Thanks for making this video! I always give them an extra $5 bill and tell them its a gift, not a tip, so don't report it to anyone. My drivers have always been appreciative, but I was curious if that was enough. It blows my mind that only 1% of riders always tip.. That is horrible,
Thank you for this helpful explanation. I always tip at least $3, i would even tip more, but sometimes try to spread out my budget. I’m find it insane that people wouldn’t tip even a dollar! That is crazy to me.. if I can’t afford to tip then that to me means I can’t afford to be taking a ride share and opt for public transit instead.
I got a ride one time it was $46 dollars for my ride and the driver asked me how much did I pay I told him but the whe ride he complained to me about tips it made me uncomfortable but I always tip but it sucks to have to listen to someone complaining about the job they chose.
I can totally understand your point. It's not that they chose a low paying profession. It's that the company is constantly lowering wages and doing a lot of things behind the scenes that hurt driver pay. Some drivers have purchased or leased cars and cannot just simply quit.
Why tip if they already getting paid What if all u have is 20 and ride is 20? I'm good either u don't like your job or u don't drive that's between them and uber
There's something called "Tipping Fatigue" and it's a real thing. Even at some restaurants, they're including the tip to the Bill bc people are burnt out on tipping. Bc of the economy among other things.
I worked at a restaurant for about five years (roughly 2011-2016). The last year I was there, they left it up to us if we wanted to include the tip or not. Honestly, after my first year, you could really tell the people who tip and don't. If I got the feeling they weren't going to tip, I would add the gratuity. I I felt they would tip, or they were "regulars" I would let them know that I didn't add the tip in hopes they would tip accordingly. Sometimes I got burnt, but most of the time it worked in my favor. Take care
$1 from every trip would be a cut. A huge cut. I suppose this is probably highly dependent on a lot of factors. Market, which tiers you drive (hint: upgrade out of X), where & when you drive, etc.
@@Thehandsomeliberal Even within a market. What, when & where you drive matters. A lot. Weekday day driving X is going to be the absolute worst as far as tip potential goes. Friday & Saturday nights driving XL (or higher tiers) riders are far more generous when it comes to tips. Yeah, that means dealing with the drunk bar crowd. I drive where/when they money is. I can deal with drunk people. That's not a problem for me, but I don't blame any drivers who don't want to deal with them. Also, night driving and very early AM driving, there is no traffic. Time spent stuck in traffic and at red lights massively impacts your hourly $$$.
But why work for a company whose business model literally advocates for no tips. With excessive tipping being so rampant these days, does it make more sense to go after riders for increased wages or the CEO of Lyft/Uber And if/when pay ever increases for drivers will you also advocate for tipping to go away to ease burden on riders?
No one tips bud, I do 80 rides in a week & no tips. People these days are cheap, it's not like the 1990's. In fact when my car broke & needed a $370 brake job, my parents had to help me to pay for it. The job is basically a scam, Uber don't pay enough even for your car repairs. Enjoy the Scam!😊
Your channel is very good. You once did a RU-vid video on the topic of Uber/Lyft medical transport. Where drivers were getting these types of rides and not being prepared or trained on how to deal with it. Possible Liabilities were also discussed. It was a very well-presented video. I wish I had saved it. I want to share it with several drivers but I am unable to locate it. Can you help me find that video you posted on your channel? Thanks!
@@Thehandsomeliberal Thanks for the update. More drivers need to understand and know about this stuff. You tell it like it is. Keeping it real! No sugar coating! Keep them post coming! Good Job!
During our severe winter storm in Tahoe I require pax to Venmo me a tip before leaving. I just let them know before even packing up the car for an airport ride the tip pays me up to what I used to earn. Short trips I don't but when driving 50 miles on dangerous freeways I require around $30 upfront to make up that difference to pre upfront pricing.
It’s either they want to tip or not! A super nice car may change their mind to tip or may be a great conversation, but overall I don’t see a lot of tips recently. People are already paying too much for the fare and I don’t blame them if they don’t tip!
I agree any tip does make me feel great. But be4 I say anything to anyone I always let them know how much I lost. Which is $1.40 per mile to the pick up. And that's just gas and time. I just started showing passengers a $5 or sometimes $10 bill. And saying it's yours if you can look at your charges and tell me what your pick up cost is. They either say I thought it was included, or they look at the app. And of course no one can find it. That's when I say it was a trick question. And I let them know what it actually cost me to pick them up. I also give them advice on how to beat the algorithm to get cheaper fares and let them know that drivers hate when ride share companies over charge for rides. Cause then it gives passengers no wiggle room to tip. People appreciate that. And we end up in a whole conversation about us all being ripped off
@@jonnyboylive lmao. Its not a job. Its a business as an independent contractor. If my cost is to high to pick you up. And your not willing to cover that cost. Then You can respectful cancel the ride for free and request another driver. If my cost is 1.40 per mile. And i drive 100 miles and only make $60 then why would their even be any ubers or lyfts? No profit then no drivers. Theirs a hugh decline in drivers because of the lack of tips which equal profitability. We cant depend on people to tip when they agree to over pay a app for a service that company doesn't even provide.
Look at any of my videos. You should quickly realize, i answer A LOT of questions in the comment section. So let me ask you this. Based on the number of questions i answer and the whopping amount of comments i get, do you think there is even a remote possibility that maybe i didn't see your question? Is that even slightly possible in your opinion? By the way, i appreciate the support.
Have you ever had passengers asking to do vape in your car I been getting that question alot now especially from female I don't like that question are you crazy you can't vape on a plane not on a public bus not on the train please don't aske that question tell Uber to sen that message to there passengers
I think maybe once or twice. I usually respong with, "that means you're tipping right?" I am not a fan of any smoke in my ride. Fortunately, I almost never get this. Just tell them you're allergic to the smoke. That should work
I haven’t watched this video you but I simply cannot take tipping advice seriously from a black person I’m a server and they are notoriously known for not tipping complaining the most and making your job harder.
Tipping IS optional. But a lot of passengers have expectations too. Such as a quick stop at a gas station. Help carrying bags to the house or groceries. Our assistance is optional too!
@@ThehandsomeliberalYou are right , that’s why I don’t do any extra for riders . I don’t accept multi stops and cancel as soon as a rider add another stop . There is no exception
I never miss your videos! I've done 9300 Uber rides and just starting doing Lyft (300+ rides). I get tipped 75% of the time! I drive an XL and I try to give my riders a memorable experience whether it's a 5 minute ride or if it's a 65 minute ride....it's about SERVICE, CLEANLINESS of the car, GREETING each passenger as they enter my car and it's about creating an ambiance that excites a 5 year old and a 95 year old, whether it's a Monday or a Saturday. I definitely think that working nights help but I truly put a lot of effort into doing what I do and standing out from a normal ride! People may think I'm exaggerating but I'm not. I tend to get a lot of cash tips ($10 & $20 bills).....
@@StevenGrant_Photographer maybe, I don't know because I only do XL rides. One of the few times I did an X ride, I was carjacked and stabbed 4 times. Buy a 10 yr old Caravan and start doing XL...you'll notice the difference!
@@Thehandsomeliberal couldn’t agree more. More smoke and mirrors… I have 13 rides on Saturday. Not ONE person tipped. I know you’re all to familiar with this. Uber should focus on a campaign to raise awareness to riders to TIP US!!! Why tip your waiter for bringing a burger 20 feet from the kitchen. And give me Notta for taking your ass in MY vehicle from point A to point B…. So damn ridiculous. Regardless if it started off as a “cashless app” people are the ones in our vehicles. They have zero respect for our lives. Sick of being Ubers servant…
Just finished my first 40 hours driving for Uber. I have 101 trips. I’ve made $100 in tips on Uber app and about $80 in cash tips. I am very attentive to customers and make good conversation. Tonight I got a $20 cash tip for a 2 mile ride. Most my rides only pay $4-$6 without tips. I’m estimating about 35-40% of people have been tipping me and I know that I am well above average with customer service. Judging on how I’ve felt when I’ve rode in Ubers in the past. It’s always awkward and silent. I make it fun and make sure the customer is warm or cold if they want.
I saw in comments that I can tip cash. I get medical rides thru my insurance using uber. Since the insurance is paying for the ride and since I now know the driver is not getting a tip I will try to leave a cash tip. Is there a way I can leave an online tip if I am not paying for ride? I seldom have cash.
4 rides $17 in tips today treat rideshare like its your business take care of the rider keep your vehicle clean and they tip ive done trips where the tip was greater than the fare paid to me
Not Realistic. You earned $17 in tips from 4 rides due to sheer luck. That's an average $4.25 in tips PER RIDE. Keeping a clean car and taking care of passengers is not going to result in a $4.25 tipping average 99.9999% of the time. You just got lucky.
i find that when i take the $2.94 rides I get the best tips because people are very appreciative of taking them from WM to their house or things like that. Also I do not understand why drivers do not get out of their cars to help the riders with suitcases or bags that increases tips exponentially. just my experience.
@@williamerazo3921 no, that isn’t true. The pay for any given trip is determined by a number of factors including demand & supply, trip time, trip distance, and ride type.
THANKS FOR SHARING ANOTHER GREAT VIDEO YOU ARE RIGHT ONE DOLLAR WOULD REALLY REALLY HELP SOME PEOPLE JUST ARE CHEAP THEY DON’T KNOW IT WILL COME BACK TO THEM ONE DOLLAR WILL NOT HURT
