Here's an example of how much to fly to Bangkok, Thailand. I recorded this on July 18, 2024. Here are some examples flying in a few weeks from Los Angeles, London and Sydney to Bangkok, Thailand. You can do the same search using Google Flights.
Here's a few links for my favorite credit cards. I try to check the links often, but let me know if there is a problem. If they change the offer on the card, I may need to update the link. Full disclosure, I get a few airline miles for referring a new customer. You should get the same public offer at no additional cost. Thank you very much.

There's PAL flights that go directly from BKK to YVR for less than $500 CAD that don't show up on Skyscanner but show up when Thai locals search on their phones, the cheapest one-way flights when searching from inside Canada are $750 CAD in comparison (both directions), and they are usually Korean Air or Cathay Pacific and stop in Hong Kong so there's different price and flight information in different markets. I would really love someone on RU-vid to check out the prices at an in-person travel agent in Thailand since it's double the price here in Canada with a bunch of stops usually.
@EagerExpat
@EagerExpat Месяц назад
Philippine Airlines (PAL) or Air Canada? The BKK to YVR on Air Canada route was announced and then switched to seasonal only. It's just around the holidays and high season. Plus I think they changed it to three days a week. I'm not sure of the cost, but my Canadian buddy didn't take it. He said it was twice the price of having a layover. He was going to Toronto anyhow. I'm not sure about different prices at a travel agent. The price is controlled by the airline. It is what it is. Now if you search the same BKK to YVR for 10 hours in a row, they do use cookies. They might tweak the "flight choices" and prices to that customer. Just clear the cookies or go incognito browser

The reason why at 21:22 Qantas is using Finnair is not because it’s a Fifth Freedom flight, but it’s because Qantas has negotiated extra planes between Sydney-Singapore & Sydney-Bangkok because of the unprecedented demand between these two countries, and Finnair is experiencing a downturn in flights between Helsinki-Bangkok &some other Asian destinations , due to the closed Russian airspace, making their flights more expensive.Finnair used to boast as having the quickest flights between Europe & SIN/BKK of any European carrier , but not anymore.😊

I’ve been sitting here for the last 3 hours looking for one way flight options from DFW to BKK… I’ve enrolled in Americans frequent flyer program, bought the AAdvantage credit cards you suggested to quickly bank 110,000 miles (GREAT advice)… My problem with booking through American Airlines and having to use JAL is that its impossible for me to pick and pay for exit row seats or other premium type seats in advance… I mentioned this to you in a previous comment and tried your advice of calling JAL to see if I could preselect my seats and they said I would have to wait and do it at the check in counter… I know its not a big deal to most people but I’m 6’3” 200 pounds and have had nightmare 16 hour flights stuck in a middle seat and just can’t take a chance on that happening ever again… I’m considering booking directly with JAL (they partner with AA) so I can preselect my seats ahead of time… Only issue is that a one way ticket is around $1700… OR… 🤔 I may go ahead and use 70K of my AA miles and go Premium economy (No middle seats in this section)… Either way I’m not stressing over it… Thanks for the good flight info. 👍🏻 🙏🏻

I've used AA Miles (and Alaska) two dozen times booking JAL flights. You need to create a JAL account. Once you get a ticket at AA, you go to JAL and pick a seat. You will see the AA locater and JAL locater on the booking. It's not the same. JAL can care less about AA's number. I have no idea if you can get an economy award and then pay to upgrade to an exit row. I only used miles for a business seat. But getting a center section seat on the aisle would be a 100% option. Once I secured that, then call and ask how much more for an exit row. Call Japan. You asked them before you had a ticket. So they just passed the buck. But, at least you won't have to worry about a middle seat. Don't fly Fri or Sat with all the business people. Don't fly back Sat or Sun. These are full planes. You might get a row to yourself if you fly on off times. All airlines have the section, maybe row 15 to 25 that cost more than row the free row 26. Row 26 to the back is jammed full. I had a buddy pay $55 for Hong Kong to Seattle in row 17. They blocked off the other two seats. Poor mans first class is nice. You have enough miles to fly one-way in business class. I think it's 90k for a saver award. Not easy to find, but worth the hunt. The other option is to buy AA Miles. $29 for 1000. Top off your 110,000 for a round trip in premium economy. I'm not sure what it cost. Let's guess 150,000 rt in PE. 40k more miles would cost $1160. A rt in PE might be worth $3000 plus. So that may be a good option. Go back and watch my video on searching one-leg at a time for award space. You can search DFW to BKK. You will have zero results. Search LAX to Tokyo. Then add in DFW to LAX. You might get coach on that leg, but an aisle seat is easy to get. It's the 11 hours across the ocean that's important. Same with the 6 hours Tokyo to BKK. Coach might be fine. If you search DFW to BKK, you are looking for 3 planes that have Premium Economy. The flight from DFW to LAX doesn't even have premium economy. So guess what the search result will be? You got this. Good luck.

I have experimented with the date grid on google flights for years. It still comes down to what airline you prefer, what city you want to transits through and how deep your pockets are. I have flown business class on Qatar, Emirates and JAL from Boston and Finnair from NY. I used to be able to get round trips for 4-4500, for me that was worth it with lie flat seats and the lounges. Prices are up the last year, the cost of getting there business class is steep. I'm not sure I could enjoy any part of economy but may consider it next trp.
@EagerExpat
@EagerExpat Месяц назад
Yes I've did business or first class maybe 20 times. Of course, I never paid. I love my airline miles. I've did every airline in both directions. From California, nothing compares to Tokyo. Nice easy 10.5 hours, then 6.5 hours to BKK. Plus a 1 hour connection. This always works for me. But, if I can't get Tokyo for free, I'll take what I can get. Except China. I wouldn't waste points on Air China, etc.. Really old, dirty planes. I'd rather go coach on ANA or JAL.

@paulsz6194
@paulsz6194 Месяц назад
Sydney/ Melbourne to Bangkok flights are ideally bought 6-8 weeks in advance for the best chance of getting a more competitive flight Singapore Airlines is actually increasing flights between SIN-SYD, so flights with them should be a little cheaper, and Singapore Airlines have about 5 flights daily between SIN-BKK ( more if you include Scoot airlines, their low cost carrier). Not to mention flights to Phuket from SIN . Not to Mention, how great Singapore Changi Airport is for stop overs👍🏽 . Flights get more expensive from September, is because school holidays in Australia, and the fact that wet season is ending in Thailand.
@EagerExpat
@EagerExpat Месяц назад
Yes, the school holidays have always been a key factor. I showed some cheap fares about 7 days out. Same price at 6-8 weeks out. So it's not impossible to find a last minute deal. You just need to be flexible. Everybody wants to fly Friday evening and return Sunday morning. I fly Tuesday. Of course I fly in business for free, so Tuesday is fine.

This was back in April. TPA-LAX (AA) $130. LAX-HKG-BKK (RT $979) LAX-TPA $139 (Delta). Good example of smaller cities getting you to international hubs as a cheaper option.
@EagerExpat
@EagerExpat Месяц назад
That's the correct way to do it. You paid $269rt TPA/LAX. Or you can book TPA/BKK and spend $1269 extra. The airlines love people that do that. That extra $1000 can pay for some nice hotel rooms.
@andyharwood5575
@andyharwood5575 Месяц назад
That's great! We (and I, before getting married) 'used' to do that. But, now we fly into Saigon, visit wife's relatives, and always have used the full checked bag allotment. Then we fly on to Bangkok. The domestic-international baggage differences, possible long airport wait - or a night or 2 in a hotel outweigh the cost savings for us. One thing I've noticed is the R/T tix TPA to Saigon is usually $200-400 cheaper than to BKK. Usually the r/t tix bkk-hcmc run around $200. So, if you'd like to spend a bit in Vietnam, that may be a option. Of course don't forget to factor in Vietnam visa costs!

Post covid prices are up c.35-40%. The best MO is to use an aggregator (aka Google Flights) and look for the cheapest dates which is often Tues / Weds in the week and flights through the Scandinavian countries. Something to be aware of, some UK carriers are starting to back off the far east now. Costing too much to fly and the low cost Asian carriers (Eva etal) are thumping them. Virgin announced the termination of their LHR>PVG route a couple days ago. Thats been one of their main easterly routes for many, many years. Fun times ahead I suspect. Once the "special operation" is over... then hopefully some of these routes will become a bit cheaper and demand will come back. Must admit, as someone who flies UK>far east quite a bit that extra 2 hours is a real PITA.
@EagerExpat
@EagerExpat Месяц назад
I wouldn't call EVA a low cost carrier. It was once voted the best airline in the world. Your very lucky to have a non-stop under 1000 pounds on EVA. That same non-stop LAX to BKK might be 2000 pounds. Plus, a stop in Taiwan. But, yes just like everything ese in the world prices have gone up. Jet fuel especially. Hopefully, the powers that be will control the price of fuel soon. That's what controls the ticket price.
@auwz66
@auwz66 Месяц назад
@@EagerExpat Defo a low cost carrier. I am not saying they are bad btw, just "low cost". Eva always rank at the lower end for price. Maybe you think I meant budget airline as in not a full service airline. They are fine if you want to fly on 777 and a low price with reasonable service on board. No issues with them. Coming from the UK via the regional airports to Thailand the best option is Emirates but that stop in DXB is a killer. If you live near LHR then there are many more options for direct like you say Eva is the best for direct LHR > BKK.
@EagerExpat
@EagerExpat Месяц назад
@@auwz66 When you say a low cost carrier in the US, you are talking about Ryan Air or Easy-Jet. I agree EVA has some great fares between London and BKK. Once again, try flying them between California and Taiwan. It can be more expensive than Singapore Airlines. The UAE carriers seem to be high on the list from the UK. Not so in the US. Most people don't want to fly JFK to the UAE. Japan is an hour less and runs like a Swiss watch.

Qantas has leased Finnair planes for a couple of years now, and I recently took a flight with Qantas service but operated by Finnair pilots and Thai hostesses. The experience was less than ideal-the armrests were so small that passengers were practically on top of each other. Despite this, it's worth noting that the food and drink service remained the same as on typical Qantas flights. I'm eagerly awaiting Qantas to resume using their own planes. At the moment, I'd prefer flying Thai Airways or AirAsia instead.

@@davidbuckley7809 No I believe you. I've just never seen it happen before. It would be like Thai Airways leasing a jet from Finn Air. As two dozen Thai jets sit in storage on the sides of the runway. Maybe those are 777/200 and the one they lease is a 777/300. It's all a numbers game. But, I'm sure Finn Air isn't just letting them use the plane without a high rental fee. Then again, maybe Qantas got the plane cheaper than brining another of their planes from storage. Maybe Finn Air was hurting. My ex used to handle the leases for many US airlines. Most airlines in the US anyhow, don't buy, they lease. She worked for Bank of America and would handle the switch from one airline to another when the lease expired. An American 737 might be used 10 years, then it was off to China, Africa, South America, etc.. I did a video on a crashed 727 I found down in Mexico. It started out at Singapore Airlines, moved to a few more airlines, then was a cargo plane. Last, it was a charter jet for Bob Dole running for president. Then the Discovery Channel crashed it into the ground. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uHWfu4YPyyg.html

What was the issue between Thai Airways and the FAA? This October, I will fly to Thailand from Ontario International Airport in California which is only 20 minutes from my house instead of flying out of LAX, over a one-hour drive away.
