Yes, I need to do more things of that nature. That video was really Emily’s idea; she said people would find it interesting and she was right. She had never heard of such things until she moved here.

I think that exploring different parts of Calgary and the oddities of the place would make for a bunch of great videos. Quarry Road, Sandstone Buildings, etc, etc.

Great video - it's always best to do things for fun over money (especially RU-vid!). My oldest RU-vid account is from 2007 and I only really started uploading on my current one around 2020-ish? It's certainly hasn't made me "rich" - but the journey of creating videos has been very rewarding. Learning new skills, giving people something to watch that interests them - that is a non-monetary award that is immeasurable. That stated - it is a nice "side-hustle" as the skills develop and the audience grows. It took me about a year and a half of uploading every week before I started getting enough revenue to pay for the occasional meal at a restaurant.

I'm really happy you've got to the monetization mark, mate!! From what I've seen, you need to be in the 13-15000 subscriber mark to cover daily life costs. I'm looking at growing mine this year, especially with the additional drone footage. I don't need to get to the monetization level, but I'd like more than 50 subscribers or however many I have now lol I'll be out more this summer because in my new place I'm not parking on the street in the beltline, so I don't have to worry about my space getting taken. Keep growing mate, you know I'm a local viewer :) Now I need to grow mine a bit, but I'm working on it.

Best of luck to you. I'm sure we'll inevitably bump into each other at some point out there. I keep my eye open for the FOTOMAN license plate and I'm sure you can guess what my plate is. At least getting some money is better than nothing. Fact is, it is fun and that's the reason for it. Making a living at it is a pipe dream, especially for people like me who don't have a focus and make videos on whatever catches our attention on any given day.

Yep, I am getting close to 5K subs and it is still not anywhere near profitable. You definitely have to be in it because you love doing it or you will get depressed and burnt out very quickly. Keep up the good work. You are doing great.

Luck of the draw with the algorithm. I think we'll see subscriber count matter less and less going forward. Views are what really show RU-vid that people are engaging with the content.
