I'm glad you enjoyed it. I find the information interesting too. Though, I wish I could understand why one video would do better than another lol. I don't get that sometimes. In fact, sometimes, I feel like I've got a great video that'll perform really well and then it flops and then another video that I was like less in love with, but was kind of out of ideas so did anyway, will like BLOW UP lol. So like, there's no point in really trying to understand the algorithm haha.
I enjoyed hearing about your days as a farm radio show host. Perhaps those will be the days you look back on and think “what a ride 😎” hehe 🤭 Yeah the MakerSpace platform by Michael’s sounds pretty sketchy. When I first started watching crochet content on RU-vid this year I was one of those people that thought the prices were ridiculously high for some plushies. And it was videos like yours that have helped educate me on what people are actually paying for (handmade, quality, uniqueness, time). Your ‘why the crochet market is completely broken’ video is how I found you :) wishing you a more fruitful second year on RU-vid ✨💰
Yeah, I can absolutely see why you'd think $30, $40, $50 or more dollars for a plushie is a little extreme for sure. But as you said, the time, materials, and just the love and quality behind each plushie really helps justify the cost. And think of it this way, you can go to Walmart and pay $10-$20 for a t shirt, but if you want something extra fancy or a special brand, you can easily pay $50-$70+ for a t shirt just because of where it's from. Crochet plushies are like the fancy designer clothes, and store bought plushies, while just as cute in a lot of cases, are the Walmart version of what we do! And of course, there's just so much that goes into a business outside of the time and money it takes to make the product. I have subscriptions and things I have to pay for the keep my business running lol. My website alone is $36 a month. Canva to make all my marketing materials is $13 a month. I pay for Etsy Plus, that's $5 a month. I use the premium version of Davinci Resolve to edit my RU-vid videos, that was $300. The overhead can be quite high for some businesses, even when you work from home. I'm very glad to hear I'm explaining those kinds of things in a way that is actually resonating with people though!!! Sometimes, I feel like I'm coming off a little condescending, but it's just passion for my business/industry and I just want people to understand how this all works because it came be a lot more than people think!!! And it's especially important to understand this kind of information if you ever plan to start a business, even if it's not a crochet business, yourself!! And a lot of the people who watch my channel have those aspirations!!! I feel like Makerplace is a bit sketch too. Of course, I could be completely wrong. But I think the best course of action, at least for me, is to sit back and watch what happens over the next year or even few years. They WILL get called out SOMEWHERE if they steal someone's designs. And that's what I want to be sure of isn't happening before I join the platform. Also, I liked my job at the radio station. It was a good time. And honestly, an easy job. It's just a lot easier to be on the radio talking to people than on camera talking to people haha. Though, the radio is live so that's awkward sometimes. At least I get to edit my RU-vid videos haha. But I won't lie to you, I've posted the unedited versions of videos before accidentally, and that's awkward too hahaha.
@@WorksofWhimsyCrochetCo There are people who will take your opinion as a personal attack no matter how you come off, unfortunately. So I think it’s great that you’re passionate and honest about how you feel with pricing and business-related decisions. Your personality and how you speak is what makes me come back to your videos. Most popular crochet RU-vidrs come off as super sweet and all smiles and positivity, which is lovely too, but I get tired of it sometimes, personally. Watching your videos feels more like watching a ‘real’ person. Not that the other gals aren’t ‘real’.. but.. you know what I mean? 😅
