Nobody can experience every classic game (or game, period) they would have at the very least given a 7/10 in their lifetime. It can be a daunting thing to decide what to try next. It’s too bad when you have high hopes for a game and end up not liking it, but that’s just how it is sometimes. The Wild Thornberries… now you’re REALLY taking me back! You love taking me back, don’t you? It’s a shame you didn’t like Siren, but because I take your recommendations very seriously I will lower it on my horror bucket list. I’m just about to beat the hard mode of Clock Tower 3 and I’ve loved every second of it and Alyssa. I loved Haunting Ground (which, like with Rule of Rose, I played with a Free McBoot memory card and a reproduction disc. Sorry not sorry!) so IDK WHY I didn’t get Clock Tower 3 immediately after completing Haunting Ground! I should really play the original two Clock Towers for the PS1 soon. As for Kingdom Hearts 3, the ending was everything I had hoped for, but everything before it sucked ass! You paid five-zero-zero for Persona 2? I would have paid for a reproduction disc lol. Legend of Dragoon is going on my bucket list if it’s your fav on the console! How long do I give a game? All the time in the world in my case. Contrast that with the ten percent of players who never even reached the RPD in the Resident Evil 2 Remake…… Is a game like Rule of Rose with (combat most people hate because it might have gone a little overboard with making you feel powerless) but it didn’t bother me, it just felt like Silent Hill to me but the enemies weren’t designed around the controls sucking so they could easily overpower you) worth seeing through to the end to get the best story for any horror game in history, even better than Silent Hill 2’s? A thousand percent YES! That is a great example of a game I feel so sorry for people who did not see it through to the end!
I finish every game I start unless it becomes tedious which only happens on the odd occasion because I usually know enough about a game before I buy it to know I will like it. I generally commit to my games until I see the credits and I've curated my collection down to mostly games that I know I will want to replay several more times in the future. However, I play several games at once on rotation so that I always have variety and something to suit my mood or energy, so I don't get burned out or start thinking about how much I want to play the 'next' game.
Legend of the dragoon was one of my favorites for ps1 as well! Over the years, I've gone back a few times to replay it and still love it. Generally, the amount of time I give a game to tell if I like (and want to keep playing) varies depending on the genre. As you mentioned, rpgs can take a little longer to form a good option. But games that tend to be less story driven, like fighting games and racing, I don't take as long to choose to play through or put down. Great topic and video!
Your enthusiasm is awesome and with you being a pretty gal with great topics, I'm hooked. There is NO WAY that I could ever doze off watching you! EnErGY +++
I played a lot of Rpg's. I had to make peace with the fact that I will sacrifice playing 3-4 games in the same timeframe that it took me to complete those games, but it was well worth in the end.
I spend hours on JRPG's and games in general but after a good amount of time I make my final opinion and usually I keep it finish it and have fun. But rare times I move on and sell it. Cool video. ^_^
Honestly sometimes I think I give games too many hours or too many chances, especially now with digital storefronts and the ability to redownload some of your previous purchases. I'll always give any game at least a couple of hours but a lot of times if I'm not vibing with the game early on, not much is going to change my mind even if I play it for 100 more hours. With those games I have what I like to call my "done" point, where I'll reach a point in a game and literally say to myself, "Yeah, I'm done." Any sort of motivation is just gone. This happened to me with the Shadow of the Colossus remake on PS4. I had just beat the 3rd or 4th Colossus and I just had zero interest in continuing on in the game and have never gone back to it.
I'm glad we share the same sentiments on Kingdom Hearts III. We waited SO long, and for what? A terrible story and I think there are even fewer worlds than in the second game. I don't have the game fresh in my mind, but while I too did platinum it, I am never gonna beat it again. There are way too many shills defending this piece of crap.
My time frame depends on the quality of the game, the first hours needs to hook me. That’s why i like demos, so i don’t have to buy something in order to discover if im going to like it or not.
A fun video. I would say that if you ever decided to replay Star Ocean 2, you could use the other protagonist character and recruit a different set of companions to change it up. But I can see why you might want to let it alone. Sometimes I put a game down after a few hours, especially when it really does not grab me or the systems are frustrating. A good example of this might be Ephemeral Phantasia on PS2. Sometimes I get 15 to 20 hours in and then realize or decide that I just don't like the game and I quit playing. This happened to me with Valkyrie Profile 2 on PS2. Lastly, I sometimes lose interest in playing an rpg at that point just before the beginning of the end game and I run out of steam and never get back to finish. This happened to me with Fallout 4 on PS4. These days, I don't buy any games that are not on a steep discount and so I don't feel too bad about not playing through everything I purchase, although there are occasional exceptions.
Im with you on Star Ocean 2. I had a ok time initially but then the last boss has such an insane difficulty spike I had to tap out and continue with my other games like Galerians (underrated title btw) Sometimes I settle with just watching the end of the game on RU-vid to spare me another 10 hrs of grinding a RPG to beat the last boss 😅
@DeeGee2009 Birdman was a pain but hes not bad if you use certain drugs...god that sounds bad that game is so freaking weird 😄 By the way what are some underrated PS1 games you dont hear about often in the collecting community? Im going to a convention next Saturday and I want to pick up some weird and cool games for PS1 haha
@DeeGee2009 Awesome thanks ill keep an eye out for them especially legend of Legaia since I want a cool RPG to play after im done Wild Arms. I really want Thousand Arms or Valkrye Profile as one of my big purchase games in the near future for sure. Thanks!
10:24 You sounded like both, Phil and Lil from Rugrats! 😂 I find I don't have as much tolerance anymore. I start an RPG, then just want to chuck on an arcade type game and blast some sh**! Like, I've never had the patience to finish a Zelda game 🤭 usually I get stuck, I get bored then just stop playing and think about all of the other games I could be halfway finished by that time.
I usually play new games for like a week and then put it aside for months and then go back to it, only to find out I forgot what to do in the game and be forced to start from the beginning again just to figure out what to do. That’s happened to me 3 times with the legend of Zelda wind waker, and now if I want to finish that game i have to now start over a fourth time. lol.
You seem to have very similar gaming tastes to my own, and your collection feels like looking into a mirror. Your PS1 hoard might have mine beat, though. Something about living in Canada always felt like a disadvantage for collecting obscure gems/jRPGs. You'd so rarely see them in the wild, even in the 90s. Normies played the most bog-standard, mainstream games, and retailers didn't often take risks. Most of the heavy hitters in my collection had to be ebayed from the US, at higher costs.
@@DeeGee2009 A nearly impossible question for me to answer. 😂 I love so many PS1 games for different reasons. RPGs would be the hardest genre to choose a favourite, but Suikoden 1/2 would be high up my list. For 2D platformers, I've never stopped enjoying Tomba, Klonoa, or SOTN. Whatever genre Kings Field 1/2 are (first person action RPG?) those lonely, eerie games gave me a "feeling" that no other games ever have. Not even their clunky controls can detract from the enjoyment I get from FromSoftware's early work. I could go on all day, though.
I always give a game a good try. Even if I don't like it when I start it more often than not they will grow on me. Very very rare I will put less than 4-5 hours into a game before I decide whether I like it or not. Some of my favourite games I didn't like at first but ended up putting hundreds of hours into and became some of my favourite games.
My first impressions of Resident Evil and FFVII on PS1, and Morrowind on Xbox, had me thinking they were bad games. But I tried them all again on another occasion and all three have now spent nearly a quarter of a century in my top 10 favourites ever.
It depends on the game how long I give it. RPG's I do try and give it a good run before deciding to shelve it. It could be quick if after 5-10 hours I can't get into the story or the gameplay is just that bad.
Darn gravity. It causes games to fall over 😊😂. A lot of people found kingdom hearts 3 very disappointing. But the 4th is coming. Hopefully that one will be better. I haven't played the series in awhile but it is good for the og and the 2nd one. Love that the Disney characters are in the games.
A franchise you like is one thing, but do you ever find yourself "pushing through" because you like the story of a game? I played AMY a couple years back, and while I agree with the critics that it was dogshit, the story still compelled me to keep going.
Because I like the story? Technically I grew to love Legend of Dragoon and my first playthrough was rough because I wasn’t that great at the additions “yet”. So, I would say that’s one example.
Sadly I've had a moment where in five minutes I knew I wasn't going to like a game. Deathtrap Dungeon. I put it in, realized how it controlled and noped right out. It's a control scheme I can NOT do. I just can't. I picked up Kingdom Hearts 3 Deluxe Edition myself, but besides Olympus, I don't know how the game is, because the last KH game I played before that was KH2. I got halfway through that 300 something days one, but never beat it. Never got to play Birth by Sleep or Dream Drop Distance. So I have no idea what is going on in the story at all, and it was so clear that I was missing story beats that I just put it down. As for a game I forced myself through that I hate. I'm sorry. Zelda Wind Waker is crap. The sailing is boring, the dungeons are uninteresting, two being basically escort missions, the story is meh, and the final boss plays out like a tutorial battle. It was garbage. If it hadn't been a Zelda game, I wouldn't have bothered.
Wind Waker isn’t for everyone, I definitely understand that. It’s my favorite LOZ title, lol. No worries though! Haven’t played Deathtrap Dungeon. Kingdom Hearts is such a convoluted story line. It can definitely be confusing if you missed any of the games in the franchise.
@@DeeGee2009 Yeah I'll return to KH3 when I've finally gotten to play the games before it so I have at least SOME understanding of the story. And yeah Wind Waker is a lot of people's favorite, but man it's like how I enjoy Parasite Eve 2 when you don't. Clicks with one of us, but the other of us just can't deal with it. XD
