I love how inspiring these videos are. So thank you and to those who put their stuff on this channel. It can’t be easy for some people to put their stuff out there for the world to see. Since everyone is critical of their own work and sees things they would like to change. It’s inspiring to see these labours of love. Unfortunately for me, it has been a dream for a few years. Me and my partner got our first house, but having had a second child a few months ago and the UK’s crippling cost of living. It will still be a bit of a pipe dream for a while. I still like to watch these and get ideas and I’ve already got a list of beginner things, like starting with a BenQ W2700 projector and a few Monitor Audio in wall speakers. I still need to join discord. Thanks again. 😊
Buy a 4k player and discs. I find the audio is so much better from a disc compared to streaming services, even if the stream is Atmos. I may not be correct but I believe the difference is between a compressed audio track and a full uncompressed audio track, much like audio from a Bluray compared to 4k. I have Ready Player One on both formats, the 4k disk is astoundingly better in it's audio. Atmos placement and separation is noticeable. Get a player.
Great thoughts about budgeting. I think this is a hobby of very diminishing returns after a certain point. The Epson LS1200 gives a great image for a great price, and in many respects it's hard to go much above that (although I did buy a JVC NP5 for the black levels, the NZ7 was not worth it for me). Processors I think are another great place to save, a Denon x3800H can do 7.4.4 and now will soon even have Dirac. That makes the Anthem cost less worthwhile. Like in my other comment, I really do think the screen is your audio problem. Do some research on that, look at Gene's videos on testing his SI screen. It was ballsy taking a loan out on this. I just can't fathom taking a loan out for my hobby but I know a lot of people do so not busting your chops there. I love your honesty and openness watching this video and I think the fact that you are new to the hobby actually ADDS to the value of the video because you have that fresh perspective and haven't been tainted by years of nerding out on forums.
Brian, your room inspired me to start my 'Fav Home Theatre' playlist! The practical and mid-century simplicity aesthetic, attention to detail and how you encompass your desires in entertainment (not just is what I appreciate most about your room. "The screen will be the hero" is a phrase I will borrow moving forward. I used to collect LOTS of memorabilia. My life-long passion for cinema and audio/visual entertainment took a back seat. But I've been working on my mental game which turned things around for my whole life and interests, including my passion for the theatre! I've made a complete change and have a very minimal aesthetic with textures, colour and comfort. Watching your room on Tony's channel continues to inspire my goals for creating a sleek, comfortable home theatre. Thanks for coming back and explaining in fuller detail what we're wondering about your room! Side question: what's the drink you're enjoying in this video?
This was a great format Tony, really enjoyed hearing him answer your questions. I’m building a theater and I’ve learned so much from your channel. Thank you!
awesome q&A you may have already tried this but before getting amps try either a rip or a 4k blueray. I think your hear your system come alive if all your doing is streaming. More highs and lows
I have to agree, getting an audiocom Zappiti and using 1:1 rips with MakeMKV, easily got another 20% out of my picture but even more with my sound. Even surpassing my Oppo 203. It unlocked my systems potential …..
4k UHD is the way to go. In the last past year, I've bought around 75 4k movies 🎬. Streaming is convenient, but physical media gives you the best experience, especially for sound effects.
I think the interesting part about Brian's approach is that he seems like a design guy, not an AV guy. So he started with an aesthetic that most home theater hobbiest want to end at, but concern themselves with last. Really great job on this theater.
Loved the video Tony/Brian, a lot of this experience will ring true to many of us that went through the same process. Surprised yours was about the same as mine Brian, in the $60k range although you spent quite a bit more to make it that much more beautiful than mine! Your DIY skills are also far superior to what I was able to pull off, still one of my favorites. :)
@@BuildMontage lol, its a long process for sure. I would love to share photos when its done. All i have is construction photos currently. Appreciate you, audio advice, youthman, and many others who have inspired it, and all the technical videos. Keep them coming!
I had a 5.1 "Home Theater" but during covid i decided to do a real "Home Theater " so the first thing I bought was 4 McIntosh amplifier first was the 611 for the center channel then the 462 for the towers then 2 more for the 4 ceiling speakers and the back and sides. The SVS PB16 Ultra. After that I bought the Sony projector added some more speakers. Next get better speakers and all the chairs and decorations.
great video i really like what brian did with his ht room ..but one thing is for sure it is never done..where did you get your av rack ,,?...what a great job looks amazing...thanks for sharing .....
Great video! Very informative and a BEAUTIFUL result! I went to the posted cost breakdown, thank you for sharing! It's really helpful to be able to have some street pricing to contrast what you're seeing on the market. I am curious, the Valencia seating, came in at $3,500 for 6 chairs? Everything I've seen from Valencia is about $1,100 and up per chair? The two cuddle chairs alone I bought were nearly $5000 for both including ottoman and accessories.
I had the same question -- after looking more closely, his expense doc includes two separate line items for Valencia: the first at $3,500; and the second at $3,625. Bringing the total to $7,125 (which makes more sense)
It was very good review you have cover Brian cinema room it was very good .Brian cinema room i love is room and is rack I like the where he did it looks great. Thank you showing Brian room .
Love your theater! I am in design phase of building my theater. I will have a room size very similar to yours at 13x18. It'd be extremely helpful if you could share some dimensions. Whats the distance from screen to the front of first row? Distance between rows? Are you happy with distance of front row to screen? Etc. Thanks!
Awesome video, awesome to learn about your theatre brian! I just have to point out though, you mentioned your theatre being “tinny” sounding. That unfortunately may be a sign you don’t like the personality of bowers speakers. So cool to hear others input on their own theatre too even though to most this would be end game!
Always plan for the future on these builds. Even if you had added a slightly larger rack then you’d at least have some extra space for situations like this. Beautiful room though from what I’m seeing here. I don’t believe I’ve the tour video yet.
How can I get that Light Up BM Sign that I see You have? My name is Bruce Marmelstein so I would Really like to have one of those!!! Yes I know it stands for Build Montage but I Really Like It.
Sure, that's my logo but happy for you to have it. I had it made for me by Sketch & Etch - I actually need to finish the unboxing video of it for them - I've been terribly tardy and getting it done.
I love you room, But if your home theater expert is telling you " You need to buy an Amp " He isn't that great. That MRX 1140 is more then enough power to run your speakers. ( unless you want to add more channels, if you do that, buying a cheap power amp will give you that without breaking the bank ). Great room as always :D
What a fun video! I was planning to watch this as I was working at my home office today and found myself not working and watching the video instead 😃 The interview format is fun and I hope to see more of them on the channel. Brian's theater is one of the nicest out there that I've seen on RU-vid. It just looks so elegant and is put together so well. My hats is off to him his design and choices. Finding the level of "bang for the buck" is tricky on all of the purchases - is the extra money really worth it and will I be able to tell a true difference? I think seating is a good one to spend money on for sure. Valencia makes awesome stuff!
Fantastic! If this has been asked before I apologize, but what is the viewing distance from the front row to the 130 inch screen? I'm building a theatre in the next few months and my dimensions are not too far off... 4x6.5x3 but using a 150 inch screen with the 715es projector. Was going to do just one row, but this has me rethinking. Thank you!
Right around 9'-10' depending if your seat is reclined. Personally, it's about as close as I'd go with that screen size as you start to make out individual pixels which can affect the viewing experience.
Great looking room. But don’t regret the projector. That cheap projector you think looks ‘good enough’? Those will show their weakness sooner or later. Sony or JVC.
Wow, just north of 60k? That does not seem too bad. 18k for the audio equipment alone seems very cheap compaired to todays prices. The receiver alone lists for 4.2k today....
Watching this on my way home from securing my 138 inch screen. Needed to hear some of this, especially “I could have gone bigger”. Haha I’ve already hit the limit. Buy once cry once.
I hope he reads this. The boxy sound is probably your screen. Screen Innovations was tested by Audioholics and has awful acoustic transparency. Switch to a SeymourAV UF screen. Do that before buying any amps. There is your opportunity to go bigger plus fix the sound issue.
@@brianckaufman Anytime man. You have a great room, I just don't think buying an amp would be a great use of money. The SeymourAV screens aren't too expensive, a UF screen is like 2 grand for 150" with the 3" frame. If you want to stick with the thinner frame then it's a bit more. That's cheaper than an amp and my hunch is it would make a bigger difference in the sound.
Why would we not believe the costs? lol! Of course only the rich people with too much money, not knowing what to do with it will spend this much to show off on youtube. A great theater doesn't have to cost this much, you can get your own theater for way much cheaper but if you going to show off on youtube and you got way too much money then yeah you can easily do this. lol! You all have a nice day!
My comment will likely get some hate, but I honestly don't think Bowers and Wilkins speakers match well with Anthem. In my opinion they both have a slightly forward sound which when paired together is a bit too much of a good thing. I believe something like the new Marantz Cinema 40 receiver (due for release early next year) would be more than capable for your current set up and would be a much better sonic match. Marantz typically leans towards a warmer overall presentation which works far better with B&W in my opinion.
