My son asked me recently whether I regretted not starting a RU-vid channel earlier. The answer is YES. If you want that career path, start it now, because it's getting harder. My channel started off as a hobby and now I earn more than I did working 9-5:30 / 5 days a week. As Noel says, you work at it 7 days a week, but it is rewarding. If you find your perfect job, you'll never have to work another day of your life. Most travel RU-vidrs are in their 20s/30s, perfect hair, perfect complexions etc. and seeing the world before they settle down with a family. At 64 I'm past that stage. If I can do it, anyone can... it's hard work, but great fun.

Hi, Noel. I'm an American who has lived some of HM's commonwealth countries before returning to the US. Upon returning, I (like you) chose Texas because of work. I spent several years in a suburb of Houston similar to yours, but absolutely hated it. Urban planning seems to not exist. Summers are hellish. Texas pride is a facade, as I've never, ever seen a place so eager to destroy nature and history to make a quick buck. The locals weren't particularly friendly. So, you and I seem to have had pretty different experiences overall. I just moved to another Southern state and, well, the history, weather, nature, people, and even airports are much more to my liking. The great thing about the US is, we're so big, you're bound to find your niche somewhere. I'm glad that you seem to have found yours.

@JustinWatson23
@JustinWatson23 10 месяцев назад
I agree, i've never sat in an economy seat and thought wow this is so much better than the normal economy seat. Theres really no innovation in economy, other than how can they squeeze more economy seats in. I'm also always amused when people say they'd rather fly on an A380....... in economy. Nope Pass, they are all bad.

@@JustinWatson23economy is fine for anything under 4 hours. I fly it 8 to 10 times a year. I book a window seat headphones on for music or a movie. I never even get out my seat until we land. I can’t understand why people as soon as they are on a plane cannot sit still for a couple of hours.
@JustinWatson23
@JustinWatson23 10 месяцев назад
@@robotsonmars1989because for me it causes a lot of pain being unable to straighten my legs and having constant pressure on my knees from the seat in front. 4 hours is bearable, anything longer and it’s not. Let’s be honest though the only reason people tolerate even only is because of price. Some people will have no issues with being in constant pain if they save a few dollars. I would rather pay a little more but there aren’t really options. If I can afford to I will flue premium but many routes do t have it.

My pleasure in helping people with flying issues. I have traveled the world and the only issue I have had was a Emirates flight landing at Dubai airport. A minute or so from landing the 4 huge engines of our A380 were powered up to full power or near enough. My wife looked at me and I said “ We are doing a go around,there will be an issue on the runway”. The captain came quite quickly on to the intercom and apologised for the delay but Air Tower had instructed us to carry out a go around due to an aircraft not clearing the runway. That cost the airline for the excess fuel used but as you see safely ALWAYS come first. Ow I did fly back seat in a F4 Phantom fighter. Flying low level at 500 miles an hour now that is exciting and I was so lucky.

I’m an avid avgeek myself and as an autistic guy I think people can think I’m just a geek with no emotions but I’m actually pretty sensitive and anxious a lot of the time. I struggle with my mental health a lot too and avation has been one of the most inclusive and accepting communities I’ve found. I’ve never had a bad experience with airline staff at all really even if I ended up panicking and struggling throughout the flight they have been amazing 9/10 times. I’ve always felt a bit daft being into aviation but also struggling with change and the whole experience of travel but I completely agree with your advice to learn as much as you can, knowledge is power 100% no matter what flight you’re on physics is on your side, planes want to fly at the end of the day and that’s a damn good baseline if you ask me. Definitely one of my favourite videos of your Noel, also as a fellow Brit your food choices are elite. Can’t beat some fish and chips with some monster munch.

Great video - reminds me of my own trips (MAN to Amsterdam and to Paris) to renew Air France gold status - best moment when landing at CDG and cabin staff advising of gate numbers for transfer passengers with destinations in alphabetical order and coming to “M” and getting confused why a passenger was transferring to where the flight had just come from ! Still had enough time to nip into town and get some nice chocolates for my wife !

Thanks for the open and honest commentary! I'm one of those many others who dream of being a full-time RU-vidr and you're one of my inspirations to actually do this. We're still a small channel but hope to grow soon. And you're so right about economy class vs business class videos - I've got two flight reviews on my channel, one economy and one business class. The business class video got about 2000 views in less than a week, but the economy one took 15 weeks to reach 2000 views. People love seeing products that seem out of reach to them. Good luck for the future too and I'm looking forward to seeing South America! We were supposed to go to Peru in 2020 which was cancelled and we've not had the chance to re-schedule yet 😢

My partner had a fear of flying so we booked her on a Fear of flying course. We did it at Luton airport but they probably do it at other airports and it takes you through the whole process from start to finish they even take you up and fly around the airport then land again. Can't remember how much it was but it was very much worth it.

I feel that travelling by plane today is safeer than years ago. I remember when there seemed to be crashes all of the time. In the 70's when I was asked to be a flight attendant for TWA there were crashes often & I did think of that. Today, we don't hear of a crash very often. I have to agree with you that the people in Texas are extremely friendly. I lived in the Woodlands, but no matter where we went, Houston, Conroe or the area where my late hubby worked, everyone was friendly. The first time we walked into a restaurant & were greeted with "How y'all ?" we knew we were in a good place, Our neighbors were so nice. So Rach's parents moved with you? That's very nice. Texas is defiitely a lot warmer than other places in the US. I also love Rach. I feel like I could sit & have a nice chat with her over tea or a glass of wine. I also have mobility issues so we have that in common. I enjoy your videos as I get to see places I will never visit & different classes in planes I would never see.

Running your own business, no matter what it is, is very hard work. Not only do you have; “the work”, you also have the other work of: running the business. So it’s effectively 2 jobs rolled into 1. 3 if you’re the tea-boy as well (like I am). So I tip my hat to anyone who runs their own business. People just see the nice side to it: the ability to take days off when you want (even tho I work 7 days a week, about 364 per year, but right, “the ability” to take a day off is AMAZING!). And in your case Noel, people see you living it up in an Emerates first class seat and think you’ve got the life of Riley. I know that behind the scenes a lot of blood, sweat, and even more tears went into that video! Amazing story, and enjoy your success, you’ve more than earned it!!! I’m truly in awe!

Really appreciate you talking about fears related to flying. I'm an anxious flyer but I travel pretty often so I've encountered a lot of diverted flights (which is also *sarcastically* great for the weather diverted ones because I'm terrified of Thunderstorms :( ). That's a fantastic tip too and in hindsight it's sort of how I started watching aviation youtube videos! Having a good context can be a really great relief!

Hi Noel, really enjoy your travels. This one reminded me that back in the late 80s BA did something called Fun Flights which you booked through a travel agents for a fairly low price, turn up at Heathrow on the day of your booking to find out which European Destination you would have an out and back day trip! Did this as my very first experience of flying and had round trip to Amsterdam on a 757. During the flight cabin crew checked for anyone with Fun Flight booking and we had look in the Cockpit. Those were the days….

I remember that. I think it was like 19-29 pounds, and I think they even kept your passport to force you not to leave the airport during the wait for the return flight. Maybe some free food in the airport, too. It was totally random depending on the flight availability that day, but I guess they guaranteed to get you home that day.

Probably unrelated to your One World goals, but DeviantOllam just left Delta for Alaska Airlines. People seem to be raving about it, and it is part of One World. I don't know much about American, BA, Cathay, Iberia, JAL, or the others... I know Business Class on Qatar is pretty awesome! But just look at DeviantOllam's videos on Alaska/Delta in the last 3 months and that may help you see if Alaska would work for you... probably not but worth a mention.
