@@ohkayw I reinvest all my dividends right now. To spark up the compound interest and the snowball effect. But technically speaking yes, I still collect, I just throw them right back in to receive a bigger dividend paycheck next cycle due to me purchasing more shares because of the reinvestment plan and the drip I have setup

I don’t understand SCHD. Yield is 3.42%. Someone explain why more than half the portfolio is invested in such low yield.

Because growth is more important than yield in the beginning. Once you transition to living off dividends, then you switch from growth to yield.

looks like tax was not considered here, living expenses = dividend income is not the break point where you can live off of dividend income because tax will chop some of it down even further. How is dividend earnings taxed? thanks

I'm a bit confused by something: at 0:48, your investment dashboard shows the total market value of your portfolio at $163,171 and considering the date this was posted, this seems to be at the start of March, 2024. Now, looking at 15:46, the forecast chart shows it starting at $162,500, which is very close to your current portfolio value, except the date says Jan 2023, over a year ago, and when you find March 2024, it forecasts the Account value to be ~$220,187. What am I missing?

I asked this a while back but did not have the time to follow up with it. I assume this is in a brokerage account not an IRA if you are able to add what you add each month. What then are taxes like on all of the dividends you are generating (very well I might add)? Does this not eat into what your total return is month after month? Also with cap gains? Do you sell off some losses to offset? I really like dividend growth investing but am wondering about the taxes side of it.

I’m still confused about why anyone would focus on dividends and not growth. It’s less tax efficient and provides 0 benefits, and has a lower return over the long run before you even consider taxes. Edit: I understand the point once you’re actually living off of them, but why not use growth stocks until then, sell them, and then buy dividends?

Real Estate is good because interest rates are high? What about all that commercial real estate? hmm. You would make more by putting the full 160k into short term US Treasuries that are paying >5% which is better than what you are getting now. You are getting around 5k for 160k of assets? @ 5% with Treasuries on the full 160k your looking at more like 8k for the year. Treasuries also have some tax advantages like not being subject to State tax and depending on your state that can be big. Really hard to beat Treasuries right now.

U sound like a young guy. U should be more growth oriented right now, of course depending on ur situation. If u have no short term use for these assets, u might look at growth oriented holdings such as Nvidia, Palantir, maybe some other semi conductor stocks such as Marvell and AMD. U may also consider increasing ur positions in Microsoft and Apple. A growth or growth and income oriented strategy can enhance ur portfolio value over time and thus allow u to switch to a dividend strategy when ur older. Of course, be mindful of all risks when investing and diversify ur holdings to reduce risks.

@Dividendology earnings to equity costs are horrid since the great global money print caused by moderation in global interest rates and oversized growth in ever deeper pools of capital chasing too few valuable assets higher in value, while earnings have not kept apace. Indeed the global economy has not kept apace rises in asset values. I believe equities will step down, only held by the deep pools of capital. Is a reason Buffet and Corps sit on piles of cash. The world is ovwrinveated against diminishing demand dynamics not least of cost push inflation from easy credit terms for those able to borrow pushing up assets for which they want income. But their is a divergence between values and yields have continued to decline proportionally. Just don't see the buying proposition for equities until a substantial dip, ....along with trends toward deglobalizarion I see emphasis of finance and refocusing on the Real, rather than financial economy. When the dip comes? One need be careful what one chooses, to be sure, for the purpose of income, to place capital on the right side of what is trending. Finance and Globalization are abject failures.
