We always hear that "Hand-Built" engines are superior, but are they really? How much horsepower does a 19 year old, beaten down Mercedes AMG car lose after 178,000 hard miles? These are all questions I had and since I have an automotive RU-vid channel, I made a video of the results. This is the World's Cheapest AMG car ever sold. I paid $200 running, driving and with a clean title. The car may not look pretty but I love it. Enjoy and don't forget to like and Subscribe.

Your AMG drivetrain still has a great deal of life based upon this dyno. Why not find a clean rust free C280 W202 (Texas or Florida) and take the drive train, suspension, wheels and salvageable interior parts from the C43 and transplant them to body of the C280. Unlimited number of RU-vid episodes could be generated...Always enjoy your Vlogs!

I too would be curios to see what a good basic tune would do for a neglected car. If you're going to turn it into an enduro car it will need a good tune anyways right?

Soild content every time! The Frankenstein exhaust sounds great! $120 is a good price because these guys apparently know their stuff. Im just guessing it isn't smart to pay $120 inspection on a $200 car however with all of the housing materials used in the body kit of that car I hope there isn't any asbestos in it! :)

Haha, my pre purchase inspection was turning the key, hearing it run and go into gear and then offering 200 bucks, haha. But ya $120 is so cheap and can save someone thousands in future repair costs from buying a total lemon. Alex

Alex love all your videos. I’m in chicago also and been wanting to dyno my 2003 C32 and 2015 E63 4matic. Does the car shop you highlighted with your 43 have an all wheel drive dyno???

I'm actually surprised how bad that is. a NA E420 makes 280hp, and a 300E-24 makes around 220hp.. this is a AMG 4.3 litre V8 with NA 302hp.. that's around 70hp less wow

C43 m113 made 302 to the crank. The e430's m113 made 280ish to the crank. Those numbers are very good to the wheels. The c43's m113 was modified by AMG to make the extra 30hp but still retain the reliability. I bought one at 118k miles and have beat the poo out of it. It's got 180k now and still running great. Same oil consumption it had when I got it.

I have a 1987 300 SDL and a 2002 S430 Love them both very much I did just buy a 2015 Ford Focus ST though Which is a huge difference from my 2 big boaty S classes lmao Still fun to collect all these cars I wish I could find a stick shift Mercedes But I'd have to import one

Mercedes got a lot of great engines. M119, M112, M120 some people even say M104 is better than the 2jz thats a good start for comment section war. And in stroked version probably is... As for the M119 engine Sauber C9 with TT is a good witness how potent m119 is. But some say head doesnt flow as good as m113

xdanano the m119 is a 32v the m113 is 24v pretty sure the m119 flows better? The Cauber C9 was enough proof that it was a beast of an engine. Winning the 24 he of leman 1&2nd place in 88-89. Unfortunately the m113 came due to cost reductions for Chrysler and Mercedes. I've had a M112 in my 99 w202 great engine but nothing crazy. Go pop a valve cover off an M119 and compare it to an m113 you will know what I mean.

Alex, have you thought about doing a series on bringing cars back from the dead because of maintenance costs? Seems like you could find a S4 B6/7 with timing guide problems and fix it to have another bargain German super sedan. I am sure there are several other great cars in the same category.

I think it’s time to get a dyno run. How did you like Performance Solutions? I went to a place and didn’t have a good feeling. They did 1 pull and he mentioned I was running lean at 12.1, that’s wrong, it’s rich. He didn’t want to do another. The results were 233 hp and 414 torque at 2800 rpm. Looking for another place to try. Do you know another place closer to the northside?

hey man I just bought a set of 8 piston calipers off an 03 sl55 and I wanted to put them on my 03 clk55. I was wondering if they'd fit since the clk has 4 in the front and 2 piston in the rear. would I have to do any modifications to the breaking system?

Do an oil change, and get new spark plugs it will probably see more horsepower, also xado engine revitalizant looks promising wonder if that would bring more power back, I've tried it on all my cars but never got chance to see if it works on the dyno.

I had to disconnect the abs pump so traction control wouldn't kick in so I lost my speedo. I came back on after I got off the dyno and plugged it back in.

My 99 E320 still picks them up and puts it down!! It's still a 157mph automobile @ 198,000!! I guess the previous 1 owner doing all service @ MB helped too.

Would you do a pre purchase vehicle inspection on an e55? The car is located at icars in Chicago which I know you’ve worked with before. It’s a 41k mile e55 with some mods. I’d like to know about the quality of the mods. Let me know if that would be something you’d be interested in doing. Could be some good content and end up in a sale for icars.

I would suggest that you do your best to set it up for the 24 hours of Lemon and see how well it will do. As for the bodywork, put POR 15 all over the underside of the car and put an inexpensive paint job on it at home in the shop....I dare you to see if you can keep it under $500. Since it really is a decent car in many ways, use your great skill and creativity as an example for the rest of us.... Thanks for the great info on this fun project!

I had one of those as a company car in 1999 V reg in silver.....306hp...0 to 60 in 5.7 and 0 to 100mph in 14.4...fast car for its day but not as quick as an E36 M3...I lost to several over the 18 months I had the C43 and it was lucky we had company fuel cards!

The intake manifold is clogged from egr and cvs. Clean the intake manifold, fix inner flaps, and you’ll gain a lot back. Forget spark plugs, they are not going to give you anything if there is no misfires clocked.

Would you be scared of buying a 100k+ mileage e55? I cannot find one for a good price with less than 100k for the life of me. I’ve also been considering a c55 or s55.

Personally no, but I'm a former Mercedes Tech. But in general if you want an inexpensive German performance sedan, the E55 is one of the best. Sure, parts can be kind of expensive but overall they are great cars. You need to get a pre purchase inspection and keep searching. Check out my first video on my 03 E55 that I bought for $9,000 with 104,000 miles. Alex

FYI the c43 and the 55 share the same ecu you can buy a c43 for cheap and a cheap N/A 55 engine and drop it in....very popular swap.

Whats up with the power and torque curves on the graph they look low then there's what looks like a huge jump about a third of the way up the rev range? You can see it at 5:05 the blue line first run the second run is better but there's still a prominent jump 100bhp couple hundred rpm then 175bhp be one hell of a kick on the road if that could really happen. It is not a decent looking graph I was taught you want a nice smooth graph looks like a fuelling problem but then I'm only guessing as I'm sitting here at home with nothing better to do than make comments, but the engine note seemed nice and good. Bruum Bruuum

No doubt the result is impressive, especially judging by the state of the poor car. But let's not forget the exhaust is almost only a straight pipe, so some hp are gained there. Even so, it's a testimony to how strong these things are. Guessing my cherished, 63k mile CL 55 K is barely run-in :)

I hate to say it but there isn't much for performance with that engine. It wasn't really designed for horsepower and there is no aftermarket support for the 272 V6. You can do exhaust, maybe find someone that can tune it but it won't do much. Keep it as a really nice daily driver and get an AMG car. Alex

That Performance Solutions pre-purchase inspection is actually really pricey - you can almost buy a Mercedes AMG for that kind of money!

Not with a full computer scan and a professional detail shop with tons of paint and body work experience. Its not even close.I paid around $125 at the dealer and they just put it up in the air look over things they can sell you and they are done in 20 minutes. This is a very complete inspection. Panel gaps, paint work, computer scan complete under body, engine, suspension, test drive etc. Alex
