going to sell or not , as only purchased kits to make candles for my family for Christmas 😊
Great video! I think it would've been useful if you mentioned tax as well rather than the gross revenue but that's just a personal opinion and I know taxes is quite a complex (AND long!) topic to cover in just one 20 mins video x
Thanks 😊 as well as taxes being a big topic it also varies completely from country to country and I only have experience in the UK, where as a business it still varies greatly depending on how you’re set up i.e sole trader, limited company etc. so I thought better to not try get in to it lol.
Thanks Laura ☺️ haha to be fair if you’ve already mastered a good candle then your half way there already! But I know what you mean, it can definitely feel daunting taking that leap of faith in turning it into a biz 😅
Fantastic video! Spot on! I feel that I am on the right track. I started with candle making kit I think same one I’ve seen a peek of in on one of your videos 🙂 most of my supplies arrived today but my 10kg of wax, fragrances and colours will be here in couple of days as they’ve been ordered from couple websites that you actually mentioned in another video. So far I’ve spend about £240 plus £220 for trademark application but this amount don’t include shipping out, insurance and labels/stickers yet. I thought I hold of on the stickers until I create a scent combo etc as they will have to include my brand as well as fragrance name etc. Can’t decide what is better having them printed by the same company that printed my business cards or print them myself... any advice on type of printers etc. I have one that uses ink but you mentioned thermal label printer how does that compare etc?
Hi there, love your channel, I have learnt lots. could you pls do a video of how you calculate how much it cost to make 1 candle to match how much to sell it for? I can not find a UK calculation. thanks
Well done 👍 Excellent video, covered almost everything for a new starter. Very clear in terms of costing and packaging. I have seen, so many misleading vedios saying you can start a candle business with 50 pounds, which I think is not realistic, because there so many things that you have to buy before even start and then the insurance on top of that , how do you spent just 50 pounds? It's clear that something is not quite right, but your vedeo is excellent I have to say. Please post more videos like this in the future Thanks for sharing and good luck Well done👍
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it especially as this video took quite some time to film and edit and I really wanted to give a somewhat accurate picture of the initial costs 😊 I’m hoping to get some more tutorial type videos like this one up soon! If there’s anything in particular please let me know 👌🏼 All the best ☺️
Thank you for this video. It was really helpful and let me know that I am on the right track. If I may ask, how many different/looks of vessels should one start with? I’ve heard to start with at least 2 sizes. Are people (customers) expecting to have multiple looks to choose from?
You’re welcome, so glad it helped you out ☺️ personally we only launched with 1 size and only just recently have had customers asking if we can do other sizes as well! So I’d say until you’ve built up a customer base 1 should really be enough but it’s up to you 👍
@@IvyTwineCandles That’s helpful. I guess it also makes the testing process quicker only having to test 1 for now as opposed to 2 or 3. Thank you so much for replying xxx
Great video! Do you think the net income is worth the time spent for everything involved? Seems like maybe $10-$20 USD/ hour? What would you estimate the pay per hour being?
Thank you for this useful video. It will be great if you could tell us about insurance. I have researched a little bit but I could not understand what kind of insurance I had to have. Thank you for your answer in advance
Thanks Ashley 😊 Things are quite a bit different here in the UK so you don't need to have a business entity to get started, you can act as a 'sole trader' (not sure of how things work in the US I'm afraid!). But we did choose to register as a private limited company which I believe is the same or similar, but it only costs a small amount of £ to do that here!
Hi It's a very good video in the candle space. I plan to start and I live in Berlin. Would like to know the EU LEGISLATION for candle and frangrant oil restrictions and clp label format. Can you help ? Also the billing process
Thank you so much for this video! How do you pack the candles when a customer place an order. Also how much do you charge for shipping? Our there any return policy?
Hello! You're welcome :) I think I covered most of this in the 'How i ship my orders' video so feel free to check that out. Our returns policy can be found on our website too, hope that helps 👌
Your videos are so helpful! Thanks for that :) just wanto to know how much jars I need for the testing phase? You took around 120 jars, do I need so many just for testing?
Aww thank you! I’m so glad you think so ☺️ in my experience it’s not uncommon to need 2 - 3 jars per fragrance that I’m testing, which is why I allowed for 20 extra 👍 always better to have a few spare than run out I guess haha! X
Is it too much fragrance oil to add? I usually add 30ml per 0.5kg wax (1oz per Ib) to make two 8oz candles. 4kg fragrance oil to make 100 candles. Oops. I found it out it's similar.😲
