HOW MUCH MONEY I MAKE AS A JUNIOR DOCTOR IN THE UK 🇬🇧 | HOW MUCH MONEY DO DOCTORS MAKE (MY PAYSLIP)
I get asked the question, "HOW much money do doctors make" every other week on social media and especially as an IMG; International medical graduate from Nigeria, this is particularly important especially when planning to pack up and leave your home country to move to a new environment. I'll be explaining how much money I make as a junior doctor in the UK, what contributes to my doctors payslip and the deductions.
hopefully, this video is insightful for people considering a move to the UK as International medical graduates. I am trying to be as transparent as possible so we can plan for our financial futures.
I am currently working as an FY2 which would typically be the second year post graduation from medical school even though I graduated from medical school about 5 years ago

Please don't make the mistake of converting any of these figures to naira if you are from Nigeria. That is a VERY rookie mistake. The cost of living is very very different. House rent here for example is about £1200 monthly for a very tiny space while that amount of money converted to naira would get you a very nice 3 bedroom flat in a nice area for A YEAR!

I think London is exceptionally expensive like any other city. You will get a mini flat for a similar price in VGC or many places in Lagos Island. But yes for 1200 pounds you can get a 3 bed room flat in some part of Lagos mainland but I doubt you will find 3 bedrooms for that price on the Island!

For a year The amount you'd use in the UK for a tiny house for a month will got for big 3 bedroom in Nigeria for a year

Doctor, you wanna consider going to Australia, you would earn double in Australia and what you earn here, here in the UK, they just tax you to death here , plus it's a crap place to live and work, cold place. You get more sunshine in Australia and the climate is so much better, and you pay would be double .

There isn't much to say about it. When you get offered employment , Just mention your overseas experience to them and you'd get the form to fill out

Just mention it to your trust HR when you get offered employment and they will give you all the details and what to submit.

hi i finished my internship in 2019 april after that , studied for pg entrance exam for almost 2 yrs because of covid ,the exam got delayed .currently working as a medical officer- 6months does gap make a problem in getting a job in uk?

Hello. No it doesn't. You just have to explain why you weren't practicing for the period. So you can say you were on vacation or something

@@DrHunnay Okay, does that mean you get to work in the UK as an FY2 doctor for only one year? Does that mean you'll.come back to Nigeria 😩 What if you want to move further with your career, like become a consultant or so, would you have to renew your contract?

@@chubauloma I can move forward with my career regardless. If I want to, I can renew the contract with my employers, if not, I just have to give them a month notice and drop a resignation letter. There are many trusts and many jobs available so you don't have to go back to Nigeria if you don't want to. If you want to become a consultant, you just need to write the relevant exams and apply for training positions and start your training once you get in. I hope this helps.

@@chubauloma the visa lasts as long as you have a job. Your employers sponsor your visa. So if you decide to change employers, the new ones would need to sponsor your visa and you will get a new BRP... which is a residence permit
